Dallapiccola's Il Prigioniero was indeed first performed on a radio in 1949 (I know this), but it was written as a stage opera (e.g., see the score) and the score was completed by 1948. Could you please then explain why you undid my revisions? And what is actually "a radio opera", a kind of "a radio play"? Hi! You're getting this message because you are or have been a Wikipedia Ambassador. A new term is beginning for the United States and Canada Education Programs, and I wanted to give you an update on some important new information if you're interested in continuing your work this term as a Wikipedia Ambassador.
You may have heard a reference to a transition the education program is going through. This is the last term that the Wikimedia Foundation will directly run the U.S. and Canada programs; beginning in June, a proposed thematic organization is likely to take over organizing the program. You can read more about the proposal here.
Another major change in the program will take effect immediately. Beginning this term, a new MediaWiki education extension will replace all course pages and Ambassador lists. (See Wikipedia:Course pages and Help:Education Program extension for more details.) Included in the extension are online volunteer and campus volunteer user rights, which let you create and edit course pages and sign up as an ambassador for a particular course.
If you would like to continue serving as a Wikipedia Ambassador — even if you do not support a class this term — you must create an ambassador profile. If you're no longer interested in being a Wikipedia Ambassador, you don't need to do anything.
Please do these steps as soon as possible
First, you need the relevant user rights for Online and/or Campus Ambassadors. (If you are an admin, you can grant the rights yourself, for you as well as other ambassadors.) Just post your rights request here, and we'll get you set up as quickly as possible.
Once you've got the ambassador rights, please set up at a Campus and/or Online Ambassador profile. You can do so at:
Going forward, the lists of Ambassadors at Special:CampusAmbassadors and Special:OnlineAmbassadors will be the official roster of who is an active Ambassador. If you would like to be an Ambassador but not ready to serve this term, you can un-check the option in your profile to publicly list it (which will remove your profile from the list).
After that, you can sign on to support courses. The list of courses will be at Special:Courses. (By default, this lists "Current" courses, but you can change the Status filter to "Planned" to see courses for this term that haven't reached their listed start date yet.)
As this is the first term we have used the extension, we know there will be some bugs, and we know the feature set is not as rich as it could be. (A big wave of improvements is already in the pipeline. And if you know MediaWiki and could help with code review, we'd love to have your help!) Please reach out to me (Sage Ross) with any complaints, bug reports, and feature suggestions. The basic features of the extension are documented at Wikipedia:Course pages, and you can see a tutorial for setting up and using them here.
Communication and keeping up to date
In the past, the Education Program has had a pretty fragmented set of communication channels. We're trying to fix that. These are the recommended places to discuss and stay up-to-date on the education program:
The education noticeboard has become the main on-wiki location for discussion of the Education Program. You can post there about broad education program issues as well as issues with individual courses.
The Ambassadors Announce email list is a very low-traffic announcements list of important information all Ambassadors need to be aware of. We encourage all Ambassadors (and other interested Wikipedians) to subscribe to the list; follow the instructions on the link to add your email address.
If you use IRC regularly, or need to try to reach someone immediately, the #wikipedia-en-ambassadorsconnect IRC channel is the place to find me and fellow Ambassadors.
Ambassador training and resources
We now have an online training for Ambassadors, which is intended to be both an orientation about the Wikipedia Ambassador role for newcomers and the manual for how to do the role. (There are parallel trainings for students and for educators as well.)
Please go through the training if you feel like you need a refresher on how a typical class is supposed to go and where the Ambassadors fit in, or if you want to review and help improve it. If there's something you'd like to see added, or other suggestions you have for it, feel free to edit the training and/or leave feedback. A primer on setting up and using course pages is included in the educators' training.
The Resources page of the training is the main place for Ambassador-related resources. If there's something you think is important as a resource that's not on there, please add it.
Finally, whether or not you work with any classes this term, I encourage you to post entries to the Trophy Case whenever you see excellent work from students or if you have great examples from past semesters. And, as always, let students (and other editors!) know when they do things well; a little WikiLove goes a long way!

2011 Census
The Office for National Statistics have now published the detailed information from the 2011 Census for wards and parishes. The data can be searched for on their web site here. Would be good to get the information added to all of the relevant articles but this is a big job. If the article already has the 2001 census figures then it may be worth retaining these, in the text of the article, for comparison purposes.

I know that you compiled a large portion (if not all) of the article about operas performed at Wexford, and so I wonder if you happen to have the programme from the 1988 L'assedio? I've been doing some major expansion on the Wiki article on that opera, and have made mention of the Wexford production.
As you may also know, English Touring Opera is planning to stage it from 2 March into May in ten locations, and I just received the stage director's notes and synopsis (although the latter is online) from the ETO people. James Conway is presenting it in two acts, and there is some historical justification for this, but I wonder if the Wexford production was done in the original three acts and if the notes in your programme indicate anything of interest for inclusion in the article.
I've found that with both my expansions of the Belisario article last autumn (which tied into a concert performance which I heard at the Barbican) and the one on Maria Stuarda which tied into the Met's worldwowide videocast, that there a significant increase in readership as evidenced by the stats on http://stats.grok.se/. In fact, at the Barbican, I noticed at least two people with copies of the article in their hands, and readership of Maria Stuarda had close to 8,000 "hits" on the day of the Met broadcast. Happily, I shall be in England during the last week of April and so shall see L'assedio in Buxton (before going on to Oberto in Milan).

I'm typically here all summer as I do backstage tours regularly throughout the opera season. 2014 promises: (1) a new opera on Sun Yat-sen which was presented in Hong Kong last year, brief details of which can be seen here (to use your system!); (2) (word has it) La favorita. I usually attend the press conference announcement in April (unless it's when I'm in England, or Switzerland, or Italy this Spring!). BTW: seeing your list of countries lived in/spent the night in, I note that you mention Tanzania: I set up African history courses in two Dar es Salaam high schools from Jan 1966 to March 1968, as well as running the Dar Film Society for 18 months of that time. Thanks for your response re: the Wexford production. I do have most of the details you mentioned already in the article, but it looks as though the Opera Rara version is the "standard one". Don't know if there is a critical edition: I'll ask Philip Gossett, whom I can now call a friend after hosting him in my home last summer as Maometto II was being rehearsed here in Santa Fe.
English Touring Opera sent me the the programme notes and synopsis for the upcoming L'assedios, and they are planning two acts with no act 3, no ballet, no King (but move him to act 1), no Queen. Am not sure about the added cabaletta done in Naples, but doubt it will be there since the burghers go off to their deaths....

Interwiki links
There has been a major change this month to the way that interwiki links are handled with the introduction of Wikidata. Wikidata is a central place to record meta-data about an article and the initial phase was rolled out this month to cater for interwiki links. The links in the language area are served from this project and can be edited by use of the "edit links" icon at the bottom of the list. These links in articles are now redundant but if present override the information supplied by wikidata. Check each of the links to ensure that they exist and are correct on wikidata before removing the entry from an article. BOTs are in the process of removing these links from articles but will leave behind missing or conflicting links for someone to investigate and fix appropriately.
Be aware that when moving articles to change the destination for the en interwiki link on wikidata to point to the new article location. The redirect will normally take care of this
but if the original name is reused for a different article then other wikis will be pointing to an incorrect location.
Wikidate also does not handle section links in the interwiki link so these must remain as part of the article code.
Watchlists have been changed to give an extra option to Show/Hide changes to wikidata entries for articles on the watchlist.

Lua
Another change to the software last month sees the introduction of Lua for coding of templates. Those of you who edit templates may come across this with the introduction of the "#invoke" statement. The code is held in the new namespace of Module that was created for this purpose. One of the first places to show the change is the search screen that now has options to search the Module or the associated Module talk namespaces.
The use of Lua is expected to improve the speed of loading of pages with a large number of complex templates. The heavily used complex templates are being targeted for early conversion to use Lua. {{Coord}} and {{cite}} family of templates are among the first to receive attention. If you see any problems when conversion is made then report them to Technical Village Pump or to the talk page of the module involved.

Notifications
By the time you read this the new Notifications tool will be available for use. You will have a new Notifications tab under Preferences to enable the selection of which type of notification you want on web and which you want e-mailing about. The count of those selected for web delivery will be shown between your user page and talk page links at the top of each page. Just click on this number to see the notifications that are applicable to you. One the resulting page there is also a direct link to the new Notifications tab of your preferences.
The main noticeable change will be the disappearance of the big orange bar at the top when you get a new talk page message, it will now be just a discreet change to the notification count.

Hello. After much thorough searching around I've come to the conclusion that the WNO Midsummer Marriage production of 1976 you saw in Leeds was central to its performance history. May I ask you to add some more information from the programme you have of it? I've found the Jenifer and the Sosostris so far, and think it would be good to have the Mark, Bella, King Fisher etc. In fact I think I'll add a column on the cast list for this production. I have a mid-90s reissue of the 1970 recording; in the booklet essay this production is spoken of very warmly - I'm going to add that now, too almost-instinct12:28, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for doing that. You're certainly right that the state I've got that page into right now is a long way short of Best Practice. But these days I appear to be a sluggish editor, and its only through wanting to get the information on display before the Proms performance that has goaded me into doing that little I have! Looking at the cast list and bearing in mind the problems of balance in the RAH I'm not expecting the Proms performance to be ideal, but I shall be very grateful for the opportunity to hear the work in the flesh (In 2005 I was insufficiently ROH-savvy to work out how to attend a performance) I've been listening to the 1970 recording again. The singing of Alberto Remedios and Raimund Herincx is especially striking. By the way the WNO programme claim of being the first production outside London is countered by the ref we have of the German premiere in 1973.
