Hey

Hope all is well. Thank you for your msg, I'll try to remember;). I mentioned you removed removed dispution for genetic section for Iranian people. May I ask why?

thank you for your fast respond! I actually put it up as I strongly disagree with its wording and sources used. I also took a look at other msg on discussion page, seemed a lot of people other than me had concerns about genetic section. My attempts to make some changes were not successful, so....

Anywho take care and good luck!--Ddd0dd (talk) 23:36, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Signature

Hi Nepaheshgar, just checking on a potential signature problem, as there is something in your signature that doesn't seem to be working properly. Could you please check its settings? You can do this by:

  • Click on "my preferences" at the top of the page
  • Look for the checkbox that says "Raw signature"
  • Ensure that the checkbox is not checked
  • Click "Save" at the bottom of the preferences page
  • Reply to my message here in the usual way, and sign with four tildes: ~~~~

Then I'll be able to check if it's working properly or not. Thanks, --Elonka 23:59, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent! Looks all fixed now, thanks. :) --Elonka 01:30, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Good job. You an zereshk do an excellent job on wikipedia. == Creating new articles ==(Kaveh94 (talk) 02:06, 7 October 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Hi

Hi Nepaheshgar,

me and a few other users are discussing the possible creation of 3 new articles:

That would also mean that the article Tajik will become solely an etymological article, explaining the historical and various meanings of the word.

What do you think? Please comment on my talk-page. Tājik (talk) 04:49, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now you're removing comments from your talk page?

If you say Herodotus said or the state department said, you don't need to have it sourced somewhere else. Herodotus is a famous historian of his time. If you push me I'm happy to add more sourced content in support of this content, but I'd rather just see it included as I'm working on other projects. You've been cutting out anything that's critical and adding very one sided nonsense about how slavery wasn't really so bad. This is an encyclopedia not a propaganda tool. Please stop removing sourced content and find sources for the content you want to add or that contradicts the sourced content added by others. Thank you. ChildofMidnight (talk) 08:12, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So the appropriate correction would be to say "according to herodotus" not to remove the entire section. That's one of the best sources we have on that period. And you say the state department is not neutral, but no one said they are neutral. All that's stated is that they list Iran as tier 3 etc. No one is trying to add smears, but this is notable content. ChildofMidnight (talk) 08:41, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds okay to me. I much prefer clarifications as appropriate to wholesale deletion. Herodotus, accurate or not, is a notable historian. I don't know that the tablets to which you refer are any more or less reliable. We have to use the best sources we have stating what the sources are (giving context) and what they say. The state department making accusations is notable. Whether they are true or not is another matter. I'm happy to include sources disputing their conslusions or discussing the politics involved (without getting too far afield). ChildofMidnight (talk) 08:48, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Indentured servitude and being held captive and forced to work is certainly a form of slavery. I'm flexible on how it's worded as long as it's accurate and included. These are real issues and I think it's appropriate to include them as they are notable and can be sourced. I'm sure there are third party sources discussing these issues if you'd like to research them more. I don't want to make a big deal out of them, I just want the content fairly included so readers are made aware of the statements and accusations, or positions if you will, of different parties. I've never objected to the statement that slavery is illegal although I think it's unsourced. I take it on good faith that it is true and suggest all of the article be improved with more and better references. I would like it to be written fairly and accurately based on the best sources available. ChildofMidnight (talk) 09:01, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure you want an article on that subject? ChildofMidnight (talk) 09:14, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

May I think about it? Thank you for the good discussion. I look forward to collaborating with you again soon. Good night, or good day I guess, to you. ChildofMidnight (talk) 09:22, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Thank you so much! I'm truly honored, I've always wanted to win a barnstar for Iranic heritage. You've made my night, thank you again! --pashtun ismailiyya 05:02, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, on an unrelated note, you should check this out: User_talk:Izady. Something makes me think that this could actually be Mehrdad Izady, something seems rather legitimate about the whole affair. Eick. --pashtun ismailiyya 05:08, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like a very good idea, though I am unsure how to go into the article. It seems Nasir Khusraw is two very different people. While we can admit Imam Ali was a saint for both Sunni and Shi'a, Nasir Khusraw is mainly an important writer to most, while an important holy figure for Ismailiyya, especially of Afghanistan (we are called Nasiriyya after him). I am also not sure, is his poetry widely read in Iran? He deals with many specific religious topics that could not fit in a Twelver worldview (while Kabir and Guru Nanak who's writings are imported into Iran are not so specific hence are more universal in their appeal) --pashtun ismailiyya 05:40, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Nepaheshgar, I just placed a message here which may interest you. Kind regards, --BF 02:24, 28 January 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Dear Nepaheshgar, thank you for your kind and prompt response; thank you also for welcoming me back. I do not know the person and have not read the book, however from my grandparents and the people of their generation I am aware of a very severe famine in Iran before 1920, leading to many deaths. As you have seen in my note to Samadi, I had already signalled a kink in the graph (months ago, long before having known about this book) that he had prepared on the population of Iran over the past 100-120 years. Technically, plotting the logarithm of those data by Samadi as a function of time and using the available data over the population growth rate around that time (i.e. 1920), it is rather straightforward to deduce a relatively reliable value for the number of people who have not survived the famine. Kind regards, --BF 07:27, 28 January 2009 (UTC).[reply]
Ps: This is the plot at issue: [1]. Please note the kink at 1921. Of course, since the previous measurement belongs to ten years earlier, the actual kink corresponds to a year between 1911 and 1921. --BF 07:33, 28 January 2009 (UTC).[reply]

I Need Some Help

Hi friend, I presume you are of Persian origin. If so I need your help with a word that is used in the Punjabi dictionary. The word is "Kuttha", meaning sacrificed or sacrificed meat. I was wondering whether such a word (or similar word) actually exists in the Persian dictionary. If it does, then what is the precise definition. Also which refernces could I use for the definition if I wanted to start an article on this? Cheers --Sikh-history (talk) 09:48, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

'Per talkpage'

Aha, cheers for the explanation. shellac (talk) 11:53, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Attar

I just noticed that you had moved the Attar article. I think the article's name should be "Farid ud-Din Attar". That's the most common version in English. Tajik (talk) 19:16, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Map

Hi. It was just a map uploaded by a user, which showed much of Kurdish areas as Turkic. I'm not sure if it deserves deletion as hardly anyone on wiki will accept such a senseless map to appear on any article. Ellipi (talk) 20:35, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Nepaheshgar, you might like to keep an eye on the above-indicated entry; I have placed two comments on the talk page of this entry (the last one in response to User:Ev). Kind regards, --BF 19:22, 13 March 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Thank you for your prompt response. Incidentally, please also add the "1975 Algiers Agreement" to your watch list. Something different: you may wish to read this. Kind regards, --BF 01:37, 14 March 2009 (UTC).[reply]
Dear Nepaheshgar, I also hereby send my best wishes to you and your dear family for the Nowruz.
Regarding, Arvand Rud, I have written some more comments both on the talk page of this entry and on the talk page of User:Alborz Fallah (that is here) which you may wish to peruse. I am now going to add more details, such as this one on both talk pages. With my warmest regards, --BF 14:58, 14 March 2009 (UTC).[reply]

RE:Nowruz

Thank you so much! And it seems to be such a beautiful day too, it's only fitting. Not only do I celebrate Nowruz as an Ismaili, but also as an Afghani. After the Soviets invaded, our entire nation was destroyed by the greatest power of its day. At the end of the war one out of every three Afghanis were not living in Afghanistan but outside the country in places like Iran and Pakistan (my family came as refugees to Pakistan prior to the war), and two million were further in Afghanistan but no longer in their own homes. Kandahar, once 200,000 strong, was reduced to around 10% of that population. One out of every three children did not survive childhood, and only around one out of every hundred children in Afghanistan were not malnourished. Then the Taliban came, banned Nowruz, and when they found out the Farsiwan poets wouldn't go along with their propaganda purposes, persecuted the poets. But, as Khorasani civilization has always fought, wrote poetry, in the vein of Khayyam I think, fighting against what unfortunately was essentially a Pashtun nationalist movement. Nowruz for Afghanistan has returned its original meaning of rebirth after death, that life constantly is created and saved by the Creator and this is a cycle that He will continue as long as He wills. Afghanis have been through so much and seen so much destruction, but we are still here today to celebrate this great day, and our children will be here to see it, and their children, and their children, insha'Allah. --pashtun ismailiyya 20:49, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nowruz mubarak! --pashtun ismailiyya 06:57, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:

Thanks for the prompt response. It is beyond a doubt that the name Bagrat is of Iranic origin and that is stated everywhere but beyond that we know very little. Of course given that the name is Iranic does not mean that the bearer of the name is Iranic right given that Iranic culture dominated the region since the Medes. Toumanoff and some others have suggested that they might have been an offshoot of the Orontids, whose Iranic origins beyond their names are recorded. Stating this alone without a redundancy should suffice don't you think? Regards.-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 19:41, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know some Armenians who identify themselves as worshippers of the cult of Mihr but i'm sure there are Orthodox Zoroastrians as well.-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 19:56, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There is absolutely no continuity between ancient pre-Christian Armenians and Arewordik or other groups. Modern Armenian pagans are very different from Parsi Zoroastrians in the sense that the Armenian pagans are romanticist, neo-pagans akin to those in Scandinavia or Russia. Their literature is mostly revolving around Mihr most likely because the only surviving temple in Armenia is Garni.
Re:Orontids. True regarding them but not their offshoots.-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 18:07, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Central Asia article intro

There's no question everything you added to the intro of Central Asian is sourced and good material. It's about how much and which material goes into the intro. Some of what you added is detailed historical information, which belongs perfectly in the history section (did you notice that I only moved it, not removed it?). For the intro only one or two summary sentences are needed for a subject dealt later with in the article. The info the specific historical groups (Sogdians, Chorasmians, Scythians, and Alans) belongs in the history section. See WP:Lead section for more info on this.

The first sentence "During pre-Islamic and early Islamic times, Central Asia was a predominantely Iranian region." has a few problems which I fixed before, and have fixed again. First, what is "Central Asia"? Some definitions, such as the UNESCO definition, include Mongolia, southern Siberia, and Tibet - and of course these were not "Iranian regions", hence the wording "southern Central Asia", in order to be more specific and accurate, while still giving just a general region. Second, saying it was a "predominantely Iranian region" is very vague and rather uninformative - what exactly makes it "Iranian"? My wording, "Ancient Iranian culture has played an important role in the history of southern Central Asia, and Iranian groups such as the Tajiks and Pamiris still reside in the region." more accurately explains what made it Iranian - the cultural heritage, historical legacy, and continuing presence of Iranian peoples. It combines the info from the first few sentences you wrote into once clear, concise sentence, more befitting of an intro section.

Finally, the wording I fixed (for sentences both on the Iranians and the Turks) is simply to improve the the English and flow of the article - no information has been changed, and it simply makes the article and the information more accessible, organized, and clear. Iranian languages map

Can you please not change it back to the old map. This map is better sourced and going to be edited soon. Thanks. Azalea pomp (talk) 04:18, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I actually am the original creator of both maps. So I know the hard work that went into them. The new map is not finished yet, but is going to be fixed with additions. :) Azalea pomp (talk) 04:22, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Qom is not shown as Central Iranian, but near Qom is such as south of Qom in Mahallat. Azalea pomp (talk) 04:27, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tati languages

Thanks for the suggestions. I will be making changes. Keep in mind there are two kinds Tati languages. First, the Tati languages of Iran are in the Talysh branch (Northwest branch of Western Iranian). The Izady map lists these as Southern Tat. The second group of Tati languages which are spoken in Azerbaijan/Caucasus (the Judeo-Tat and the Muslim Tat) are more closely related to Persian in the Southwest branch of Western Iranian. On the new map, the Southern Tati is not distinguished from Talysh as they are in the same group. Azalea pomp (talk) 04:41, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree Qazvin and the areas need to be fixed. This is why it is good to have input to fix the maps and make them better. :) Azalea pomp (talk) 04:46, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Check out the newest section of the talk page of Iranian languages thanks Azalea pomp (talk) 04:49, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nazar

Hi Ali. I hope you are fine. Have you seen this?! I am sure that the claim that this is only a tradition in Turkey is wrong. Millions of peoples in Iran, Afghanistan, and elsewhere have the same belief. The word itself is Arabic. Do you have any sources for this? The article needs to be corrected. Tajik (talk) 00:54, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I do not think that the name is important, because the Arabic "Nazar" is better known and the common word for it all across the Islamic world. But the information in the article should be changed. Tajik (talk) 15:35, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for your efforts with this article. I am taking the opportunity to redirect Origins of the Kurds. Please do see whether there is anything worth transferring to the history article (or perhaps a "genetics" section at Kurds, or a "Kurds" section at Archaeogenetics of the Near East) here. --dab (𒁳) 18:24, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir, As there is no guideline for "Iran related articles", I created the above page. Can you please help me in completing it. -Thank you --Wayiran (talk) 20:06, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have updated this article. I am not sure about its Persian version, but you should also update that one. The German version is already corrected. Take care. Tajik (talk) 18:38, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It appears as though I didn't get some of the disam links correct. I apologize for that. I do want to say, though, that if you can fix the links so they go to the right place, that'd be great. Otherwise, we end up with them just pointing to a disam page, which we want to avoid at all costs. There has to be a suitable article somewhere, I'd think. --User:Woohookitty Diamming fool! 10:38, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did stop disamming the term, btw. Obviously I know less about it than I thought. --User:Woohookitty Diamming fool! 10:39, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. :) Actually it was another user User:Alefbe, alerted me about it and he didn't say which ones were mistakes. So here are the ones I changed to Pahlavi language: Middle Iranian languages, India-Iran relations. Looks like you fixed the rest of them. I do really appreciate this. --User:Woohookitty Diamming fool! 11:23, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Ahmad Ghazali requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Hi. With regard to our discussion about Albania being a vassal state or not, here's another source which pretty much confirms what Wiesehofer was saying: The Cambridge history of Iran, Volume 1 by Ehsan Yarshater I think this allows us to include that Albania was a vassal state of Sasanian empire, and not just a province. What do you think? Regards, Grandmaster 11:12, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added the info about the vassal state, since the term is used in a number of reliable sources. However, I agree that we lack a detailed info about that period. I think marzban ruled the region after the Albanian Arcasid dynasty became extinct. Before that Albanians had the monarchy. So in different periods Albania was ruled by kings and marzbans. I think if we find better sources about that, we can always add them. Thanks. Grandmaster 05:28, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

:(

I have found more Turkish cultural heritage sites that repeat these claims, along with other figures such as Suhrawardi and Attar! It is very displeasing and shameful that they [Turkish government/"scholars with PhD's" would produce such lies, especially given the number of scholastic works such as Britanica, Encycl. Islam, Iranica that say otherwise...And when you try to criticize they will simply say that nationalism is shallow and goes against their teachings...I wish they would get their own historical figures and stop stealing Iran's heritage figures. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ditc (talkcontribs) 08:23, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Inquiry

Vali Nasr (son of Islamic/Sufi expert Seyyed Hossein Nasr), in his book 'Shia Revival', states that when modern day Karbala was formed, 75% of the inhabitants were Iranian, who gradually became 'Arabized' over the centuries and integrated or accepted Iraqi nationalism over time. Have you read or ever heard of anything like this?

"Mogh o Mosalman" and "Arab o Ajam" by Asadi Tusi

Hi!

I'm very curious about the content of these two debate poems, about which I learnt from your extensive contributions to the article Asadi Tusi. I was wondering whether you might know of some place online where they are available - preferably in translation, though I would also try my hands in "deciphering" the original.

Best,

Forgotten live languages

Please let me know that how the new language Wikipedias to be created? There are plenty of modern articles on Pahlavi, Tat, Talish languages. Wikipedia supports many more or less popular languages. However, some Iranic languages are being forgotten. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias_by_language_family#Iranian_languages_.28139.2C461_.E2.80.93_9_.E2.80.93_9_.E2.80.93_68.31.25.29--Faikpro (talk) 11:03, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, in case I start to translate one of your articles on Persian poems, I will need your help and explanations. Do you have time to give me your kind assistance? Best wishes, -- Zara-arush (talk) 23:15, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please, look at the Russian translation in the article. I tried to keep the rhyme. I will ask you to write about your opinion, if I got the meanings. Thanks for your assistance, -- Zara-arush (talk) 19:11, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Please reply, if I rendered correctly the name of the anthology: I understand (Joy of Gatherings) the word "gathering" as "meeting", "assembly" - joy of meeting other people. Or it is - "collection" - joy of the process of collecting poems in the manuscript? Thank you very much in advance, -- Zara-arush (talk) 20:39, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:PersepolistwoPersianSoldiers.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:PersepolistwoPersianSoldiers.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 16:19, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
