Foundamental is a global venture capital firm. It was founded in 2018 and manages $150 million in capital commitments as of 2022. Foundamental focuses on venture investments in B2B technology sectors, including construction, 3D and computer-aided design, renovation, workforce, robotics, and supply chains and logistics. Foundamental was early investor in Infra.Market, last valued at $2.5 billion in May 2024.[1]

Foundamental was formed in 2018 and closed its first early-stage fund capitalized at $65 million in 2019.[2][3] The firm closed its second early-stage fund capitalized at $85 million in 2022,[3][4][5] bringing its total capital commitments above $150 million as of 2022.[6]

Foundamental focuses on five B2B verticals: Construction, 3D and computer-aided design, renovation, blue-collar workforce and robotics, and supply chains and logistics.[7]

Investments

Foundamental invests globally in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Africa[2][8], aiming to be the first institutional investor.[9]

Notable companies funded early by Foundamental include Enter[10][11][12], Infra.Market[1][13][14][15], Mighty Buildings[16][17], Monumental[18][19], Snaptrude[20][21], Speckle[22][23], Tazapay[24][25], and Wiz Freight[26][27]

Portfolio

As of June 2024, Foundamental's portfolio companies were valued at an aggregate Fair value of $6.4 billion[28] (2022: $5.4 billion[6]). Foundamental stated its portfolio firms had raised equity-capital of $2.1 billion, and the firm had completed 128 investments[28] (2022: 61 investments[2]) in 22 countries globally.[29]

Seven of Foundamental's portfolio firms have achieved more than $100 million in annual revenues. 81% of the startups Foundamental invested in have graduated to receive follow-on funding.[3][6][29][30] Infra.Market had been profitable in 38 of the first 40 months after Foundamental had invested.[15]

Partners

As of 2022, Foundamental is managed by Founding Partner Patric Hellermann[15][31] and General Partners Adam Zobler and Shubhankar Bhattacharya.[32] Zobler was previously Managing Director at G Squared[33][34] and Bhattacharya served previously at leading Indian VC firm Kae Capital[35] as Partner.[36]
