Adding a new AfD discussion

If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Education|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Education. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). NSDA District Tournament

While I'm a big proponent of speech and debate, I feel like they're far over-represented on Wikipedia. This article, for instance. It only cites information from the National Speech and Debate Association itself, and looking for more sources none on the topic can be found. Delete. This article is pretty much nothing more than a brochure for the district tournaments. It gives us nothing of encyclopedic value that isn't already in the article on the national tournament (which itself doesn't provide much more than does the article on the sponsoring organization). Challenger School

This article was created by me long ago, when I still didn't grasp knowledge about Wikipedia. Now, I am here to nominate it for deletion. I can't seem to find any sources whatsoever on this school. Delete - I've expanded Jahangirnagar University with the few scraps of worthwhile information from the institute article, so I'm changing my recommendation from merge to delete in order to close the books on this discussion. Merge to Jahangirnagar University. I don't see enough reliable independent coverage separate from the university to justify a stand alone article for the institute. Merging seems to be in line with the spirit of essay Wikipedia:College and university article advice's section on faculties, academic colleges, and departments, and with WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES, which notes that except for law schools or medical schools, parts of universities are not inherently notable. Has no real sources (just 3 database and internal admin type listings) much less any GNG sources. As a result of no real sources, just has brief "it exists" type content. Redirect to Sagardari Union, the encompassing geographic unit, where it could be mentioned in the education section. I agree that the school is not notable. Sohopathi.com and honoursadmission.com have no reputation for accuracy or fact checking. They are indiscriminate, they attempt to be databases of all schools (or all that teach certain grades) in the country, so they do not help establish notability. They also are not independent of the school because they simply scrape and repackage government databases of school-supplied info, such as the Secondary and Higher Education Division and the Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics. --Worldbruce (talk) 05:38, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete according to the article, the school existed for 3 years and only had about a dozen students each year. The only source that isn't their own website is a government statistical database. Comment. I'm on the fence about this one at the moment, which is not where I expected to be given the tiny number of children and short period the school was open. I have three additional sources, which I'm fairly sure are all about this specific school:

This is a passing mention of the school in a brief article about a child winning a prize. It does not add to notability and I'm mentioning it for completeness.

This, in Vísir, is significant coverage in a reliable, independent source.

This also looks like decent coverage in a reliable source, Morgunblaðið.

Even accepting both those, we only have the defunct school website, archive here, and the stats report - the former definitely being a primary source, the latter more of a grey area - so not reaching WP:THREE, but will see what others say. Tacyarg (talk) 18:58, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The criteria for notability requires more than passing mentions. The Iceland Review is a passing mention about a student coming second in a competition. Leaning Weak keep. The weekly paper Reykjavík had a couple of stories regarding the founding of the school (Nýr einkaskóli í undirbúningi and Tókst ekki hjá Reykjavík). This story in Timarit is about the school (unsuccessfully to date) looking for a place from which to operate and yes, the school is mentioned, but it contains insufficient in-depth information about the school. This other story in Timarit is reporting on the signing of the contract for the school and reports on who attended, where it is based, the number of students and teachers, the canteen, the subjects and the length of contract - all information provided by the school during this event and no "Independent Content". Delete - for-profit schools are not automatically notable, and the only source is not independent. For what it’s worth, I taught for years at a vocational college that was also accredited by ACICS, which was legitimate, but in the early 2010s gave away accreditation like Ronnie Johnson gave out narcotics at the White House.
