Telekinesis

Telekinesis (literally 'distant-movement') is now more often referred to as Psychokinesis (literally 'mind-movement') or PK. It refers to the apparent ability to influence the behavior of matter by mental intention (or possibly some other aspect of mental activity) alone. Parapsychologists usually make a distinction between macroscopic PK (large-scale effects observable by the naked eye or by a single measurement) and microscopic PK (small-scale effects only observable by statistical analysis of multiple measurements). Microscopic PK should not be confused with Microsoft's PR, but in my opinion, neither exists. Numerous studies appear to show a correlation between mental activity and the state of certain physical systems (e.g. electronic noise generators, radioactive decay, biological processes) but the lack of any detailed theory as to a mechanism means that the existence of PK is extremely controversial.

Various mechanisms have been suggested whereby psychokinesis might operate (and likewise telepathy, succesful prayer, and other "intended events"). Mainly these rely on results that are poorly understood and easily confused by most people, such as Bell's inequality, which can be construed as implying action at a distance but does not actually provide a mechanism for transmitting information or affecting positions.
