Wow..

[edit]

I'm just going to make an educated guess here. There have been IPs for quite a while that start with "76.66" requesting redirects at WP:AFC/R. They all have followed the same format, so I am going to guess that it was you, and your IP address keeps changing slightly. If that is true, I want to thank you for all of the things that you have done; it's amazing how many redirects you have requested that have been created. I've seen you around in other areas of WP:AFC, as well, and I want to thank you for all of this. I think that you should consider creating an account; then, I could thank you and not have to make guesses about where you have moved to. :) ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 19:20, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Many of them will be my requests. I used to do it myself, before Wikipedia removed page creation privileges from IP users. Though there are other uses from this IP range, that I've noticed around Wikipedia. 76.66.203.138 (talk) 05:10, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Registration idea

[edit]

If you don't really want an account but need to be autoconfirmed, consider making the account user:76.66, which incorporates/pays tribute to all of your previous IP addresses, is nearly completely anonymous, still is traceable back to Motreal (technically, although someone would still have to dummy the last two sections, as far as I know, all of 76.66.XXX.XXX is Montreal.) Think about it. Sven Manguard Talk 16:03, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking through the IP address range and found edits dating back to March 2009 (possibly more on a different range). I have found dozens of accepted articles for creation templates, on a whole lot of IP talk pages on this range. The articles all follow the same similar formatting. These are the ones I was able to find on this range. With this number of articles you could at the very least be given autopatrolled and reviewer if you created a account. Best, --Alpha Quadrant talk 17:05, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Let's not forget User talk:76.66.199.238, who is listed as one of the founders of Wikipedia:WikiProject North America. Yeah, it seems like 76.66 has been around and done plenty of good work. Sven Manguard Talk 19:18, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's all that necessary, except for the backlog at WP:IFU. That was interesting last year, submitting new Swine Flu maps daily... People don't go making WikiProjects every week, this is the first two I've attempted to make, so linked pages aren't all that common (though making a Portal would entail the same type of multipage proposal...). 76.66.203.138 (talk) 06:26, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP:GFDL

[edit]

76, on a move discussion at Talk:Messapia, Greece, you linked to WP:GFDL. This link is not helpful. The page is a long legal document and it is nearly impossible for anyone to see how that document is relevant to a move or delete discussion. Wikipedia:Merge and delete is a better page to link to, as it actually explains the GFDL rules and why it matters to articles. I'll see about changing WP:GDFL to a disambiguation, instead of a redirect to legalese. Thanks for your good work, D O N D E groovily Talk to me 13:19, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I thought there was a simpler page to link to, but I could never remember it, so I linked to the legal policy instead. Thanks for the heads up on it. 76.66.203.138 (talk) 13:38, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IEEE Donald G. Fink Prize Paper

[edit]

Thanks 76.66.203.138 for intiating the improvement! Article is improved, copyedited, verified on recipient names and got one more reference. Article is now also moved to IEEE Donald G. Fink Prize Paper Award. I deleted the proposal for deletion and unreferenced template. SchreyP (talk) 10:55, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You participated in a discussion respecting the proposed move of this list. Unfortunately, the proponent of the move initiated overlapping merge, move and AFD discussions, causing some degree of confusion, when it appears that his objective was to merge this list into one list for North American veterans. If you are interested, the actual merge discussion is at Talk:Last surviving United States war veterans#Merger proposal. Best regards, --Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:16, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Given how confusing this whole issue has been, I ask that you not make it even more confusing by turning a redirect into yet another list. We can always deal with the redirect afterwards, depending on the outcome. Regards, --Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:16, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not really more confusing, since it became a disambiguation page, which is appropriate, since that will disappear in a merge, and it's more confusing now, as it implies that the US list is the North American list, when it isn't, as it is the US list. 76.66.203.138 (talk) 04:24, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that anyone implies that. The proposal is to merge the U.S. and Canada lists into a North American one. It's that simple. We don't need to add new layers to it, like a third parent list. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 13:29, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The North America list title redirects to the US list, so that's an implication (mathematically speaking anyways ... A=>B ). As for parent list, as it's a dab page, it isn't any sort of parent, rather just a navigation redirector. If it is merged, the disambiguation page would disappear, under the newly merged list. As it hasn't merged yet, and the US list is just a US list, without Canada or other parts of North America, I think a dab page is more appropriate, since content for other areas of North America are present in other list articles. 76.66.203.138 (talk) 13:39, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're reading way too much into a redirect, but if that's a concern, you can always point the redirect to List of last living war veterans. In any event, what you had created, with redlinks and templates, was more akin to a new list than a DAB page. But if you prefer to do an actual DAB, once we know whether there will be a merge or not, I can't say I'm that fussed about it. My biggest concern was complicating an already confusing process by adding an unnecessary parent North America list to the merge proposal, when the whole point of the discussion is to determine if there even needs to be a North American list. I hope I've explained myself (I fear I haven't done so very well). --Skeezix1000 (talk) 14:28, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Redirecting to the List of last living war veterans is fine by me. The redlinks only occurred because HiLo48 said that not having Mexicans was not so good. Talk:Last North American veterans by war 76.66.203.138 (talk) 06:01, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{Expand}} templates RfC

[edit]

Since you have recently commented on the type/color of one or more "expand" templates, could you express your opinion in the centralized RfC on this issue? The discussion is currently fragmented between various template and TfD pages, which makes a consensus on this issue difficult to form. CANBOARD vs CANTALK

[edit]

First, thank you so much for listing merge, rename, move, etc. discussions at WP:CANTALK. It's very helpful. However, we typically list such items on the project page at WP:CANBOARD under the appropriate heading. The reason we do so is because it is easier to people to peruse the active discussions, and it tends to get more attention for that reason. Such discussions only tend to get listed on WP:CANTALK where one has something to say about the discussion beyond the simple fact the discussion exists. Hope that helps. Thanks again. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 13:32, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. 76.66.203.138 (talk) 13:42, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, You made a change on the page above ranking the Nortel article as "mid" for Montreal. Sorry to harp on this, but I am just curious to find out who decides what the ranking is - or is it just a matter of being bold and ranking things to see if anyone objects? (as you can see I am a newbie at this :-) Ottawahitech (talk) 16:50, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Importance ratings are generally used to rate how important an article is to the understanding of the topic of the Wikiproject, in this case, Montreal. Nortel was a major employer in Montreal, and contributed to the development of the Saint-Laurent and Nuns Island industrial parks, but it is not key to the understanding of the area, though important. 76.66.203.138 (talk) 05:33, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
