Lithoderm, if you have control of the account again can you email and let somebody know so we can arrange an unblock (I'm not sure if you can edit your talk page at the moment). Ceoil (talk) 21:57, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The, ahem, MoBA[1] is being work up for April fools TFA. Once your exhile is over, you interested? I think you suggested something similar not long ago. Ceoil (talk) 23:28, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inuit culture

[edit]

This is a great article (look at Dorset culture for comparison). Would it be acceptable to reformat it and post it (with the accompanying talk page)? Do you have a new user account? Hope all is well. Cheers, Uyvsdi (talk) 00:12, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

I will move it into the mainspace if you so desire, but there were numerous objections concerning its factual accuracy (see the talk page)... I'm taking a long wikibreak to catch up on schoolwork... Petropoxy (Lithoderm Proxy) (talk) 17:24, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good to see that you are back! I'm glad you posted your article because it's much more in depth than comparable articles. Will give it a look later this afternoon. Best of luck with your course work! -Uyvsdi (talk) 17:41, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

Re:My health

[edit]

Thanks for the kind thoughts - and no, you weren't really part of the 1% (there are far, far worse out there :). One thing I've learnt here is that the main thing arguments between editors show is how passionate we are about Wikipedia. If we didn't really care one way or another, most of the disputes would never arise. And yes, it is often a fight against entropy. Cheers, Grutness...wha? 00:53, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit conflict

[edit]

I see from the edit conflict i just got that you've spotted the three new museum-stub templates :) Grutness...wha? 04:50, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah.... some day I'll wise up and get off the computer.... You might want to make {{Denmark-museum-stub}} and {{Poland-museum-stub}} too... Lithoderm 04:51, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. As to taiwanese museums, no - there's enough possibility of edit warring if you add it to articles about Hong Kong - Taiwan would be going much too far! I'll make the two you mention and {{Taiwan-museum-stub}} as well. The debate at WP:WSS/P suggests that country-specific museum stubs for just about any country are a sensible idea. Grutness...wha? 05:02, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
{{Vietnam-museum-stub}}, {{Sweden-museum-stub}}, {{New-Zealand-museum-stub}}, {{Switzerland-museum-stub}}, and {{Austria-museum-stub}} would also be useful. Lithoderm 05:22, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Greedy :) - all done, though the NZ one is at the usual stub naming ({{NewZealand-museum-stub}} - it's not a subtype of some nonexistent Zealand-museum-stub). I've also added {{Turkey-museum-stub}}. Grutness...wha? 22:39, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm adding a final batch for the time being, for Indonesia, Burma, Malaysia and Mexico, all of which seem to have a fair few museum stubs. That should at least get the main Museum stub category down to under a page. Grutness...wha? 00:36, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oooh, I see from reading here that my list is far from complete. I'm going to update with those listed here, but if there are others I'm unaware of, would you list them there? Thanks! StarM 02:09, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Association of Children's Museums

Hi, just curious about this edit since the org represents museums in 20+ countries. Any reason you think it should be just US specific? Thanks! StarM 00:36, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I just wanted to thank you for your work on the template and the articles. I'm doing a research paper on Urizen and the related mythology, and wikipedia has been wonderful as a tertiary source, largely because of your efforts. I have all the scholarly and critical essays I need for hard citations, thanks to the uni library, but using this work as an overview and a guide to related topics has been invaluable. Thanks :) Deltopia (talk) 20:19, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's rare that one's thanked for this. Flattering, I must admit. You may also wish to thank User:Charles Matthews, who actually started most of those articles, and User:Ceoil. But I do appreciate it. Lithoderm 21:27, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Duck herding

Thank you! I'm glad there are no hard feelings about our initial conversations - I realise I can get pretty cranky as far as stubs are concerned, so I'm sorry for anything I said that might have seemed over the top. :) Grutness...wha? 22:16, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing

[edit]

This is a good template to put on user (or article) talk pages to clue them in: {{refstart}}. Or give them a link to WP:REFB. Ty 02:58, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll try using it. Speaking of templates, I think that this one is finally good to go! I come across many new articles that look like they're direct MSWord imports... Lithoderm 03:05, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Almost (and it looks good)! One slight modification I've made to it, though - the stub template always goes after the categories. Grutness...wha? 23:15, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I tweaked it a little more too, but the changes haven't shown up in the template yet. Perhaps double-transclusion is a bad idea..? Lithoderm 22:35, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats i award you with the anti vandilisim for stopping it very often

Ok.... from a sometimes-vandal himself? What is with you? Your edits are either of questionable value (like linking common words that probably shouldn't be linked -"Paris", "imagination", etc.) or outright vandalism: [3]. Thank you for the barnstar, but you could do me a much greater favor by leaving William Blake alone. I suppose I can see where you were coming from, with "if this Blake could do when he stood up from shite, what could he do when he sat down to write?" (-When Klopstock England Defied), but I'm probably thinking to hard about this and the part about Mary is pure puerility. Hoping you do something constructive, Lithoderm 02:09, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blue Nude

[edit]

Some of us are thinking about working on Les Demoiselles d'Avignon next; and it would be great to have this image (in its own article) - Blue Nude (Souvenir de Biskra) to use, apparently it drove Picasso so crazy that his competitive nature motivated him to paint Les Demoiselles. Hopefully you have a little time...thanks....Modernist (talk) 23:19, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think this one - #3 3 looks close, although the first one seems ok, a little dark, 3 seems best. He made a sculpture at the same time - both are in the Baltimore Museum as part of the Cone collection...thanks litho..as to warm nudes...hey it beats cold ones..Modernist (talk) 04:08, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Note to self: Woman Reading and Madras Rouge also need pictures. Done. I uploaded both versions of the nude, also. Lithoderm 04:49, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Note to self 2: Pre 1923 paintings that still don't have pictures:

Lithoderm 19:27, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

great job Litho...thanks..Modernist (talk) 23:37, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done. You don't have to worry about having the image only in its own article. Because it is in the public domain in the US (hypothetically, at least), you should be able to put it into the article on Les Demoiselles without having to supply an additional rationale. Lithoderm 16:05, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Well, you are some great editor. Thanks man for all you have put together, not least at Caspar David Friedrich and List of works by Caspar David Friedrich, a list which is now exemplarly. Todays's Lucy is only latest eg where you have been invaluable. Ceoil (talk) 23:01, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Lithoderm 23:03, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I like the new verticles on your F Bacon like user talk, and I got a shock when I clicked on the lith page. Whatever, on to business....Les Demoiselles d'Avignon; any interest. Ceoil (talk) 02:54, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly, I'll do whatever I have time to. I seem to be pretty well in to a List of works by Henri Matisse, but "whatever Ceoil is working on" is on my list, [4], in any event. Lithoderm 03:37, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And CDF will be on the mainpage soon :) [5] Kafka Liz (talk) 13:01, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

Your picture has some good stuff there Litho...Keep at it, keep painting...Modernist (talk) 02:57, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unrelated question - I recently added Boy Leading a Horse 1906, to Les Demoiselles d'Avignon and its still a FU image..any chance it's really PD? Modernist (talk) 02:57, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. In practice, PDUS tends to mean "painted in this date before 1923"-- that's what I've been following for Matisse, anyway. The law actually reads "published", so it has to be reproduced before 1923 in the US... this is difficult to prove or disprove, so the creation date... what I said above... but Picasso seems to be a special case, because his estate is so litigious. I'd ask Ty to look at this- I'm not even sure where to start looking on the net, and he did so well at Les Demoiselles, too. Lithoderm 03:12, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
All I can find so far pre 1923 on Google books are old fogeys complaining about "the new trends in art". Sorry about that... My favorite so far is "After Bouguereau the deluge! The technical excellence of Meissonier could not be surpassed!"
According to the MoMA[6] it was in the collection of a French gallery until 1934, so it's unlikely to have been published in France, much less published in the US. Lithoderm 03:29, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, It's an important masterpiece, also related to El Greco and FU or no...I'll keep it in the article..thanks...Bouguereau I can do without, deluge or no. :) Modernist (talk) 03:21, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Native American art

[edit]

Hi Lithoderm! Wow, wonderful - I can't believe how much work you've already accomplished! I was also hoping to take a hemispheric approach. The challenge is how to best divide time periods and geographical regions. It seems that you have found the solution to place the ancient and historical (up to 20th century) art under their geographical regions and then pool contemporary Native artists together. One way to get a handle on contemporary native arts would be to divide it by media. And legislation such as NAGPRA and the Indian Arts and Crafts law should be included in the US contemporary section, since they have had such widespread ramifications. Anyway, I'll try to gather notes and put them in some wikipedia form! I look forward to collaborating on this project. Cheers, Uyvsdi (talk) 02:00, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

Hi, I created a copy of your page on to my page, so I can tinker with the text. I made some (hopefully non-controversial) edits to the your main version. I thought it would be polite put South America first, since the oldest art we known about is found there and English-language articles tend to be North-centric, but then it doesn't flow because the Caribbean section should be adjacent to the South American section. I don't know a term for the northeastern area of South America. Is Panama what you mean by "Intermediate area"? I hope you don't mind, but I changed dates to the BCE/CE format, since it's more cultural neutral than CE/AD. I also removed the mention of 8000 BCE in the introductory sentence, since art went back further in time (the paintings at Caverna Pedra Pintada), but if you like, of course, restore it. I did include the mention that False Face Society masks are not art and are forbidden by the tribe to be shown in public. You'll notice most recent, culturally aware Native American art books (such as Berlo and Phillips) don't even mention them. This is so much to write about, no need to include items not considered art (i.e. for public display) by tribes, e.g. medicine bundles, funerary urns, etc. I'm going to be swamped for the next week and a half, but will try to write text for this project afterward. What is your main sphere of interest? I have a feeling I'm probably the most interested in contemporary art. Cheers, Uyvsdi (talk) 18:44, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]
Oh, yeah, I'm surprised you published it directly to the Wikipedia. Do you think it's ready for the public? Cheers, U

[[Image:Gauguin Oviri.jpg|thumb|100px|my puny copy]] I don't suppose you have a higher res copy of this in your archives do you? I'm trying to dyk the page[7] but I suspect its puny size will make it not so. Well, its either that or some plot against me. Did you hear about a plot? Ceoil (talk) 21:09, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grand, I was only chancing my arm anyway. Anyway, how is all with you? I've been following-stalking, if you might- your contributions all this time; very nicely impressive. You may have notice I tried to emulate the shock value of your user page repro of Gustave Courbet on my page, with a less effective, er, effect. Anyway, happy christmass, and let me know if you hear anything about the plot I mentioned above. I wont tell them it was you who informed, swear. Ceoil (talk) 22:13, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've been trying to spend more time working, so you may see less of me until this summer. My eventual plan is to try and work William Blake's Illustrations of the Book of Job up to GA status; that GAR will give us an idea of a William Blake GAR (And even FAC :D) will go... Lithoderm 22:39, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What are you thoughts on Francis Bacon? I think it would be an easy one to improve up to FA, and no more deserving artist IMO, if only we could loose the 'contested nationality' gremlins. In a past Web.1 life I used to run [8], so it would be no problem to write. Ceoil (talk) 22:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
