Retro Bowl is based on a retro football game Tecmo Bowl. In the game the player controls the offense while also being the general manager. At the start of the game you are assigned a random team or you can play as a team of your choice. In the game you try to manage your team to the titular Retro Bowl.[3] The game's simple mechanics were praised by players and critics alike.[4]

Spinoff

After the success of Retro Bowl, a spinoff Retro Goal was released in June 2021.[5]

TikTok popularity

In late 2021 Retro Bowl became a sensation on TikTok. It sky rocketed to the number one downloaded app on the Apple app store.[6] In October 2021 #retrobowl had over 82m views on TikTok.
