License tagging for Image:Carola Vasa.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Carola Vasa.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Thank you for uploading Image:1848 Friederike-01.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Butseriouslyfolks 05:33, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Prince_Albert_I_of_Monaco_and_his_wife_Lady_Mary_Victoria_Hamilton_shortly_after_their_wedding.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Prince_Albert_I_of_Monaco_and_his_wife_Lady_Mary_Victoria_Hamilton_shortly_after_their_wedding.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Fair use rationale for Image:Magface.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Magface.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Tony Sidaway 12:43, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:624681565_l.gif

I have tagged Image:624681565_l.gif as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. MER-C 10:18, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:624681565 l.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:624681565 l.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:48, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute noted at WP:ANI

Hi. Charles brought my attention to a section of the administrators' noticeboard regarding some reverting that's been going on with ancestry templates, and I'm addressing both of you here, Charles and Cladeal832. Now, I'm no expert on ancestry, or on nobility and titles, or even on our relevant policies. I do, however, know a bit about how content disputes work out on Wikipedia. I'd like to offer some suggestions.

Once you know that somebody disagrees with your edit, it's important to first stop making the edit. This is true whether or not the other guy stops. There's a way to make an edit stick, but it doesn't involve making the edit over and over again. It involves using the article's talk page. That may seem annoying or unnecessary, but this is how we get disputes sorted out in such a way that they stay sorted out. Otherwise we're reduced to the playground argument: "Is not!", "Is so!", "Is not!", "Is so!", etc. etc. We can do better than that.

Let's look at an article: Sophie of Württemberg. I see there a string of edits such as this and this. It seems that Cladeal832 wants to write, for example, "Sophia Dorothea of Brandenburg-Schwedt," while Charles wants to write "Margravine Sophia Dorothea of Brandenburg-Schwedt". Charles is citing a naming convention: WP:NC(NT). Cladeal832, I'm not sure what reason you're giving for your edits. Now let's look at the talk page: Talk:Sophie of Württemberg. There's nothing there. Why not? That's where disputes get worked out.

Charles, I suggest you go to the talk page, and explain why your edit is supported by our policies and guidelines. Once you've made that explanation, you're in a position to edit without edit-warring. Cladeal832, if you disagree with Charles, then you have to explain on the talk page why you disagree; otherwise, he's the one building consensus and you're not, and that makes his edit more likely to stick, and you more likely to be blocked.

I'm adding the relevant articles to my watchlist, and if I see people editing without first making good-faith contributions to the discussion, then I will enforce discussion with blocks, as appropriate. Remember: the best protection against 3RR blocks is to demonstrate that you prefer talk page discussion to back-and-forth editing, even to the point that you'll leave the article in a version you don't prefer while seeking discussion.

The discussion you want to seek looks like this: "Which names are more consistent with other Wikipedia naming and style conventions?" "Why should or shouldn't we apply particular rules to the situation?" and "What forms are used by the reliable sources upon which the article is based?"

If you two are unable to come to a consensus regarding which names to use, then the solution is not to go back to reverting each other. The next step is to request a third opinion or to file a request for comment on the article. These steps, however, come after you've both tried to use the talk page to resolve the dispute. Once one article is sorted out, the rest should be easy.

Please let me know if I can help with the discussion. I will be keeping an eye on things, and I will use short blocks to discourage reverting if I have to. I'm confident you'll be able to come to some understanding if you give the discussion a chance, and if not, then we'll cross that bridge, too. -GTBacchus(talk) 07:12, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 18:57, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Broken redirect

A tag has been placed on Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page.

If you can fix this redirect to point to an existing Wikipedia page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you also fix the redirect. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Obama edits

Just an FYI on the Obama article, though you've probably gathered this by now, given the contentious nature of the article, it's important that you discuss any vaguely significant changes before making them. Also, if someone reverts your changes, please do not revert them after that. You're talking it out on the talk page now which is good, but the brief spat of edit warring led to the article being fully protected. Hopefully that will be undone, but in the future please use the talk page first. We might well implement a 1RR limit soon. Thanks!--Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 06:52, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HST > Notable?

832, In the heading it says: "Notable roles". The three previous mentions were roles that the play and/or film, Truman was the main subject, taking up the bulk of screen/stage time and lines. These also won critical acclaim. The combination of the amount of script and praise is what made these portrayals of Truman notable. Does your addition really fit: "Notable"? There have been lots of roles with Truman in them:

Flags of Our Fathers (2006) Played by David Patrick Kelly (as President Truman)
Hiroshima (2005) (TV) Played by Kenneth Jay (as Truman)
The Messenger: Based on a True Story (2005) Played by Raymond Starzmann (as President Truman)
Keep the Faith, Baby (2002) (TV) Played by Cedric Smith (as U.S. President Truman)
"Futurama" - Roswell That Ends Well (2001) TV episode, Played by Maurice LaMarche (as President Harry Truman)
"The Korean War" (2001) TV series Played by Harris Shore (as President Harry Truman)
"The Simpsons" - The Trouble with Trillions (1998) TV episode, Played by Dan Castellaneta (as President Truman)
"Dark Skies" - Moving Targets (1996) TV episode, Played by Hansford Rowe (as President Harry Truman)
Truman (1995) (TV) Played by Gary Sinise
Hiroshima (1995) (TV) Played by Kenneth Welsh (as President Harry S Truman)
Brenda Starr (1989) Played by Ed Nelson (as President Harry S. Truman)
Day One (1989) (TV) Played by Richard Dysart (as President Harry S. Truman)
"War and Remembrance" (1988) TV series Played by Richard Dysart (as President Harry S Truman)
J. Edgar Hoover (1987) (TV) Played by Walker Edmiston
Eleanor, First Lady of the World (1982) (TV) Played by Richard McKenzie
Inchon (1981) Played by Ed Flanders (as President Harry S. Truman)
Enola Gay: The Men, the Mission, the Atomic Bomb (1980) (TV) Played by Ed Nelson (as President Harry S Truman)
"Backstairs at the White House" (1979) TV series Played by Harry Morgan (as President Harry S. Truman)
MacArthur (1977) Played by Ed Flanders (as President Harry S. Truman)... aka MacArthur, the Rebel General (UK)
Tail Gunner Joe (1977) (TV) Played by Robert Symonds (as President Harry S. Truman)
Harry S. Truman: Plain Speaking (1976) (TV) Played by Ed Flanders
Truman at Potsdam (1976) (TV) Played by Ed Flanders (as President Harry S Truman)
Collision Course: Truman vs. MacArthur (1976) (TV) Played by E.G. Marshall (as President Harry S Truman)... aka Collision Course (USA: short title)
Give 'em Hell, Harry! (1975) Played by James Whitmore (as Harry S Truman)
The Man from Independence (1974) Played by Robert Vaughn (as Harry S Truman)
The Beginning or the End (1947) Played by Art Baker (as President Harry S. Truman)

But, Give 'em Hell, Harry! and Truman, both on stage and screen where entirely about Truman. In Give 'em Hell (if you have seen it), there is nobody else. It is a one-man play, 100% of the lines are portraying Truman. And Flanders played Truman at least four times, including the bulk of the work being about him in at least two occasions; Harry S. Truman: Plain Speaking and Truman at Potsdam. So, is his charactership in Flags of Our Fathers really "notable"? ~ WikiDon (talk) _Notable?" class="ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink">21:12, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
