Image additions in Kolkata

[edit]

Thanks for contributing to Kolkata with image additions. However, it being a Featured article, we need to maintain a certain standard. Current images in the article were selected after due discussions and proper checks. If you want to add/delete/replace any image in the article, kindly first discuss at Talk:Kolkata with proper rationale for the replacements. Amartyabag TALK2ME 03:00, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mumbai and Delhi are not Featured articles, so they doesn't have to maintain strict standard of quality. Adding too much photos are a concern as they tend to clutter the page visually, making it hard to read. If you see the [article review], addition of too much photos was a concern and so we had to remove them. Secondly, most of the images has been selected after careful considerations related to photo resolutions, clear copyright status, etc. Another thing has to be kept in mind that while adding photos we added photos which reflects a majority or common view, for example, normal buses are more common than AC buses. Or things has been balanced, like while we have added photo of a building of IT sector, we have also added flower market photo as hawking/street vendors constitute a large part of the economy. Similarly, while we have photo of South City, we have added photo of slum as 1/3th of the population of Kolkata lives in slum. In other cases, the photos are automatically rotated, so you may not see all the added images at the same time. We will be glad to add better pictures, high resolution/clear subject, for example we can have better pictures of South City complex, Calcutta Medical College, Akashbani Bhawan. Let me know, if you find or can add new photos of such places. If you want to modify/add/delete any photos start a discussion at Talk:Kolkata, stating your rationale for such modification for each photos. Let me know if you need any further clarifications. Amartyabag TALK2ME 07:37, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Its ok. It happens with all at the beginning. You can add better pictures of South City complex, Calcutta Medical College, Akashbani Bhawan, new integrated airport terminal. However, kindly discuss that in the talk page first. I could request you to continue editing other articles which might need editing. See {{Kolkata topics}} for image and text additions on individual pages related to Kolkata. However, keep in mind not to add copyrighted material/copy-paste from other sources, don't over-do with image additions and give proper references. Amartyabag TALK2ME 08:34, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please try to understand, please do not add images without discussion to Kolkata article. This might be considered as vandalism and might be blocked from further editing. Amartyabag TALK2ME 10:08, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Start the discussion at Talk:Kolkata by creating a new section just like you did at my talk page. As this need community consensus. For the time being, I am reverting back some of your additions. Amartyabag TALK2ME 10:13, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, even I am against the slum image, but the rationale for its inclusion was much more acceptable. We had an earlier discussion regarding this. You may start a fresh discussion though. No need to call me sir! :)Amartyabag TALK2ME 11:06, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please STOP adding individual museums to the West Bengal section of List of museums in India. Control copyright icon Hello Anitek bhattacharya, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Kolkata Museum of Modern Art has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. /wiae /tlk 12:32, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
