[edit]

Hello, I'm Adakiko. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, 2012 Women's Four Nations Hockey Tournament (Auckland), but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Adakiko (talk) 23:13, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I am Dino Willox, and have updated the name on this page to accurately reflect my legal name, which was changed in 2016. DrPantydraco (talk) 23:18, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
also, my pronouns are they / them :) DrPantydraco (talk) 23:19, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea who you are nor what Willox's legal name is. See wp:Reliable sources and wp:BLPRS for what would be an acceptable source. e.g. no blogs, wp:self-published sources, wp:user generated content. Adakiko (talk) 23:22, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
does this mean that i am not able to correct my name in any wikipedia sites to accurately reflect my legal name? this is who i am: https://employability.uq.edu.au/profile/541/dino-willox DrPantydraco (talk) 23:25, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
i am happy to provide whatever proof is necessary as i am a reliable source: i am the individual that is referenced in the page!! :) DrPantydraco (talk) 23:25, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living persons, as you did with this edit to 2014 Women's EuroHockey Indoor Championship. Thank you. Adakiko (talk) 23:17, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that people do misidentify themselves to vandalize articles. So, please cite a source. Adakiko (talk) 23:29, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
what source do you need me to cite? i can upload my change of name documentation if you need? all my documentation now has my correct legal name. DrPantydraco (talk) 23:31, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A few other policy pages and essays you might find of interest. Having trouble finding them as usual. wp:Gender identity Adakiko (talk) 23:30, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can add info to your user page user:DrPantydraco. See wp:User pages for guidelines. Adakiko (talk) 00:00, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
wonderful, thank you again! DrPantydraco (talk) 00:01, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if you wanted to create an article about yourself. Creating an wp:autobiography is discouraged. That page suggests how to create one. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 00:09, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DrPantrydraco. Wikipedia doesn't have "Bio pages" per se: it has WP:USERPAGEs and it has WP:ARTICLEs. The relvant policies and guidelines that apply to each type of page are different for the most part since their respective purposes are quite different. If you'd like to create a user page about yourself, you may but you will need to do so as explained in WP:UPYES and avoid the things mentioned in WP:UPNO; you might also want to look at WP:UPOWN since a user page isn't really "yours" so to speak in the sense that you "own" it. If you'd like to create an article about yourself, I suggest you first read WP:42, WP:NOT, WP:AUTO, WP:PROUD, WP:BIOSELF, WP:COISELF, WP:VNT and WP:LUC. That seems like a lot of reading, but those pages contain information that will help you make a better and more informed decision. Lots of people who try to create articles about themselves or you ask others to create such an article on their behalf only find out what that really means after it's too late and they start having problems. It's important to remember that Wikipedia is part of the WP:REALWORLD and pretty much everything posted on any Wikipedia page can be seen by anyone who can access the site and wants to see. Quite a bit of Wikipedia content also ends up being used on other websites as well. How this content is ultimately reused by others is beyond Wikipedia's control and there might be some who try to use what you post against you or in some inappropriate way. Please be aware of such things whenever you reveal any personal information about yourself on any Wikipedia page and contact WP:OVERSIGHT if you feel you've posted too much. You can reveal as much as you want about yourself if you want if you feel there's no or very little risk involved, but you should at least understand that Wikipedia isn't some gated community where whatever happens inside the gates always stays inside the gates. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:02, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
thank you - this is super useful! DrPantydraco (talk) 06:29, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask Tamzin

[edit]

Please stop changing articles and discuss this with administrator User talk:Tamzin? You might want to check their user page user:Tamzin - more familiar with this issue than I am. Thank you Adakiko (talk) 23:38, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ok, thank you - i will talk to Tamzin and see if i can arrange for a 'change all' process or something. DrPantydraco (talk) 23:46, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome, and Thank you! Adakiko (talk) 23:48, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
how do i talk to Tamzin? Sorry, i am (evidently) new to this, and don't know how to work wikipedia! i just wanted to update my name to remove my deadname ... :( DrPantydraco (talk) 23:49, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
She (goes by multiple pronouns) doesn't seem to be active. She may see my notification and start a discussion here.
To start a discussion, go to her page user talk:Tamzin. Click on "Add topic" near the top of the page. Add a subject and start your discussion. See help:talk pages for the basics and wp:talk page guidelines for more detail/policies. Adakiko (talk) 23:58, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
thank you so much. you have been really helpful. hopefully i will be able to resolve this, and learn more about wikipedia at the same time!
Once i get everything sorted, i will let you know.
thanks again for keeping an eye on things, and making sure that the correct standards are met :) DrPantydraco (talk) 00:00, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome. I forgot to mention this; you can ask questions at the wp:Teahouse. You probably would get a good answer there too. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 00:03, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
great, thanks. have put a question up there. :) DrPantydraco (talk) 00:27, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DrPantydraco, thanks for reaching out on my talk page! I'm also happy to help you navigate the process of getting your deadname removed from these articles. I found a couple of decent supporting sources that can help editors justify these updates: this Hockey Wales tweet includes both names for you, and WorldCat includes your old name as an alternative name. There's no simple "replace all" process here, just editors making changes by hand. Usually it's best to not make your own changes about yourself, and to wait for non-involved editors to make the changes instead, due to Wikipedia's conflict of interest policies (Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide). These hockey articles also have pretty complicated formatting, so it may be best for a more experienced editor to put in these changes. I'd encourage waiting for a little bit while I and other editors take a look at how to handle this. :)

@Adakiko: this is a great example of how Wikipedia:Assume good faith can help! Glad you were able to direct DrPantydraco to some good resources after initial confusion. :) Dreamyshade (talk) 00:44, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

AMAZING! thank you both so much, this has been a great experience (and a learning one). I really appreciate the care and compassion that you have both shown in this thread. DrPantydraco (talk) 03:58, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hi there, Dr. Willox. Sorry about the confusion here. Under our guideline MOS:DEADNAME, your current name is the one we should use in all instances. I have restored the edits you made, and caught a few you missed. Please let me know if I've missed any. Are you the Willox referenced at Del LaGrace Volcano?

For future reference, what you did here is the right way to go about this thing. If you ever have any concerns about your treatment as a person mentioned on Wikipedia, feel free to post at the noticebord for biographies of living persons or contact our email helpline. Or you can always reach out to me at User talk:Tamzin.

@Adakiko, thanks for drawing my attention to this. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 01:02, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

google books gives "Dino Willox" as the author and "Annabelle Willox, Iain Morland" as the editors. Adakiko (talk) 01:18, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good catch. Article updated. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 01:31, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
thank you :) DrPantydraco (talk) 04:01, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Willox, my apology on the confusion. Glad this was resolved. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 01:22, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

wonderful thank you.
And, yes i am the Willox referenced By Del LaGrace Volcano. I edited the book under my old name, but they were able to amend the 'print on demand' version until it went out of print. DrPantydraco (talk) 04:00, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I need to amend that. My apology for my clumsiness that caused the confusion! Best wishes Adakiko (talk) 05:21, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
