Emre Hüner (Istanbul, 1977) is a Turkish artist who is known for his work with drawing, video, sculpture and installations. He explores constructed narratives and eclectic assemblages that explore the subjects of utopia, archeology, ideas of progress and future through re-imagination of the spatial and architectural entities, organic, and artificial forms.[1]

Hüner lives and works in Amsterdam and Istanbul

Early life and education

[edit]

Hüner earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Brera Academy of Fine Arts, Milan in 2004. He participated and completed in the Artist Residency Program at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, Apexart in New York and Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center, Istanbul.[2]

Work

[edit]

With the use of diverse media, he uses imagery drawn from both poular and archival sourdes like found films, books an photograps. In his Eclectic assemblages, Hüner explores the relationship from mankind to the natural and built environment, the history of technology, utopia's and theories of modernity.[3] His practice encompasses drawing, animation, video, film, sculpture, installation, and occasionally printmaking. These diverse media are vehicles for ideas connected to dense constellations of literary, filmic, artistic, and scientific reference points.[4]

Hüner focuses always in his practices about the other imagination of spatial, architectural entities, possible settlements, uncommon arrangements between subjectivities and objects. These spatial experiences lead Hüner’s works questioning the two landscapes between the capitalist modernity in exotic physical environments and reminiscent of the evolution of artifacts. Experiencing Hüner’s forms could be discussed in context of “new materialism”, an affirmative philosophical approach of materialization that thinkers such as Manuel De Landa or Quention Meillassoux introduced with their writings.[5]
