Skins is a British teen drama from the creators of the UK television series Shameless, and first aired on E4 on 25th January 2007. Skins is one of the first programmes at the forefront of the network Channel 4's aim to start showing more British content on its channels.
Plot
Skins is focused around the lives of a group of 16-19 year old teenage friends in Bristol. Sunny, optimistic kids who "grab life by the balls and give it a twirl". Kids who party hard, pass exams, have sex, self-harm, manage their parents, interface with their teachers and push boundaries - both home and abroad. The result is intended as a hilarious mixture of sweet, charming and sometimes heartbreaking stories which focus on comic potential as well as proper emotional development.
Characters
- Tony (17) (played by Nicholas Hoult) White heterosexual male. Good at everything he does except being good. Leader of the group.
- Sid (16) (played by Mike Bailey) White heterosexual male. Tony’s best friend, under confident, hopelessly in love with Tony’s girlfriend Michelle.
- Michelle (17) (played by April Pearson) White heterosexual female. Just gorgeous; in line with the requirement for any girlfriend of Tony’s. Not academic but she’s got a native wit. Called 'Nipps' by Tony because of her odd nipples.
- Cassie (17) (played by Hannah Murray) White heterosexual female. Very odd young woman who is bulimic, anorexic and self harms, with zero self-esteem. May also have OCD.
- Chris (18) (played by Joe Dempsie) White heterosexual male. Fearless Boy about town. He’ll smoke/rob/try/shag anything.
- Jal(16) (played by Larissa Wilson) Black female. Jal just doesn’t fit in where she lives. She’s the most talented young classical clarinet player in the country which doesn’t go down well with her. Her house is full of brothers and sisters who need her. She knows her life is about to be sabotaged, but she might just be clever enough to rise above it all.
- Maxxie (17) (played by Mitch Hewer) The gay enigma. Everybody’s and nobody’s friend.
- Anwar (17) (played by Dev Patel) Asian male. Anwar likes Babyshambles, dope, white girls and Pop Idol.
- Kenneth (16) (played by ?) Black heterosexual male. Posh Kenneth offers us a rare mix of upper crust elocution and street bangin' slanguage. What no-one knows, is that the Big K is a big hit with the ladies.
- Abigail (16) (played by Georgina Moffat) White heterosexual female. Posh, pretty and pumped full of prescription medication, Abigail lives in a world of imported carpets, private school and constant therapy. Just think of all the fun Tony can have with her...

Tony is a smart seventeen year old. He undermines his dad on a daily basis and effortlessly covers up for his little sister’s covert delinquency. So smart he believes he can even get his best mate Sid laid, and make a profit - and Abigail’s party seems like the perfect place to do both. Inevitably the dope deal goes wrong, and so does Sid’s quest to lose his virginity; no surprise there. But when the stolen car goes into the river and takes the unpaid-for drugs with it, Tony and his mates are really in trouble.
