Hello! My name is Eric and I live in Ayden, North Carolina. I am not related to General Lewis Armistead - nor do I claim to be. I take pride in my heritage and a lot of the articles I create or edit have a greater meaning to me. I do try my best, though, to remain as neutral as possible.
As examples:

  • My third great grandfather, Alva Lawson, as well as numerous collateral kin, served in Company D of the 18th North Carolina Infantry.
  • I had both a third and fourth great grandfather, as well as numerous collateral kin, that served in Company E of the 51st North Carolina Infantry, which fought prominently at Fort Wagner.
  • Arthur Tracy Lee was my first cousin, five times removed. His mother, Catharine Shriner, was my fourth great grand aunt.
  • William Simonton was my fourth great grand uncle.
  • My third great grandfather, Josiah Shriner, was a sergeant in the 131st Pennsylvania Infantry, commanded by Peter H. Allabach. After the 131st was mustered out, he enlisted as a private in the 51st Pennsylvania Infantry in February 1864. During the battle of Spotsylvania Court House, the 51st Pennsylvania was hit by General James Lane's brigade, which included the 18th NC. Corporal Lawson was captured during this battle and was sent to Elmira Prison for almost a year.
  • My sixth great grandfather. Michael Moyer, was a captain of the 6th Battalion, 8th Company, Lancaster County Pennsylvania Militia during the 1777 arrangement.
  • My sixth great grandparents, Stephen Glare and Mary Bencaler, were murdered with an axe by a slave. "It is supposed the girl's reason for committing this horrid deed, was oweing to her master having made a will some time ago, in which he desired this girl to be free after the death of himself and wife." The murderer was hung.
