Wonky Pop is a music and lifestyle movement that emerged in 2008 dedicated to showing the world "pop is not a four letter word". Although the movement started in the United Kingdom and is currently active only there a number of acts associated with the movement come from outside the UK. The movement stands opposed to ""cheese pop and crumby two-a-penny indie bands". The term is also used to describe musical acts that play what the BBC calls "quirky, catchy and credible pop". Musicians in this genre have a DIY and Indie spirit. Both the manager of Mika and Peter Robinson founder of the blog Popjustice have separately been given credit for coining the term. Wonky Pop is also the name of a organization that runs packaged tours and a weekly club nights to promote the movement. The style is rooted in the eccentric side of 1980's pop music.
Wonky is a British term meaning Unsteady,Shaky,Awry or Wrong.
