A collaborative and interactive introduction to thinking like an ethnomusicologist about cultures of musical blackness in the US and the diaspora. Students immerse themselves in how musical blackness is learned through play, performance, embodied memory, and experimentation. Using girls' game songs and other folk music, we learn the role of musicking in humanizing the Black experience.
