While Wookieepedia itself is GFDL, its logo incorporates a screencap from the movie and is thus copyrighted. According to Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria #9 "Non-free content is used only in the article namespace; it is never used ... on user pages." I have reverted your change to the details of Earnhardt's death. What was there was cited. The citation that you kept did not substantiate your change but in fact disputed it, so please redo your edit with citing a reliable source. If you edit is indeed true and proven with a citation, then please change the text to read something like "it was initially reported that he died instantly, but ... (insert change here). I have no interest in a revert war, I just want to see whatever happened is proven. I wasn't there. The burden of proof is on the person changing the article, especially when what is there is cited. This subject of this article is contentious to many people, and we need to do it right. Royalbroil 01:02, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(You responded on Royalbroil's talk page:) Are you saying that I should just take the citation out? PS If you responed again, I will answer it on my page. Just heads Up! :] Clonetroop125
No. All citations need to cite their adjacent facts in the article. You changed the article to indicate that the reference said something that it didn't. I think the source in this article is used to cite several facts, so it should remain. Please cite your addition to "prove" that what you say is true. I AM NOT calling you a liar, just asking you to prove it. The verifiability policy states "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. 'Verifiable' in this context means that any reader should be able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source. Editors should provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is challenged or is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed." Proving it is especially important for living people, and there is a policy to show its importance. I know that it is less important for dead people, but Earnhardt's death has been quite contentious. I'll help you find a reliable source if you want. Your talk page is on my watchlist, so please answer here to keep it all together. Royalbroil 03:23, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think it was from ESPN Classic on a show that I think was called SportsCentury:Dale Earnhardt. Im pretty sure and if not I KNOW I heard it somewhere. PLEAZE HELP ME !!!!!!! Clonetroop125
The culture in Wikipedia changed from "I remember seeing it somewhere" to "cite it" because Wikipedia was getting eaten up by the press for too many inaccuracies. Things have gotten a lot more accurate. This article from CNN/Sports Illustrated [3] summarizes the autopsy report by saying "...There is no evidence of injuries to the neck bones, ligaments or muscles that would be expected in association with basilar skull fractures caused by head whip..." I found nothing to confirm what you wrote, but I encourage you to google the internet to find what you wrote. Royalbroil 05:24, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely NOT a reliable source. That's a sister Wikimedia project that is a fork from the English Wikipedia. The sister project was started by a Wikipedia:WikiProject NASCAR member. The article was copied directly from the English Wikipedia, and pasted as is. The article here on the English Wikipedia has been changed since then to remove unsourced comments. Well, I just used the code:

<div style="padding: 10px; background: #000000; border: 4px solid #090; color: #ffffff;">

at the top of the page and

</div>

at the botom, before the categories. I'm not sure how to use most of the indicators, but I know the value #000000 after background determines the background color, the one after border determines how wide the border will be, and the one after color determines the border color. You can check the page Web colors for values. Hope this helped you. :) —May the Edit be with you, always. (T|C) 10:35, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi... just to let you know... youre not the only one having difficult dealings with Duke of Whitstable. If this continues, I am going to investigate more into his actions, as I am unsure whether he is just a very very strict wikipedian, or if he is just a vandal. However, I cannot determine which currently...
Although I do have to admit that Wikipedia is not a networking site... I am sure that the line between discussion and networking is a very thin one, so he would certainly need a very large amount of evidence to assume anything like this at all. Speedy deletion of Gilmore Middle School

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Gilmore Middle School, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sting_au Talk 02:53, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

G'day HIYO. I'm just replying to your message. You can create an article about the school. You just need to research your topic and put up a better page than the one you did. It was deleted because it was lacking in content. Practice a bit in the sandbox and try reading some of the instructions on how to write decent articles. Here try this one. Removal of {{Underconstruction}} from your user page

[edit]

Hi HIYO,

I just wanted to let you know that I removed the {{Underconstruction}} template you had placed on your user page. This template is used not only to mark articles currently undergoing major revisions but also to place them into a category specifically designated for such articles, allowing other editors to identify them at a glance. As such, it is not appropriate for userpages, but if you'd like to keep the notice at the top, I suggest substituting the template by placing {{subst:Underconstruction}} at the top of your user page and then removing the category tag from the resulting code.

Thanks! --jonny-mt(t)(c)I'm on editor review! 04:20, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't add them back, give me a shout on my talk page if you disagree. Thanks! Fin© 20:52, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Motto of the day

[edit]

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:30, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

[edit]

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
