Description
English: The Great Pyramid and Sphinx, Gizeh, Egypt, circa 1852. Photographed by Leavitt Hunt. Calotype print (salted paper print). The series of original calotypes taken by Leavitt Hunt were donated to the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., by Maud Hunt (Mrs. William E. Patterson) in 1947. Inscribed: "....Leavitt Hunt went up the Nile in 1852 to take these first photographs ever taken of pyramids, tombs, etc., in Egypt..."
