Welcome!

[edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your recent contributions, such as your edit to the page Glasgow, have removed content without a good reason to do so. Content on Wikipedia should not be removed just because you disagree with it or because you think it's wrong, unless the claim is not verifiable. Instead, you should consider expanding the article with noteworthy and verifiable information of your own, citing reliable sources when you do so. If you'd like to experiment with the wiki's syntax, please do so in the sandbox rather than in articles. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Cheers! Control copyright icon Hello IsabellaWatson17! Your additions to Hutchesons' Grammar School have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Nthep (talk) 21:15, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem icon One of your recent edits has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information.

Again, you have added the same copyright violation text to the page. If you continue to ignore the policy of copyright violation, it can lead to a block of you account, or I'll need to protect the article.--Salix alba (talk): 21:01, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your concern about the copyright regrading the school website about houses and history but i do not understand why you are removing the tartan as the reference page is not copyrighted. IsabellaWatson17 (talk) 21:05, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So the copyright statement there is
Registration text - The text has been created by the Keeper of the Register from information supplied by the applicant. This text is subject to Crown copyright. You may re-use the Crown copyright protected text free of charge in any format and for any purpose. The text must be acknowledged as Crown copyright and you must give the source as the Scottish Register of Tartans.
Currently you have give the source as the Scottish Register of Tartans, but not acknowledged as Crown copyright. The policy for this material is WP:Crown copyright. Quite how to appropriately credit this tricky. You make everyones life a lot easier is if you get into the habit of rewriting text in your own words. --Salix alba (talk): 21:22, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ok thank you IsabellaWatson17 (talk) 21:41, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

August 2022

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Tacyarg. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Hutchesons' Grammar School, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 15:15, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, I see you have added the information about houses back to Hutchesons' Grammar School. This is unsourced and reads promotional - do you have a reliable source for it? Thanks, Tacyarg (talk) 11:58, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adding that you may find WikiProject Schools/Article advice helpful. Tacyarg (talk) 12:00, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
