familycolor

[edit]

Hi, Eejay649. You seem to be focussed on |familycolor=Altaic in {{infobox language}} and {{infobox language family}}. If you look at the documentation for those templates, you'll see that this parameter is used the define the colour of the headings in the infobox to indicate broad groups of languages. There is a limited number of accepted values, corresponding to a fixed set of colours, and "Koreanic" is not one of them. Supplying the value "Altaic" for this parameter does not put generate any visible text saying that a language is Altaic. All it does is give the headings the same colour that is used for neighbouring languages. Kanguole 16:34, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Altaic, even if invalidated as a language family, is still a group of closely related languages. It seems the color code for Altaic is commonly used for all the members of the hypothetical language family. Language groups for the color codes, as it seems, doesn't necessarily have to be a single language family. For example, Paleosiberian is also color coded even though it is not a language family, but rather a group of closely affiliated languages. Koraskadi (talk) 20:14, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
