Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Human3015 (talk | contribs) at 20:43, 8 April 2016 (Requesting semi-protection of T. P. Lahane. (TW)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Getting a lot of IP inserts/vandalism over "Shanta Ronaldo", who seems unlikely to be actually playing for this club. McGeddon (talk) 22:46, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Lectonar (talk) 07:17, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Lectonar: There is no "user" - it's a dozen different IP addresses and SPAs adding Ronaldo to random positions, calling him a paedophile, making cancer jokes, etc. --McGeddon (talk) 08:31, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@McGeddon: You're correct. These IP6's are sometimes difficult to tell apart. Semi-protected for a period of X, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Lectonar (talk) 14:23, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Block evasion by IP

    Temporary semi-protection: Disruptive editing and block evasion by Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Best known for IP. clpo13(talk) 05:19, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

if you want articles to comply with the fundamental policies of Wikipedia, them you should dismiss this frivolous and dishonest request.82.132.217.98 (talk) 05:32, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Do you deny that you're the same person as 82.132.221.143 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and 82.132.224.82 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)? It looks like plain, old-fashioned block evasion to me. clpo13(talk) 05:35, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Fresh a/c continually NNPOV pecking at lede . Alexbrn (talk) 08:16, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Just one new user, so page protection would be a little heavy-handed; please engage her/him by using talk-pages (I know you left the welcome-template); not everybody is used to communication by edit-summaries. Lectonar (talk) 08:22, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Usual Indian film post-release situation. Nairspecht (talk) 08:57, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Requesting indef semi on this page as the Maria Ozawa-related BLPvios continue to persist even after a month since the page was protected. Blake Gripling (talk) 10:57, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Repeated POV edits by IPs (probably all the same editor) not permitted to edit here under WP:ARBPIA3#500/30. RolandR (talk) 11:44, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Vandalism by IPs and new users. 61.3.106.101 (talk) 12:20, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: IP hopping vandal. --OpenFuture (talk) 12:59, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – An IP editor has been persistently adding information presumably based on WP:CRYSTALBALL, certainly not backed by any reliable sources I can find (and I searched!). Editor is not responding to either talk page or reversion comments. We need some way to get his attention. At this point, it seems he is making the edits daily. Tarl.Neustaedter (talk) 13:18, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Same IP editor has been vandalizing WP:AEI page [1]. Editor has also vandalized the project automobile talk page thus a request for protection there. A previous request was made and granted on April 6th. Springee (talk) 13:46, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Multi-day vandalism from several IPs. -- ferret (talk) 13:57, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Repeated addition of unsourced material by IP address; I've tried inviting this editor to discuss on the talk page, to no avail. . Nomoskedasticity (talk) 14:55, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced spoilers by IP addresses. Would be ideal if page is protected until the beginning of June, when the season will likely finish airing. Linguist 111talk 15:00, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – And twice this morning, but it's still probably not frequent enough. Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:22, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    • Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection for one or more pages in this request was recently made, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 15:32, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • Non-automated comment: that it was requested twice and denied twice is not the issue, it's that it should be protected because an IP-hopping anon continues to add unsourced content to the page and all efforts to discuss the issue with the anon have failed to engage the editor in discussion and it is hoped that protecting the page will be a step toward that. Six edits in the last twelve hours should be enough to be considered enough. 208.81.212.224 (talk) 17:43, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Unregistered users started adding random cast members since the protection template was removed. Vandals and additional cast and characters who are not part of the show has been consistently added and been reverted several times.MBdemigod (talk) 15:25, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – An edit-war has been ongoing here for a couple of days now. The participants are talking, but intersperse their discussion with reverts, which is unhelpful. Three days or so of full protection should take care of it. . Vanamonde93 (talk) 15:29, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 15:42, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. A wave of IP editors (186.214.109.194; 93.221.243.65; 180.244.47.144; 177.133.174.67; 93.221.213.89; 84.183.99.216; 199.185.67.239; 84.183.97.124; 84.139.123.154; 84.139.114.106; 219.89.19.22; 84.139.119.116; 93.221.204.79; 2a02:810c:c3f:ee8c:1cfb:a546:96e2:620c; 2a02:810c:c3f:ee8c:2459:9243:ea3c:eb44; 93.221.212.101; 84.183.105.126; 84.139.121.203; 2a02:810c:c3f:ee8c:d8a:c05f:c18:4c5a; 93.221.254.77; 2003:87:4d20:bfd1:3593:3a9b:aca:cf9; 84.183.121.195; 93.221.198.104; 84.183.101.248; 2a02:810c:c3f:ee8c:8c6a:9edb:58ab:bbe6; 84.183.117.115; 93.221.236.107; 2003:74:cc2c:5f00:c860:9be0:1a2a:9a56; 93.221.250.40) has kept emerging and making the same controversial edits over and over again. This is now the third page protection request (earlier ones here: [2][3], both accepted), so perhaps a bit longer protection period could be tried? The vandalism has started already in January 10. Jayaguru-Shishya (talk) 19:35, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite create protection: Repeatedly recreated. —Largo Plazo (talk) 19:45, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – repeated disruptive editing by IPs. Violating BLP. Also using some bad words in local language. . Human3015 TALK  20:43, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Handled requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
