Philippe Quint
Philippe Quint is a Russian-born American violinist. His debut album, William Schuman’s Violin Concerto received two Grammy Award nominations including Best Soloist - with Orchestra. Quint, an immigrant, left Russia in 1991 to become a U.S. citizen.[1]
On loan though the Stradivari Society, Quint plays the Kiesewetter Stradivarius violin of 1723 owned by philanthropists Clement and Karen Arrison. In April 2008, the violin valued at US$4 million was left by in the back seat of a Newark, New Jersey taxi cab. The Kiesewetter was returned to him the following day by cabdriver, Mohamed Khalil.[2] Quint rewarded Khalil with US$100 and on May 6, 2008 gave him and his fellow cabdrivers a private 30-minute recital in waiting area at Newark Liberty International Airport. Khalil was also presented with a medal by the city of Newark.[3]
