Information icon Hello, I'm Eric-Wester. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Walter Reeves— because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Eric-Wester (talk) 00:30, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, good catch on the Walter Reeves article. Your edit got it back to a more consistent, supported place. I'm not sure what happened with the architect's alleged information getting inserted (and I say alleged because the picture was not of him), but thank you for boldly fixing it! —C.Fred (talk) 00:37, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Walter Reeves (engineer) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. reddogsix (talk) 00:45, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Walter Reeves (engineer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. reddogsix (talk) 00:46, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

I notice that you've added see-also links to a number of articles on U.S. politicians, including some on my watchlist. I've no complaints about the substance of your edits. However, you don't appear to make a practice of including edit summaries, and I'd like to encourage you to do so.

Articles on pols draw lots of problem edits: vandalism, editorializing, OR... If you don't add summaries, than article-watchers have to check up on each edit individually, which is a waste of time that they could spend improving the encyclopedia. The fact that you haven't established a userpage is also a red flag: quite often, though certainly not always, a red username is a sign of a WP:SPA or a newly-established account by someone who might have a poor understanding of Wikipedia policies.

An edit summary doesn't have to be long or detailed: something simple like "Added see-also link" would suffice. Thanks! Ammodramus (talk) 13:08, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with ...William. There is no consensus use of {{Internet Archive author}} violates ELNO it's the only way we have to link to collections of materials at Internet Archive for which there is wide consensus and the template is used in 10s of thousands of Wikipedia articles. -- GreenC 20:03, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Kev519.. you're adding the templates too fast and too indiscriminate. Not all of them should have |sopt=t yet you do that for all of them. You add wrong names sometimes or don't spell out the full name using the middle initial, this is wrong - did you read the documentation? You are not checking the search results and blindly adding the template, sometimes they have blank search results (no books at IA). Sometimes you add 3 articles in 1 minute.. that's about 3-6 times faster than a normal person who is checking results would do. Are you running a script? Are you checking the search results and modifying the template parameters to fine tune the results? I can support your work but the important thing is to get it right, not speed. -- GreenC 23:43, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • In this case the name "Dan Daniel" is very common and it results in too many false positives. You will need to build a custom search. See the template documentation for methods and instructions. -- GreenC 13:27, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Can you go back over the entries you've added. Click through the link and verify it returns accurate search results. Modify the search parameters per the template instructions - there is not a 1-size-fits-all.. About 50% of the time it will need |sopt=t and other times not. Experiment with different search settings until you find a search result that works well. If it only returns 1 or 2 books, maybe its best not to add it. If this is too much work or too complicated, please consider not using this template at all. -- GreenC 13:22, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hey, I'm going through your edits one by one, there are too many problems. It's too much work for me to check every use of {{Internet Archive author}}. You've added close to 500, it would take at least 10-12 hours to check. The first 20 I checked had problems in about 50%. I see no choice but to revert them all, and ask you to be much more careful about your work if you decide to continue using this template. -- GreenC 13:43, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Stop moving pages

[edit]

You need to stop moving pages without consensus to do so. You can't just move a page because you feel like it. Go to the talk pages of the articles to get consensus first. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 17:19, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, you can move pages just because you feel like it -- WP:BEBOLD -- but one shouldn't do so if you know it's likely to be contentious. EEng 17:30, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@EEng: Thank you, my personal opinion of your value to the project had been "on the fence", but I'm back on two feet. - FlightTime (open channel) 17:44, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It seems my sarcasm is misunderstood, let me be more clear, I can not believe a seasoned editor would say "you can move pages just because you feel like it". What a ridiculous thing to say. You are not funny. - FlightTime (open channel) 20:25, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
By you can move pages just because you feel like it – WP:BEBOLD I meant... well... exactly what BEBOLD says. Apparently you want to imply that I meant "change things randomly on a whim", but of course I was writing for people with common sense, so sorry if I overestimated you. The assertion that opened this thread, Go to the talk pages of the articles to get consensus first is dead wrong, and that's what I was setting out to correct. EEng 04:52, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@EEng: Respect, Value ,and understand what you're saying but 2 moves of the same page within the span of a few hours with 3 different names is a little ridiculous, especially when you know it's likely to be contentious and not making at least an attempt to discuss anywhere. Was hoping for a response from the actual user but Judging from the rest of the page here that most likely isn't going to happen. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 20:03, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This editor has done some dubious stuff IMO and seems to find unusual ways to push the boundaries in the grey area between good faith and vandalism. -- GreenC 21:10, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, my intent was only to correct the implication that consensus is always needed before moves. I wasn't looking at the specifics of the particular moves that had been done. EEng 04:52, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

October 2017 - Video game launch games

[edit]

I didn't want to bug you with the same edit summary in every single reversion, but my reason for reverting is that the article - List of video game console launch games - is largely useless when the much more easy-to-use game lists exist for each console already. The individual console game lists are of a higher quality and are easy to sort by date, showing what games came out at launch. For these reasons, List of video game console launch games is currently up for deletion at this page right here. You can learn why the article is being considered for deletion, and if you want to voice your disagreement, right there's the place to do it! BruzerFox 02:25, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to Years in Vermont

[edit]

Hi Kev519: why have you replaced many of the “years in Vermont” categories by replacing the “year in US state category” template which works fine with a standard “by year” category template. This older template works OK if it includes all of the categories. But you have omitted the decade categories; eg Category:2015 in Vermont is no longer a subcategory of the decade category Category:2010s in Vermont. There are many more of these unnecessary changes, back to the first year Category:1777 in Vermont. Hugo999 (talk) 11:17, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

GameFAQs refs removed.

[edit]

Hi Kev519. I saw that you added some external links to several Sega games list articles. I appreciate that you're trying to help. However, GameFAQs has been deemed an unreliable source per WP:VG/RS. Its use as a game database or list is not allowed because it is entirely user-contributed without editorial oversight or fact-checking. Therefore, I have undone your edits. If you'd like, you may contact me on my talk page to discuss what is a reliable source and appropriate for use on Wikipedia to add more information to the encyclopedia. Thanks for contributing! Sources and communication

[edit]

I contacted you back in January as you had created an unreferenced article. You did not respond to this message and did not address the issue. You also continued creating articles that not only had no clear referneces but were incomplete, such as List of 1981–82 NBA season transactions. You seem to have ignored all messages about these. Please be aware that WP:Communication is required and see WP:BURDEN and WP:V. Please respond to this message. Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 12:30, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Boleyn: Unfortunately he ignores everyone and continues to add incomplete information to articles. - GalatzTalk 12:58, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Galatz. Kev, if you continue to edit without responding to my latest message, I will initiate an WP:ANI and it may result in you being blocked. Boleyn (talk) 13:01, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Boleyn: BTW he also edits under an IP address which is blocked. I opened a SPI on it, not sure why it only resulted in a warning when the IP is blocked, but it did Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Kev519/Archive. - GalatzTalk 13:14, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Kev519 I see you are currently editing but have yet to respond to the above comments. - GalatzTalk 15:02, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
