Stephen Frink is a prolific underwater photographer and has contributed to Skin Diver Magazine and Scuba Diving magazine. He is currently the publisher of Alert Diver Magazine, an upscale quarterly publiction for the Divers Alert Network.

Frink was born in Iowa, and moved to Illinois in his youth. He moved to Key Largo, Florida in 1978, where he currently lives part time for his career. However, he lives in Rougemont, North Carolina with his rottweiler and his daughter, Alexa, lives not too far away. Frink's wife is deceased.

He is often cited as one of the most frequently published underwater photographers in the world. [1][2][3]

Education

Stephen Frink attended Rock Island High School, located in Illinois. After this he attended Augustana College also located in Rock Island, Illinois. While here he studied swimming. Shortly after, he attended California State University located in Long Beach, California. Here he studied both Psychology and Photography.

Career

Stephen Frink has been an underwater photographer for over 40 years now. Although he is amazing at his career, he never expected for this to be the way his life ended up. In 1978 Frink opened a small studio in Key Largo dedicated to renting cameras, and processing film. While there, he began getting requests to photograph or write articles for dive publications in the area.

Frink worked as a photojournalist for Skin Diver magazine for 17-years. After this he worked for Scuba Diving magazine as a Director of Photography. Beginning in 2011 and continuing still Frink works as a publisher of Alert Diver magazine

Frink also teaches a master level course of Stephen Frink School of Underwater Digital Imaging and operates his own studio and gallery in Key Largo, FL. He has also developed many clients such as, Alcan Aluminum, American Express, Victoria's Secret, Canon, Nikon, and Henderson Aquatics. He also operates a stock photo agency which is a collection of his works.

In an interview with National Geographic Frink says that his one rule for shooting underwater photography is always respect. He believes that there are many ethical elements to consider when shooting any type of nature. Most importantly are the animals that he is taking photos of and the environments that he is in. Respecting the animals and the ecology are very important and essential when shooting underwater photography. [1]

Stephen Frink Collection

The Stephen Frink Collection is a stock photo agency of his own photos and other marine photography that Stephen Frink operates. His content primarily includes underwater photos and tropical marine images. The photo staff of this collection are all experienced scuba divers. This assures clients that images requested from a specific ocean will be accurate in representation. The Stephen Frink collection is a totally immersed collection of both underwater photography and marine photography. [2]

Awards & Achievements

Stephen Frink is known as one of the world's most frequently published underwater photographers. He has also won many prestigious awards in the Underwater Art community.

In 2013, Stephen Frink was named the Diver of the Year for his service to the scuba diving industry. This allowed him to join a list of high profile industry figures at a VIP banquet. [3] In November of 2016 Frink was awarded the Academy of Underwater Arts and science distinguished New Orleans Grand Isle award for art. [4]

In July of 2016 Frink traveled the world to photograph underwater creatures. He dove into the waters of South Australia, South Africa, and Mexico. While on this adventure he found is believed to be the largest great white shark ever encountered. The shark is about six meters long and was found in the waters of Mexico. [5]
