Nationality

What is the nationality of Cyrus as a surname? Daniel Christensen (talk) 08:57, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest "Cyrus" should be a redirect to Cyrus the Great, with this page as a disambiguation. Move it? PatGallacher (talk) 17:45, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

CyrusCyrus (disambiguation) — This would enable us to treat Cyrus the Great as the primary meaning, he is by some way the best-known Cyrus. PatGallacher (talk) 20:31, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think TJ Spyke may not have fully understood the proposal. I wasn't disputing that there are a number of people who could legitimately be described as Cyrus. I was simply proposing that Cyrus the Great should be treated as the primary meaning. This means that "Cyrus" should redirect to "Cyrus the Great", but this should have a hatnote pointing to "Cyrus (disambiguation)". He was surely the most important Cyrus, as his cognomen suggests, one of the most important figures in ancient history, the founder of the Persian Empire. • Support. Rationale: this page, as it exists today, is already 95% a well-formatted (per WP guideline) disambiguation page. I think retitling the article Cyrus (disambiguation) will, 1), 'make the implicit, explicit', which is a good thing in any case. It will also then, 2), make it possible to have the Cyrus designation go to a particular and most well-known instance of Cyrus if that is what editors decide to do. But no. 2 is a separate event. No. 1 is a worthy clarification of WP in any event. N2e (talk) 11:05, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose there is no supporting evidence that "Cyrus the Great" is primary usage, and I highly doubt that he is primary usage. (In fact, I suspect Miley Cyrus is currently primary usage) 76.66.197.30 (talk) 16:34, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
