The New Norm, also known as The New Norm Show, is an animated sitcom aired on the X social media platform. Its "mini-pilot" episode was posted on 25 June 2024. The series stars American political commentators Dave Rubin and Larry Elder, as well as the YouTube personality JP Sears.[1] The series will follow Norm, a middle-aged conservative man who is granted conditional parole from house arrest by taking in Chaz, a teenager sent by the government to "reeducate" Norm on his conservative views.
The sitcom is based on a webcomic named Woke World, which was also the working title of the series.[citation needed]
Plot[edit]
The show's three-minute mini-pilot follows Norm (JP Sears), a middle-aged father upset at the modern state of the progressive world, which is amplified by the presence of his daughter.[2] It is revealed that Norm had previously been placed under house arrest for yelling at a school board demanding the omission of LGBT topics from the school curriculum. Later introduced are the non-binary Chaz, and Charlie (Larry Elder), Norm's friend and boss. Chaz is implied to be some form of psyop sanctioned by the United States government to re-educate homophobic, transphobic, and racist people in the country.
Multiple references to current events and issues are made in the pilot, such as the Bud Light boycott and presence of LGBT-affirming individuals in the Biden administration.[3]
