English: Caudipteryx zoui is a small feathered theropod dinosaur that was so birdlike in overall appearance, some paleontologists think it was in fact a bird. Caudipteryx had a short skull with a beak-like snout and a few tapered teeth in the front of the upper jaw. It had a stout trunk and long legs, indicating it was probably a swift runner. Caudipteryx measured about 80 cm in length and weighed around 5 kg. Fossil impressions of feathers have provided insight into how it lived, and its evolutionary relationships. The feathers on its hands and tail were short and symmetrical, indicating that it was flightless. The discovery of Caudipteryx has led to many intensive studies and debate over the relationship of birds and dinosaurs.
