R' Aharon Leib [however you spell it]

I see that you have been involved in the repeated movings of Aharon Leib Shteinman. It happens that the most common spelling of his name is Aharon Leib Steinman - you can check Google. I just want to make sure that I'm not the only one for whom this is an obvious decision. Kol tuv, DLandTALK 21:20, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, then - let's try to build consensus. I have posted at Talk:Aharon Leib Shteinman. --DLandTALK 22:16, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

William Cohen

Hi Crazy Russian - how is everything? Could you help resolve a dispute before it goes to arbitration? Back in August I took a photograph of former Secretary of Defense William Cohen. It's a good photograph; he had just written a fiction novel. I also took some photographs of he and his wife Janet Langhart. They liked the photographs so much they wrote to tell me so; Janet Langhart even said she was glad I was able to supply an updated photograph of her husband to replace the goofy Department of Defense photograph found on his page. I still have these e-mails.

BCV, another editor, is insistent that we keep all the Department of Defense photographs on every page of every former Secretary of Defense. His argument is it creates consistency. My argument is that if an editor has a decent updated photograph they are willing to release that an updated photograph should go on an updated encyclopedia page. Another user on August 22nd also kept this change (though he moved the photograph of Cohen and Langhart down to the bottom - with which I agreed).

I've asked for other editors on the page to comment, but to no avail. Cohen is not particularly old; under BCV's reasoning, Wikipedia will forever keep a 1997 photograph up. I don't think it makes a lot of sense, especially since the man is now in a new phase of his life and continues to work.

Can you help to arbitrate this? I'm a bit tired of the revert war. Thanks for any help. --DavidShankBone 22:28, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for weighing in - much appreciated. --DavidShankBone 22:45, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Crz, would you mind reverting this back to the pre-3RR version? It's currently protected on Chussid's version with the link to the personal website. Cheers, SlimVirgin (talk) 22:48, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am not going to do that. You may very well be right, but I am not editing the protected page crz crztalk 23:05, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You protected it. :-) It's quite normal to revert to a pre-3RR version before protecting a page, because otherwise the protection rewards the violator. But it's up to you; I don't want to interfere with your admin decisions. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:13, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It would be tantamount to joining the editwar. Figure it out, ask some nonjews for input on whether the links are up to WP:EL, and then we can all remove it together once it's unprotected. crz crztalk 23:15, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, it's up to you, but it is not tantamount to joining the edit war; it is perfectly normal to revert to a pre-3RR version before protecting. I'm also not sure what your "nonjews" comment means. This has nothing to do with Jews or non-Jews. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:21, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm ... you're suggesting Jewish editors are inherently biased. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:26, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, first, lots of non-Jews hold pre-conceived ideas about Israel too, but more importantly, the dispute was about whether the link is to a reliable website or to a personal website, and being able to judge that has nothing to do with one's views on Israel. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:44, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, just looking for your advice on this (albeit trivial) one. You declined my CSD (I proposed non-notability) and suggested a merge back into the Uni article. Does that preclude me from listing in AfD? The only precedence is this prior AfD for another hall at the same uni. Loughboorough is my alma mater which is why I pay a passing interest. I don't have a vested interest other than these things aren't really notable for their own articles. Thanks for you time. --Steve (Slf67) talk 00:59, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nicole Jordan Article

Being new to Wiki, I failed to Create a Page Name when typing an article about romance author, Nicole Jordan. So I created another page with that name, and copied the article into it. It was deleted. You won't believe this, but I messed up even more. Decided to create another account, calling it Nicole Jordan. As I began to type in the same info that was in the previous article, it went to speedy deletion and is now protected from further recreation. The article lists a short bio, her published novels, and a link to her web site. All I want to do is have the page name reflect her full name so it can be found by anyone searching for Nicole Jordan. How can I fix this mess? Your help will be ever so much appreciated. Thank you. Nicjord 08:14, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sirius Corporation

You have recently redirected the page posted about Sirius Corporation, an open source services company based in the UK, to Sirius Satellite Radio, a US-based internet radio provider.

They are different companies. Please amend your changes.

I believe there is no reason to remove or change this entry - the information provider was *not* commercially-oriented but an attempt to demonstrate Sirius Corporation's open source promotion and advocacy.

Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DogStar5000 (talkcontribs) 15:28, 9 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Sirius Corporation

Thanks for your message. Please tell me how a redirect to Sirius Satellite Radio is valid for a description for a company named Sirius Corporation.

If you don't like the entry then delete it. As it stands its likely to breech the Sirius Corporation trademark.

Also if Sirius Corporation is excluded then please advise on how its style is different to Canonical, the entry upon which it is based? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DogStar5000 (talkcontribs) 15:37, 9 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

My Request for Adminship

Thanks for contributing to my RfA! Thank you for your support in my my RfA, which passed with a tally of 117/0/1. I hope that my conduct as an admin lives up to the somewhat flattering confidence the community has shown in me. Please don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page should you need anything or want to discuss something with me. Oh and I won't take offence at your "accusation" this is a role account, unless by "bunch of geeks" you meant just the one ;)--Nilfanion (talk) 15:46, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

I've considered it from time to time, and been offered the possibility, but save for the occasional time when it would make dealing with a locked stub template or the like easier, I can't say that I'd really want the power, and I can't say that I'm that interested in dealing with the core administrator functions of anti-vandalism, etc. I may someday take up the gauntlet, but not now. Db-bio

  • Hi there, The {{db-bio}} tag on that page created by cloud dreamer, well maybe I was wrong, at first I did not see it's encyclopedic significance but maybe I was a little quick and not giving it full though, and you probably were right. I'd just like to say that I'm sorry and that I do not want this to turn in to an argument as Wikipedia is meant to be a firendly place!
  • I'd also like to thank you for your honesty on my RFA. Even though you did oppose I can fully respect that and totally understand - everyone has the right to their own opinion. I'm going to try again for an RFA in about June/July 2007 when I've got about an extra 8,000 mainspace edits.

Thanks for your honesty! Respectfully... TellyaddictTalk 21:32, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

The Afd2 error

As you've noticed, there's an error on Template:Afd2. Seeing as you seem to be active at the moment, can you fix it for me? (I've placed an editprotected on its talkpage, where I was discussing the new 'view log' feature, and a note on WP:AN, but nothing seems to have happened yet and more borked AfDs are being created.) --ais523 16:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I had something to copy and paste it to on the talk page (I'll repeat it here):
<includeonly>{{subst:</includeonly><includeonly>empty template|1={{error:not substituted|afd2}}}}</includeonly>===[[{{{pg}}}]]===
<includeonly>{{REMOVE THIS TEMPLATE WHEN CLOSING THIS AfD|{{{cat}}}}}</includeonly>

{{{text}}}
--ais523 17:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
'anchorencode' is used to encode special characters as they would appear in the section after a # on a URL; for instance, {{anchorencode:123?.#789}} is 123?.#789. --ais523 17:10, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

My RFA

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. Inheritance Abuse

I'm trying to determine why this article was deleted. (Comments on my talk page were boilerplate, and I can't find any other help.) Inheritance Abuse is not a neologism. It is a part of the growing vernacular for people facing troublesome inheritance issues. It is not otherwise described in Wikipedia. "Inheritance Abuse" is also documented in an upcoming book authored by myself and another author. We also have a Web site (being updated) that discusses the topic. The term "Inheritance Abuse" also received a copyright 2003 in connection with our work. It is of public record. Please note that I made no advertisement for either the book or the Web site in my article. Please help me understand (1) why it was deleted, and (2) how I can improve the content or otherwise change it to restore the article. Thank you. Deletion of Mikkal Morottaja article

Hello -

I'm writing to find out why you deleted the article about Finnish/Sami rapper Mikkal Morottaja on Nov. 16th, 2006. Your cited reason was a7 (lack of notability).

Here are at least two reasons why Morottaja should be considered notable:

(1) According to Wikipedia's official policy, he should be considered notable due to the presence of several independent newspaper articles about him. Most of them, of course, are in Finnish, but here's a smattering:

In English: http://virtual.finland.fi/netcomm/news/showarticle.asp?intNWSAID=55407

In Finnish: http://www.kaltio.fi/index.php?405 - profile http://virtual23.nebula.fi/~rumbafi/arkisto/03_05/Rumba03_05.pdf (BIG file) - another profile http://meteli.net/uutiset/2302 - details of a recent concert tour

That ought to be enough. These articles can also become the citations for much of the text that was presumably posted in the original, deleted article (which I came too late to find).

(2) He also satisfies criterion #6, "Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city." In particular, he's easily the most prominent representative of rap music in the Inari Sami language, and the "local scene" of Ivalo/Inari. In fact, he's the most prominent representative of an entire language, and he might become personally responsible for preventing the Inari Sami language from dying if his revival efforts gather a foothold among the young people of his area.

I'm not logged in, but please forward your response to [email protected] Thank you.

Deletion of "Bridget Taylor"

I started the intitial phase of entering an extremely noteworthy person. Dr. Bridget Taylor and you deleted it citing AT G11. Again, this was the preliminary first step in this entry and maybe if you knew who the subject was you would realize the importance of the entry.

Dr. Bridget Taylor is the founder of The Alpine Learning Group a school for austic children. She is by all accounts, a pioneer in the use of Applied Behavioral Analysis in helping autsitic children. Applied Behavioral Analysis is science adapted from BF Skinner's work. Dr. Taylor has been using this method with much success for over 20 years. She is highly respected in her field, a field that has increasing importance in a world where 1 in 166 children are autistic. The school she co-founded is arguably the best placement for an autistic child in the country, possibly the world. She does not need publicity. The Alpine School has a student body of 23 children and a waiting list of 600. The ratio of teacher to student is 1:1.

I hadn't had the chance to link to her scholarly research projects, which there are many. All are groundbreaking.

Dr. Taylor trains other practioners in the use and application of Applied Behavioral Analysis which is, by the way, the only therapy proven help autistic children to learn. She is by any stretch of the imagination, the most respected doctor in this field. Dr. Taylor is the subject of one of the most famous books on autism "Let Me Hear Your Voice" by Catherine Maurice. As a graduate student, Bridget Taylor used consistent ABA therapy with both the author's autistic children, who are today teenagers "indistinguishable from their peers."

So I object to your classification A7 that this is not a notable person. The beginnings of my article may not have had enough information, but I planned on working on the article each night until I had gathered the wealth of information available.

I further object to your classification G11 that this is promotional spam. This is not a person who needs to promote herself. Her work is for a non-profit organization and she is a tireless, dedicated activist for autistic children.

Dr. Taylor is a notable, accomplished woman. In a field where hope is offered and no results returned, in a world of snake oil salesmen peddling cures for autistic kids, Dr. Taylor stands out as a research practitioner who uses scientific methods and statistics to enable austic children to learn as much as the individual child is capable. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.116.161.83 (talk) 07:11, 13 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Tall Firs page?

Hi, I noticed you nominated the page I created on the band Tall Firs. I'm new to creating articles on Wikipedia, so I went ahead and checked out the links on the deletion header, and I still believe the article is notable for the following reasons:

1. The band has had a record review published in Rolling Stone, the biggest music-based publication in America (the review is published here: http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/album/11429885/review/12665488/tall_firs .) 2. The band's members have played in other noteworthy bands- the drummer, Ryan Sawyer, played in At the Drive In, a huge American band, and has played in groups such as Fiery Furnaces and TV On The Radio, huge indie rock presences in America. 3. The band is on a major American record label, Ecstatic Peace!, the record label of Sonic youth's Thurston Moore, a huge musical presence in American. The label contains other major indie presences in America, such as be your own PET! and Magik Markers. 4. The band is currently on tour with Emily Haines, a major artist both in America and Canada, whose latest self-released reached #28 on the Canadian charts.

I saw Tall Furs play this week, and was blown away by them, so much so that after the show I came to Wikipedia to try and find information on them- however, I found none. Earler today I saw a stub about the band that has since been deleted. On their tour with Emily Haines, they're going to be exposed to thousands of new fans across the country, and hundreds of them are probably going to come here to try to find information about the band, just as I did. The fact they opened for her when her performance was being simulcast on NPR won't help to stifle their popularity.

For these reasons, I'm going to delete the Article for Deletion header. Please respond on my talk page or the Tall Firs talk page if you feel they are still not notable. Thank you!

Nicole Jordan

Hey crz,

Could you please unsalt Nicole Jordan? It was originally created by User:Nicole Jordan and because of the username and some POV with the article, I speedied it assuming that it was an advert. and you (appropriately) salted it after she recreated it. As it happens, the user contacted me on my talk page and explained that she is NOT Nicole Jordan but was confused about the username. I instructed her to change her username (which she has done, she is now User:Anneb) and I also advised her to read WP:NOT and WP:NPOV. My impression is that she is honestly trying to contribute and the article should be unsalted. Further, Nicole Jordan is notable.
