Captain Anshuman Singh was an Indian Army Medical officer in the 26th Battalion of the Punjab Regiment. He was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, India's second-highest peacetime gallantry award, for his exceptional bravery. He lost his life on July 19, 2023 while trying to save other personnel from a fire at an Indian Army ammunition dump in the Siachen Glacier region.[3][4]

On July 19, 2023, a short circuit caused a fire incident. Noticing the fiberglass made hut engulfed in flames, He immediately acted to rescue those trapped inside. He rescued five persons but the fire soon spread to the nearby medical investigation room.

He went back into the fire and was trapped inside while trying to retrieve some life-saving drugs. Despite his best efforts, he could not escape the blaze and died inside. He was cremated with full state honour at his native place in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district on July 22, 2023.[3][5]
