D'oh!

Welcome

Hello, Schmiteye, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --Viriditas | Talk 03:18, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Camp Lazlo episodes

Aloha. IMO, most notable television series have episode articles, so I don't think there's a need for a merge or deletion, although I'm sure you can find someone who will disagree. What the page(s) do need is categorization. --Viriditas | Talk 10:20, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I neglected to mention that the stub articles in question should be sorted, possibly with {{Tv-episode-stub}} and some other stub. You may want to bookmark Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types for future reference.--Viriditas | Talk 21:19, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Voice actor

Your solution sounds like a good one, however, it will create two external links (the first one being the name of the article) instead of one external and one internal link. This doesn't sound like a problem, and if someone doesn't like it they can easily change it back, and your comment on Template talk:Voice actor provides a record of your decision to make the change which is always a great idea, so it sounds like you're on the right path. As for Wikipedia:Template messages/All, good catch--you're right--there's a lot of templates missing. I've been aware of this for some time, but I haven't done anything about it. It might be best to post a query on Wikipedia talk:Template messages/All. I'm guessing that the article is just too big, discouraging editors from adding to it. --Viriditas | Talk 01:10, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Millbrae Station

Hi - thanks for your message on my talk page. I just happened to notice the Millbrae link on the SFO page and thought, hey, isn't there an article on the actual BART station? So I went looking for it, and it does appear in the article List of Bay Area Rapid Transit stations which is linked to in the "See also" section of the main BART article. (I remembered that from a previous edit.) Sometimes finding things in Wikipedia can be very challenging! :-) Also, I'm from the immediate area (lived in Burlingame, went to high school in Millbrae) and keep track of all the local stuff.

I think Wikipedia style is to wikilink the first mention of anything and then leave it plain elsewhere, but like everything else around here it's not set in stone. Best, --MCB 19:58, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How do I do a subpage?

/Page_2

SF Bay Area categories

At first I thought Category:Milpitas was empty (I was looking at the wrong link), but it's got a bunch of appropriate articles in it, so I guess it's legitimate. Most cities are not subcats, but I guess this is a good case.

As for the Peninsula, I guess it could be a subcat of Category:San Francisco Bay Area which is a subcat of Category:California, but I can't think of a really compelling reason for it; any articles could just be in a city or county category or directly in Category:San Francisco Bay Area... Cheers, MCB 01:54, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Alfréd Haar

Looks like you solved the problem. --Viriditas 08:39, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Posidonius corrections

Hi, Schmiteye, nice to meet you. Thanks for catching and correcting all those misspellings! --Tregonsee 20:59, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for Flatiron Building (San Francisco)

Hello, good work on Flatiron Building (San Francisco), and thanks for the contribution. However, you forgot to add any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. What websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Flatiron Building (San Francisco)? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? Thank you very much. - SimonP 04:33, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Griffith, Indiana article weirdness

Hi, I had a look at the article you mentioned on my talk page, and did some editing. I'm not sure if it was vandalism, per se, but it definitely fell under WP:NPOV. I removed some of the obvious things (like "My great great great Grandparents <did whatever>.."), and added a Template:Npov-section tag in the section, so hopefully someone else who knows more about the area can give a more thorough cleaning. If that someone is you, then by all means, go ahead! Cheers! --PeruvianLlama(spit) 19:15, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User test warnings

I'm not absolutely positive about this, but I'm at least fairly sure that warnings such as {{test}} belong on users' talk pages, not on their main user page. Thanks for your patroling, in any case! :) HorsePunchKid 2005-12-10 04:16:58Z

No problem! I'm not positive about this, but I think that the user doesn't get the handy "new messages" box if the comment isn't on their talk page. My user page was vandalised recently, and I don't recall getting a notice of any kind. (Fortunately some kind editors had fixed it for me anyway!) HorsePunchKid 2005-12-10 04:21:32Z

Northfield, Vermont

That is a pretty clear copyright violation, and I've thus reverted the addition of the material. Good work spotting this. - SimonP 00:59, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

D'oh!! - Thanks for cleaning up after me!

These are from my deleted edits file. All of these are errors on my part made while I was patrolling for vandalism. Because of nice message sent by The HorsePunchKid (whom I have thanked repeatedly) I managed to do only a small amount of damage. A few other people used their valuable time to revert some of my errors and I am grateful to them all, as well.

Alligator Snapping Turtle

Thanks for the fixes on Alligator Snapping Turtle. Apparently I need a new spellchecker. -Dawson 16:29, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dawson, No problemo. I don't write many articles so spell checking is the least I can do. Thanks for noticing. Schmiteye 20:41, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your firendly neighborhood "subst"

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

 :-) --ZsinjTalk 14:10, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely no fixing necessary. I have a bot that goes around and does that for the people that forget. I just saw your name a few times while ZsinjBot was making its rounds and felt like dropping a friendly reminder, like I've had given to me about 3 times, lol. --ZsinjTalk 13:27, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Film wikiproject tag

Unless a criteria was created that I missed, I don't believe the Films Wikiproject tage needs to be added to articles where a film is mentioned in passing, otherwise there are probably thousands of articles where this could be done. If there wasn't already an I Spy film article the I'd agree to put one in with TV show article, but there is. Same goes for Mission Impossible - we don't need a Film tag on the TV series article as there are separate articles on the three films. Cheers. 23skidoo 12:17, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gypsy Moths

Thanks for rewriting the Gypsy Moths article, I was meaning to do it but things just kept getting in the way. I have cleaned up a few remaining minor errors that remained. Best, Tex 01:29, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tex, my pleasure. One of those movies I saw too long ago and should see again. Thanks for making the tweaks. Schmiteye 01:48, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
D'oh! After the rewrite I forgot to run a spell check! Schmiteye 01:58, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mina Crandon

Thanks for correcting my spelling. User:Kazuba 17 Apr 2006

No problem. The spell checker does the hard part. :-) Schmiteye 00:05, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dazed and confused

The disambiguation page was originally at Hayward (disambiguation) and I moved it to Hayward. There is rationale in the guidelines for this, as explained on the talk page of Malplaced disambiguation pages.

Now, about the "hatnote" (For other places with the same name, see Hayward (disambiguation)) at Hayward, California. Firstly, it's not needed and in my opinion (and most people except for a few I think) and it should be removed. Someone found their way to Hayward, California from a direct link or a search or the disambiguation page. If they came from the disambiguation page they can use the "Back" button on their browser, no need for the extraneous hatnote.

Using templates for hatnotes: don't feel you are restricted to those crumby templates. You can simply replace the template with text.--Commander Keane 21:19, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tran Van Chuong

Where you the one who wrote that that Tran Van Chong was ambassoder of the united states. That is wrong.

Nope, it wasn't me. I just corrected the spelling of the word "president" in the Tran Van Chuong article. Schmiteye 03:19, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Charles Dierkop

Thanks for expanding the Charles Dierkop article. I do volunteer work at my alma mater Aquinas High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin with the archives and alumni and I had talked to Charlie once or twice, when he was visiting. There are some interesting items about Charlie in the archives. I started the Dierkop article, before, I registered with Wikipedia. Many thanks-RFD 13:55, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Critical Reading

Hi,

Although I am sure you meant no harm, there was an edit you made that concerned me. The whole paragraph appears to be strong defamation. Just a heads up to read articles critically and to take a look at Wikipedia:Libel. Thanks, GChriss 23:41, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy, just so you know, I merely formatted what was in this article. I didn't add any additional information. I think I did remove one line that seemed out-of-place. Even though I don't particularly care for the topic, I treated it as objectively as I could. Most of my edits are made for spelling, formatting, punctuation, and such. Personally I think the whole article should be deleted. Schmiteye 23:52, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My only point is that we should all make a conscientious effort to remove such things on sight. (Please see a related discussion.) Thanks again, GChriss 00:17, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent point, but frankly I DO NOT read every article that I edit. That is, the level of editing that I do is simply mechanical. I see the need for spacing and I put in spacing. I see a misspelled word and I correct it (within a sentence's context). I do not feel qualified to pass judgement on the content of much of what I edit. The procedures for deletion, copyright protection, blah-blah-blah is stuff I leave for people who are worried about those sort of thing. I know my place in the Wiki-world. I have no desire to be part of any edit war or huge philosophical discussions about how articles should be written or what they should contain. I do some mindless editing that the previous contributors missed. The one thing I noticed is that whenever I touch an article, someone is VERY LIKELY to take a look at it. That is, there are a LOT of people paying attention to "RECENT CHANGES" watching for vandalism and such. I figure if someone objects to the actual content, then it will be dealt with at that time. I often find things that needed to be dealt with long ago. Apparently you stumbled across my edit after three hours. Hurray for the good guys? Schmiteye 00:49, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As long as I am ranting, how much "critical reading" do I put in when it is loaded with inane information on anime or sleazy X-rated garbage that is created every day? Where does the line get drawn? When do we censor articles? Only when it involves libel? How many one-song bands, incidentally are loaded with grammatical, spelling and standardization errors, should I simply delete as unimportant? You don't want ME making those calls, I can assure you. Schmiteye 00:49, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am not trying to be critical of your edits, which I think are valuable. But if a person's name is linked to a snuff film, or you come across something highly defamatory without sources, please at least notify another editor to check into it. I felt like I stumbled into a land mine. Thank you, GChriss 02:36, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Sorry for the rant. Schmiteye 02:46, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anarcho-capitalism

I'm looking for users how now something about anarcho-capitalism. Anarcho-capitalism is currently under featured article review. Any help in maintaining featured status would be appreciated. -- Vision Thing -- 21:51, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Schmiteye. Just sayin howdy. Glad you're helping with the assault on that article, too. Shannonduck talk 16:10, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! There were some complaints about lack of copyediting, but I can't see what's wrong, so your input would be really appreciated. -- Vision Thing -- 19:51, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, well from my experience I thought this was a pretty good article. Usually the articles I copyedit are in pretty bad shape and so anything I do is (usually) an improvement. I will read the article again, but I doubt that I can improve it. Schmiteye 05:14, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I really needed an objective view from someone who is not involved in this. Can you post your opinion on FAR? -- Vision Thing -- 18:49, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I would wait until editing slowed a bit, I found a few minor nits, and then it got hammered again. I believe an article has to be relatively stable to be a featured article and so I think it fails that test. I've seen a couple of articles like this that are just way too controversial to reach stability. I'm backing away...slowly. Schmiteye 03:31, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dates on video game pages

Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games says to use the [[year in video gaming|year]] format and I'm nto seeing anything in the MoS against it. Please don't change these. Topical links are much more useful than the general year. Ace of Sevens 14:46, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect bypassation

Hi, I noticed that you made an edit to bypass a redirect at Perl. However, WP:REDIRECT specifically forbids editing solely to avoid redirects - it introduces needsless verbiage at a net heavier load on the servers. Please bear this in mind when you are pondering circumventing redirects. --Sam Pointon 20:44, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
