The Little Lost Hen is a novel written by Enid Blyton. It is one of the over five hundred award winning books in Singapore and is also part of the "Popular Reward" books.
Plot
The story begins when a boy called Harry finds a hen trying to cross the road as he was walking home from school. A car hoots at it and it ran back to the kerb. Harry shook and shivered when he tried to pick it up but managed to take it home. His mother was out to get a visitor, so, he put the hen in his wheelbarrow in his playroom. But it was out at once and ran about, knocking over his toys. Harry gives the hen some food to calm it down. Then, he hears his mother's voice and fled downstairs to tell her about the little lost hen. But she had a visitor and Harry was not to speak anything except how do you do, unless, he was spoken to. But after a while mother hears the hen and asks Harry. He told mother how he got the hen and what he did to it. The visitor, Miss Brown, says that it is Mrs White's hen because she told her that she her favourite hen that morning. She also said that it laid a big brown egg for Mrs White every day. Harry loved brown eggs, so, he said, " I love brown eggs, they taste much nicer than white ones. I wish I had a hen that laid me brown eggs every day." But mother says, " We haven't room in our garden to keep hens. Miss brown then takes the hen back to Mrs white. Harry, felling lonely without Miss Brown and the hen, decides to play with his toys. When he went into the playroom, he found an egg in his toy fort! He picked it up and showed mother. Then, mother rings up Mrs white. Mrs white said that Harry was to keep it and eat it for breakfast. Harry says, "How kind of the hen to think of me like that!" So Harry had it for breakfast and said that it was the nicest egg he had in his life.
