Alfred Costella is the fictional character in the film Everybody Dies by the End. He's an obnoxious film director who's obsessed with his own power to create his last movie. Costella was created by Ian Tripp and portrayed by Vinny Curran.[1][2][3][4]

Character

[edit]

The character Alfred Costella is a short-tempered, erratic,[2] egotistical and nihilistic film director, who's obsessed with finishing his final film, Everybody Dies by the End.[3][5] His previous films such as Battery Acid and Kill Time have created a sense of notoriety around his filmmaking process.[2] Costella is a foul individual with a dominant spirit who thrives on having control in every situation and no one tells him when he's wrong.[1][6] He's a bully and a narcissist with mercurial tendencies.[7][4][8]

Reception

[edit]

Rory Doherty at Vulture Magazine said Costella pesters his actors, enjoys a crew with "cultlike devotion," and has malicious intent "beyond dedication to craft."[1] Kat Hughes at The Hollywood News said that "Costella’s mantra ‘accept, celebrate, immortalise’ has chilling connotations."[6] JP Nunez at Horror Obsessive said he is "as lovable as ever."[9] Brendan Jesus at Horror Press described the filmmaking set on screen as "Camp Costella."[10] Anton Bitel at Projected Figures claimed he is "brilliantly exposed in all his aggressive schlubbiness".[7] S. Rockwood at Set The Tape said "Al is a prima donna who swings from joviality to fury."[11]

Charles Cassady at Video Librarian Magazine says he is "flat-out insane" and "delivers long (very long) rants full of tortured-artist self-pity, ego, and self-justification."[12] Mark Walker at Ginger Nuts of Horror said "he’s someone who can flip from fun-loving buddy to nut-job with the snap of a clapperboard."[13] "David and Tara Court at Ginger Nuts of Horror wrote "If you think Tippi Hedren suffered at the hands of Hitchcock, you ain’t seen nothing yet."[8]
