Hello,

I'm Ozzie. I live in the UK having flitted around the world since turning 18 - much too long ago. I'm a native English speaker but not English. Professionally, I'm a mathematician, computer programmer and securities trader (in that order!). Privately, I'm a father, husband, tinkerer, pilot and adventurer (in that order!).

Background

[edit]

Looking for a good challenge and lots of pretty girls, I began my academia at Sweden's oldest university, where I also learnt to speak Swedish, but have since spent a lot of time at, and taken degrees from, two leading American institutions, doing research, writing papers and sometimes producing an original thought or two.

I have now thoroughly surrendered to middle age and given up my semi-nomadic lifestyle (sold out?!) to work as a quant in the financial services sector, focussing on mathematical modelling of exotic phenomena...well, that's all I'm allowed to say except it's cool to have your own supercomputer!

Why here

[edit]

I've edited Wikipedia on and off since 2004 but have only recently actually registered and bothered to get a username. Scarily, I once thought Gopher (look it up!) was an amazing development and I was using Marc Andreessen's Mosaic on April 23, 1993. (Marc is a really good guy, by the way)

Expertise

[edit]

My time available for things like Wikipedia varies with the markets, but I'm always up for helping out if I can and help is needed. My formal expertise is in Applied mathematics, Finance, Investment banking, Aviation (I own a 2004 King Air C90B), Engineering, and Computing.

However, never letting lack of natural ability stand in the way of good effort, I'll happily pretend to know something about Sailing, RC Modelling, and Model engineering, too.

Thanks for looking,

OzLind (talk)
