This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Geishunkyo bridge.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Thanks for uploading Image:Baggara_Arabs_Belt.svg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on March 5, 2006, by Chris9086 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because March 5, 2006 fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

pointless

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting March 5, 2006, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate March 5, 2006 itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --69.91.62.221 04:50, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Eating Asida.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Eating Asida.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Rack_(torture). Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Jfiling 01:14, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for the vandalism warning. The reverts you made were to highly controversial and completely unsubstantiated statements, which it appeared that you had either added yourself or you had previously reverted back into the article. Whichever is the case, I see that those statements are no longer in the article, which is good unless there is better proof for them to be included. For what it's worth, I do believe that Bush has ordered torture of suspected terrorists, possibly even including the rack, and I will be the first one to add that to that article once it is substantiated, unless you beat me to it ;) Jfiling 05:23, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Dubai Cares, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Slavery by country

[edit]

Hi. I see your rationale for keeping the page and it certainly looks as though it might be useful (though your definition of "slavery" will have to be well-sourced), however Wikipedia can't have effectively empty pages hanging about for indeterminate times while they're under development. Rather than deleting the page I've moved it to your user space here. You can edit it it there, taking as much time as you like to add content. When the content looks substantial enough for a mainspace article, you can move it back yourself (use the "move" tab at the top) or ask me, or any other editor, to do it for you. Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:2193497389 6b7149ff60 o.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 13:27, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The copy called Image:2193497389 6b7149ff60 o.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. Map of Kanem

[edit]

Hello ! I am sorry for the late response. You asked on what source this map is based. It is a bit inacurate, because it does not represent the raw territory of the Kanem Empire, but mostly the cultural influence of the state. Also, it does include the Bornu kingdom, which explains the weird marking west of lake Chad. I hope it does not represent a problem. By the way I didn't knew about the existence of a territory map of Kanem in Commons, thank you. :)

Copts in Libya

[edit]

Thanks for adding info about Copts in Libya. The lines you added say that the Coptic community in Libya is composed almost exclusively of foreigners. Are you sure that almost exclusively is the right choice of words here as I am not aware that there are non-Muslim Libyan nationals, which would mislead the reader to thinking that there is indeed a small (very small) indigenous minority of Libyan Copts - which is not the case. P.S. Consider adding the info to Christianity in Libya article as well. cheers. ;) -- hɑkeem¡ʇuɐɹɯǝǝʞɐɥ 06:20, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You mean I wrote that specifically in the article "Religion in Libya"? If so, than I only added to what had already been written.
This is the original sentence (as I remember it):
"The Anglican bishop of Libya has his seat in Cairo, as most Christians in Libya come from Egypt"
This is half-true, as Copts, who slightly outnumber the other denominations, are originally from Egypt — in fact, they are probably the closest to being pure descendants of the ancient Egyptians. However, you do have a point as to how this implies that the, quote, majority of Christians are almost exclusively foreigners.
I only added:
"The Anglican bishop of Libya has his seat in Cairo, as most Christians in Libya come from Egypt... including the Copts"
Either way, both are inaccurate, as it should probably only say that most Christians, the Coptic Orthodox, as well a few other denominations, have historical roots in Egypt.
I can tell you one thing for sure, though, I don't even remember writing the exact words: "the Coptic community in Libya is composed almost exclusively of foreigners". I know for a fact that this is not logical, as it is not feasible in most circumstances to have the majority being immigrants for centuries! The Italians have a history as well, as Libya was once a colony, so the same goes for all of the other Christians who have at least a notable prescence (ie: Catholics, Anglicans, Greeks, Russians).
Also, it was contradictary when it said that the Catholics have the largest minority, and then said the same for the Copts. According to the source I added, along with the Catholic source, the Copts should have about 10,000-20,000 more than the Catholics, so as this difference is not noticable, I see why the articles said what they used to.
Would you mind telling me where you think it needs help? Until then, I will try to add more information to the articles - may be it should clear up this mess with all this articles (the text is almost "exclusively" copy-and-pasted XD)Thanks a bunch. :)
No problem. I agree entirely about what you say about Looklex Encyclopedia. The only problem is, it's probably the only source that I can find for the Copts in Libya — notice that I only used the 1% figure as an approxamite estimate. However, if I do find a better source (AKA, any other source at all XD ), then I'll replace Looklex with that other source. In any case, I would like to thank-you for helping me out and I look forward to working with you. Later,
Also, I should notify you that whoever wrote "exclusively" to begin with didn't have any of the right sources. Thus, I have changed "exclusively" —> "largely" — not the best word, but I think that you'll find that it's far more suitable ;). Cheers, ~ Troy (talk) 22:48, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, then. Considering that you know more about Libya than I do, I'm not going to touch that sentence. Of course, if either one of us finds a reliable source which is contrary to any of our edits, then it should logically override our perspectives. Until then, I think that this is agreeable. An article you created is about to be deleted: Tools which can help you

[edit]

The article you created, Oppression:_Years_of_Torment is about to be deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster your respond, the better chance the article you created can be saved. This is because deletion debates only stay open for a few days, and the first comments are usually the most important.

There are several tools and other editors who can help you keep the page from being deleted forever:

  1. You can list the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. If you need help listing your page, add a comment on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain to you all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted, here: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond on the deletion page.
  3. When try to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list of your own acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
Acronyms in deletion debates are sometimes incorrectly used, or ignore rules or exceptions.
  4. You can merge the article into a larger article.

If your page is deleted, you still have many options available. Good luck! travb (talk) 18:28, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

However, please use the talk page regularly, as the Maltese language article is a hotbed of controversy.. strange, for such an innocuous little language hardly anybody speaks or understands, eh? But there it is. Rather than make bizarre changes (pushing a Maghreb connection) to Maltese (which has been isolated from its ancestor, Siculo-Arabic, for over 1,000 years) it may benefit the article if you found more interesting things to do. Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. arabic and japanese translation from English wiki,

[edit]

Salami Hakeem, I found you on the translation section, it would be good to see English language articles in other languages, people like me who provide short articles and material for multi language projects will not have to use translators for words. A few suggestions for Arabic and Japaneese proactive and Super Skin Lightener I need these two for a project and I have more suggestions for future.

Research survey invitation

[edit]

Greetings Hakeem.gadi-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:

Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. Request for translation

[edit]

I am writing this request because you are listed at Wikipedia:Translators available#Arabic-to-English. The text that I'm requesting a translation for is the following:

  • "ضابط يكشف "خطط تجسس" المراقبين الدوليين على سورية". Ad-Diyar (in Arabic). Beirut, Lebanon. June 9, 2012. Archived from the original on June 20, 2012. Retrieved June 20, 2012. {{cite news}}: Unknown parameter |deadurl= ignored (|url-status= suggested) (help); Unknown parameter |trans_title= ignored (|trans-title= suggested) (help)

The background for this request can be read here. I am preparing for a future discussion about this information at at WP:RSN, and from past experience with foreign-language sources I know that a qualified translation, not merely a machine Google translation, will be requested by the regular reviewers at that noticeboard.

Do note also that I have made this request with four other Arabic-to-English translators besides yourself as past experience is that most will not respond to this request, at least not in a timely fashion. Therefore, should you wish to offer yourself to this task, you should inform the other four so that they will know to disregard the request on their talk pages. You could also simply inform me that you will do the job and I can do the notifying. In any case, here are links to the four other requests:

Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa

[edit]

Hello,

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell@doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf@africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/

Tawfīq el-Hakīm

[edit]

I'm currently writing a short thesis on Tawfiq al-Hakim with a specialized focus on Fate of a Cockroach: Four Plays of Freedom. I am finding it rather difficult to find good sources in english and suspect that there is much more information on Tawfiq in arabic. Do you know of any good arabic websites where I might find good information on him. If you had some free time I would appreciate pointing me in the right direction as the information I have found so far seems to be lacking in many respects. Is this a possiblity?

Request for translation: List of sources for an article

Dear Hakeem,

On the Reference desk someone recommended using the list of translators in response to a request. Are you willing to translate portions of or all of the list of references on this page? es:Wikipedia discusión:Consultas de borrado/Liceo Mexicano Japonés? It is for an AFD on the Spanish Wikipedia. This is so Spanish-speaking editors can understand what Japanese references exist about the subject. You are welcome to translate the references into English.

Language-population update project

[edit]

Hi. The 18th edition of Ethnologue just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.

A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at Category:Language articles citing Ethnologue 17. The priority articles are in Category:Language articles with old Ethnologue 17 speaker data. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.

Probably 90% of the time, Ethnologue has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box. That will change the citation for the artcle to the current edition. Please put the data in the proper fields, or the info box will flag it as needing editorial review. The other relevant fields are "speakers" (the number of native speakers in all countries), "date" (the date of the reference or census that Ethnologue uses, not the date of Ethnologue!), and sometimes "speakers2". Our convention has been to enter e.g. "1990 census" when a census is used, as other data can be much older than the publication date. Sometimes a citation elsewhere in the article depends on the e17 entry, in which case you will need to change "name=e17" to "name=e18" in the reference tag (assuming the 18th edition still supports the cited claim).

Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by Ethnologue. Sometimes the data is too incompatible to add together (e.g. a figure from the 1950s for one country, and a figure from 2006 for another), in which case it should be presented that way. That's one use for the "speakers2" field. If you're not sure, just ask, or skip that article.

Data should not be displayed with more than two, or at most three, significant figures. Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by Ethnologue has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in Ethnologue, you might want to use the {{sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)

Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by Ethnologue and so is undated anyway.

If Ethnologue does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of Ethnologue, please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of Ethnologue that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.

The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the Ethnologue 17 citations are taken care of.

Jump in at the WP:LANG talk page if you have any comments or concerns. Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi Hakeem,

I hope you're well,

I was looking at Arabic-English translators and saw your name on the list and, fortuitously, saw that you are also Libyan therefore wanted to reach out and ask whether you'd ever heard of Ali Al-Biski and to see whether the sources that I have used in this article would count as verifiable or (ideally) if you could point me in the direction of a better source so that I can flesh out his page? I've been using some Google translate mostly therefore I'm not even sure if I've spelt his name/nickname right!

No worries if you don't have the time, I just thought there wouldn't be any harm in asking.

Many thanks for your help,
