Alan Rockefeller is an Oakland based mycologist who spends half of his time in the field and half in the lab. In 2001 he began studying mushrooms, and is self taught. Each year since 2007 he has traveled to Mexico to collect mushrooms - he has now photographed more than 1,000 species of fungi from Mexico. Alan enjoys mushroom photography, DNA barcoding and microscopy.

Alan regularly identifies mushrooms for several fungus fairs in Mexico and the USA in addition to identifying on websites including iNaturalist, Mushroom Observer and various Facebook groups.
