Do you think it is the man himself who has just dropped past? YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) paid editing=POV 06:05, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would not want to say that it definitely is him (although the tone of the writing is familiar), however it is certainly by someone who is writing with his interests in mind. It is obvious that a lot of work has gone into the additions and large additions of new text from an editor without any past contributions history should be treated with some level of vigilance and prudence before accepting unexamined. I suggest the COI noticeboard may be a location for further discussion and advice, especially as you and I are past contributors to the article and could be seen as having a particular POV. Being a BLP (and taking into account the past history of the article), we probably should err on the side of caution on this. I do think the contributing editor should at least be asked if there is a conflict that he/she needs to declare and invited to participate at WP:COIN. -- Mattinbgn\talk 07:54, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I did email this editor asking if he had a conflict of interest a couple of hours back. Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 08:24, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely him. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) paid editing=POV 01:27, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If a Wikipedia user looks up Playboy writer to use as a source to prove how good a certain cricket writer is, then the user is probably the subject himself who kept news/mag cuttings of praise of himself in a folder. Who else would look up playboy and porn magazines to find out information about cricket history? And if the original motive was an interest in pornography, I doubt it would suddenly motivate them to look up and write a 100k cricket history article. Personally I also wonder what inside knowledge they would need to know the subject's university results. Who else would use and search for an ancient playboy magazine as a source. The user must know that a certain playboy magazine praised Perry, so it is probably Perry himself who kept a cutting of Playboy praising him. What kind of a cricket researcher would look up playboy for info? YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) paid editing=POV 01:27, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't really matter if it is him or not, our response should be the same; the added material is puffery and written in Perry's interest and not from a neutral point of view, i.e. Where advancing outside interests is more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia, that editor stands in a conflict of interest. thus WP:COI still applies. It is not against policy (it is only strongly discouraged) to write about yourself, but if you do then then it should be written in a neutral tone and cite reliable, third-party published sources, and avoid unintentional bias. The new material is cited, but it is not written in a neutral tone and adds bias. If he wants to progress this further, then COIN is probably the best bet. -- 09:11, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Re: Advice

[edit]

Hi Haruspex101. Before continuing to edit the Perry article I would suggest reading Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, in particular the section dealing with articles about yourself.

You may also wish to consult Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help.

One last piece of advice, I would also read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. The last is official Wikipedia policy and will be enforced. -- Mattinbgn\talk 11:49, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mattinbgn, Thankyou for you message. I have made the following disclosures at Roland_Perry#Dispute_resolution
{extract}
Haruspex101 Arrives:
o Is not Roland Perry
o Has worked with Tim Burstall and Roland Perry on film development projects
o Is a novice Wikipedia editor. Has never added Wikipedia content before, and would welcome assistance with the technical aspects of doing so.
o Collated factual sourced material on Roland Perry and posted this on Wikipedia in July 2009 using journalistic style to bridge the sourced material and some opinion. Material is not contested by Roland Perry, even though it includes a good deal of sourced criticism of Roland Perry along with the overwhelming positive reviews of Roland Perry’s broad writing career which includes journalism and 22 published books on US politics, British espionage and history (WW1), along with a variety of biography, fiction as well as cricket history.

Roland Perry: Whole Article Deletion by YellowMonkey User

Hello Mattinbgn, I Posted NPOV revised-edits on content of Roland Perry (an internationally published author with 22 books). Content is balanced with appropriately sourced reviews (including criticism).

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Roland_Perry&oldid=301966078

YellowMonkey deletes entire changes without comment:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Roland_Perry&diff=301966340&oldid=301966078

Dispute obviously requires independent intervention for resolution. I am a novice user. YellowMonkey is a highly experienced user. Some help to bridge the technical-skill divide is required and would be greatly appreciated.

Investigation into YellowMonkey Conflicts of Interest (COI) are also required.

I suggest the following...

The Way Forward:

o Revert to:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Roland_Perry&oldid=301966078

o YellowMonkey please fully declare any Conflicts of Interest.

o Replace outdated first bio intro paragraph with the following... as attempted:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Roland_Perry&diff=301966803&oldid=301966340

Dispute Resolution: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Roland_Perry&oldid=301969811

I am not well equiped to action this myself so would appreciate help as to how I effectively request intervention (moderation?) from an experienced Administrator.

And there is also content that is still posted on various pages that maligns Roland Perry, some of which I have already identified in my previous posts (see my contribution History) that should be removed immediately.

This is all quite disappointing for a newbie user to Wikipedia.

You have been given advice several times by several editors now about what would be the appropriate process, check your talk page history. What will not help your cause is making unfounded assertions of conflicts of interest against established editors and shopping around for someone sympathetic to your case. If you do not start addressing the concerns raised in a reasonable manner rather than dealing with conspiracy theories, there is little I can do to help. -- Mattinbgn\talk 02:03, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Archaic d00d

[edit]

I wasn't even aware he'd been blocked or had been making catty remarks on the talk page - I think I may have taken it off my watchlist at some point.

However, upon catching up on that talk page, I think it's pretty clear that this guy isn't going to turn into a constructive editor anytime soon. He struck me initially as your garden variety POV pusher, but his language on that page, and his reaction to being blocked for it, suggests that booting him out the door was probably a bright idea on the part of whoever did it. Rebecca (talk) 05:55, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I blocked him and I am not keen on unblocking unless there is some motive to change. -- Mattinbgn\talk 07:30, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just wondering if EhuangZhang = Archaic_d00d simply based on EhuangZhang's appearance at Talk:Matthew Johns following on from their "arguing" at Talk:Sex and intelligence and their partiality to "coward" references and similar line of insult:
  • [1] Are we becoming a nation of cowards?
  • [2] snivelling little coward.
  • [3] EhuangZhang's personal attack at Talk:Matthew Johns - and very first contribution to that article/talk page.
Of course, they may just be birds of a feather.  florrie  07:01, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Verrrry interesting, certainly enough there for an investigation. Thanks, Mattinbgn\talk 07:30, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd thought pretty much the same thing. Their editing times also seemed to coincide nicely - for example, both stopped editing on the 5th of June, with only one edit by Archaic d00d on the 26th, before they both start editing again within a day of each other on the 10th and 11th of July. I'd considered a checkuser, but was waiting to see what eventuated. I think there's enough with their editing times to create enough for a check, though. btw, sorry you got stuck with this, Mattinbgn. I was hoping that polite suggestions would head things off, but no. - Bilby (talk) 08:39, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seems someone on the parliamentary IP doesn't like your image of her! They really shouldn't meddle with things like that... Timeshift (talk) 11:36, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, not sure why. I don't think it's a particularly unflattering picture of her. In fact, I actually think it is pretty good. The other photo uploaded on the same day, File:MarkArbibJerilderieLibraryOpening.JPG, is not half as good IMO. Certainly I think my piccy is better than most of her that appear in the Border Mail. Perhaps someone at PH may prefer to upload their own freely licenced image of the subject for use here ... -- Mattinbgn\talk 11:43, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Somehow I doubt they'd want to give up a picture of their own. I suspect they don't want any image of her there as it gives her article more credibility, and we know MPs don't like giving wikipedia any oxygen. Timeshift (talk) 11:45, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indo-Australian Relations

[edit]

Please justify your actions for acting as the sole owner of this page. Furthermore, please explain your comment "Your assumptions of superiority".

Explain also without citation or relevance the addition of Common Law in the text and eminently claiming it to be "Yes it is".

Please also explain why you should not be banned?

You have still not explained your insulting remarks and personal attacks. Mind I remind history? Your lack of citations and removing wordings taken directly from source are making you a vandal on this page.

The only person acting as sole owner of this page is you. Your assumption of Indian superiority is made quite clear in this edit. It is entirely irrelevant when naming an article. As for being "banned" (I assume you mean blocked) I suggest you look in the mirror. Your blatant POV pushing, misrepresentation of sources and hostile attitude are unacceptable. Please cease. -- Mattinbgn\talk 04:34, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your continued unjustified results are enough for the moment. This would be my last discussion in your page. I clearly mentioned the use of adjective "Indo" like Sino for India related matters. The one who has been racist and assumed superiority. Your mention of your own superiority is clear in the page's history itself. I am going through with the procedures of block when I have time. As for looking into the mirror, that remark proves your own unjustified slur and egotism.

Thank you for rescuing this article. I have withdrawn the AfD. I42 (talk) 08:36, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GLAM-Wikimedia Australia

[edit]

Hi Matt, do you know about Wikimedia Australia's GLAM conference set for 6-7 August to meet with representatives of Australian galleries, libraries, archives and museums? There's a number guest speakers lined up including politicians and international WMF representatives. I've just signed up and Bidgee may be coming from this part of the world also. There are a number of other wikipedians from across the country (who you know personally) coming so it would be a chance for you to meet them - not to mention yours truly.

I have offered Bidgee a lift there and back and I have room for up to 5 inclusive of myself - so if you feel like going and can get to Wagga Wagga the night before I'd be pleased to take you the rest of the way; and of course get you back to Wagga Wagga on the Friday afternoon. Indeed you'd be more than welcome to stay at my (me and mine's) place the evening before. At this stage it's my intention to leave very early (4.30am or so) to travel to Canberra on the day of the conference. I can't help you with accommodation but the Australian chapter have arranged a number of discounted rates near the venue and if Bidgee can go perhaps the two of you can share a room. The schedule is here and you can read about the conference here. I am told by Sarah that contributors of Australian images and other content are very welcome - and quite frankly you are clearly within that list. Apparently Wikimedia Australia is also offering bursaries to help defray expenses for Wikimedians wishing to attend. Let me know generally here or at my talk page; and if you can go and want to take me up on offers of accommodation and travel then we can converse the private material on email - I can also let you know the account names of who else is coming so you know who from the project you will get the chance to meet.--VS talk 01:39, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's a real shame, Matt. It would have been great to see you there. There will be other opportunities though, I'm sure and we're considering doing a Wikimania type of conference also so hopefully you'll be able to come along to something else in the future. AusWikiConf_2009. Cheers, Sarah 10:02, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I presume you couldn't find sources for Ruth Strauss? LibStar (talk) 03:20, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't look, but thanks for inquiring. Expressing an opinion on whether an article should be kept does not make one responsible for adopting the article. If nominators stuck to nominating articles for deletion based on policy and guidelines and refrained for making personal judgements about the subjects of articles, the whole AfD process would be a lot smoother. Again, thanks for dropping by. -- Mattinbgn\talk 08:57, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't suggesting that you adopt the article, but I thought as an experienced editor as yourself you would know that to further a keep argument in an unreferenced article you would need to provide reliable sources. I've seen time and time again, people vote !keep at unreferenced articles without providing a shred of evidence of third party coverage. LibStar (talk) 09:01, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A lesson learned by myself. If you stubbornly insist on maintaining an extreme POV and cry "racist" against those attempting to maintain some sense of balance, you will be rewarded and moral equivalence will be drawn between the two. As is sadly typical, article content (and WP policy, and AfD discussions ...) is determined by those least willing to reason with others. My patience with WP is running thin. Proposal

[edit]

Since January 2008 last year, I've been fed up of the flame-fanning by sections of the media, over events involving bad behaviour by a small number of individuals, mainly for personal gain of the belligerents and perpetuated by tabloid (and some allegedly broadsheet) media. Have you ever been to an internet cricket forum and noticed the increase in us vs them rubbish since 2008? Before I only noticed Pakistanis and Indians sledging each other about issues outside of sport, but now the India v Australia one is much worse (at least on the BBC one). At the same time I see some of them cite some of the better and sourced Wikipedia cricket articles, including some GA/FAs to back up their sporting arguments. So in theory, if we develop these bilateral articles with sensible stuff, we can help to purge the sensationalist rubbish that has been drummed into a lot of people's heads by the media, who are trying to spin every cheap shot by any old criminal or cricketer seeking to get around the rules into a war.... I hope to god I never see another x -y relations article. Ikip (talk) 14:43, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Noticed the comment and was going to revert but thought "Meh, best left untouched, or it will be another Wiki drama" and went and did something else. Been a busy day (studying and popping on Wiki during my breaks), missing to see (photograph) a roll over as well as a 5 car pile-up (sticky beaks too bust looking at the roll over and not the road) and to top it off my bus had issues (Since it was heading back to depot/base and passing my house I got to get off earlier then normal). Hrm oh dear, I've gone off topic.... Bidgee (talk) 13:52, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tom Roberts photos

[edit]

Marvellous! I was surprised to find that hardly any artwork articles existed, eg the famous Pioneer one by McCubbin. Too bad I was so hopeless at drawing at school YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 02:04, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks YM. My interest in art is limited and my knowledge sketchy at best but there are actually some reasonable tertiary sources about. Like you, I was shocked that there were virtually no Australian artwork articles on Wiki. I stumbled upon the theme when looking for an article on "Shearing the Rams" for my own interest and was stunned to see that it did not exist! I initially planned to spin off a quick stub but the whole thing sucked me in a bit; it has been a lot of fun to develop these into reasonable shape. It has however, distracted me for my other projects (and my paid employment!). Any plans for FA/GA would require much higher quality sources, however.
I do plan to introduce a cricket theme; I have a rough idea in my head for an article on The cricketers by Russell Drysdale! (see here) Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 02:23, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The current sources will pass GA, they're hardly amateur websites YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 07:25, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but I am always a little suspicious of articles with all-web sourcing. To me it seems as if the literature review was a google search (which would be true in my case)! -- Mattinbgn\talk 07:31, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ponting

[edit]

Being a fan of him, are you interested in FAC some time, an maybe a few forks as well. There's two people working on it now, AC's efforts tempted me in although I generally don't like to write about current players, although Ponting must be 80% done by now anyway. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 08:16, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I'll be in that. I must admit however that I enjoy working on the old players much more. The research on the old players always turns up something interesting which makes it fun, while with the current players, it is more about keeping out the trivia. The vandalism and POV pushing on players like Ponting makes it frustrating too. But, why not give it a go ... -- Mattinbgn\talk 08:28, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The witty characters sometimes fill in edit summaries saying "removed vandalism" or "cleaned up" while they have some fun with articles, which is annoying. Especially with AFL article as they often remain unwatched. Didn't notice the Australian Captain Featured Topic drive. Is this old? Therefore put on the back burner? Aaroncrick (talk) 08:39, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, it is still going, just slowly. Kim Hughes was my last project, which I will pick up again some time. My interest levels go up and down at times ... -- Mattinbgn\talk 08:55, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not the only one. ;) Have you read 'Golden boy: Kim Hughes and the bad old days of Australian cricket'? Aaroncrick (talk) 08:59, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

‎:::::Yep, based most of the article on it. Great read and makes you wonder how the whole Lillee Marsh thing went on so long. Very sad episode and certainly made me think again about two supposed legends of the game. -- Mattinbgn\talk 09:09, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah disappointing really. Haven't read the book and only heard the interview with the author. Have become interested with Lillee as I've got the same problem with my back as he does. Don't know much about Marsh as I wasn't around to remember him. Aaroncrick (talk) 09:58, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I thought it was well known that Chappell*2, Lillee, Thomson and Marsh were not pleasant people, although that era was generally rather feral, there were horrendously regular brawls in football and rugby league as well.

Finished the Test stuff. Everything there is covered in some way at least, although there maybe some important things missing. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 03:55, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About vandalism, you should just s-lock it. I lock quite liberally when there are a few. There's nothing wrong with doing it liberally. Nishkid and I lock every article edited by an IP of htebanned Nangparbat (talk · contribs), about 100+ plus, maybe 200+ by now YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 07:12, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody's going to complain, you've only done 20 sprotects this year. There was only a few vandalisms at Nguyen Van Thieu but I sprotected that because nobody watches it and it can easily live for more than a day. And a few others. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 07:15, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disruption of WP:TFD and the Pump

[edit]

Please stop disrupting discussion pages. Under Wikipedia policy, such behaviour can lead to blocking of editing privileges. Repeating the same false statements and accusations everywhere is not considered acceptable behaviour. 81.111.114.131 (talk) 05:25, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If they are false, address the falsities rather than continuing to remove them. Your unwillingness to discuss the issue in a wider format is telling. -- Mattinbgn\talk 07:36, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In no way were Mattinbgn's (or so far, anyone else's) contributions disruptive. Warnings like this are hard to take seriously - it comes down to "you disagree with me, therefore you're wrong". Orderinchaos 08:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note, the IP who posted it has since been blocked for disruption. --Sb617 (talk · contribs) 08:20, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Noted, but I will add that I am comfortable with that editor being unblocked and permitted to have their say at the Pump so long as they in turn understand that I am also entitled to have my say in a polite and reasonable manner, whether they agree with my point of view or not. -- Mattinbgn\talk 08:25, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. I would personally like to see any issues the IP has (if he's unblocked) on the discussion. He does bring up some good points. --Sb617 (talk · contribs) 08:35, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Apart from occasional minor displays of arrogance, the IP has not done anything substantially wrong and with his (presumed his) statement that he will not revert talk edits as he did at the pump, I see no problem with unblocking him either. Hell I wouldn't mind seeing a few of them on the IAP talk page, if they have good ideas which would improve and streamline the template (eg the ordering, making the dot maps easier/more consistent to use etc) I'm happy to hear them. Orderinchaos 08:53, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A good admin would not resort to canvassing votes from the village pump either.... Himalayan 10:49, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't call that canvassing, It's not like Mattinbgn is flooding talk pages and asking for keeps, but informing and discussing those who may be interested or unaware of the TfD but it's up to the user to state keep or delete. I suggest that you start discussing before norm'ing templates and stop the bad faith. Bidgee (talk) 10:56, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh. Firstly WP:CANVASS is the worst guideline that currently exists on this encyclopedia and its abolition is long overdue. It is a recipe for ignorance and the continued control of key components of the encyclopedia by cliques. There should be more invitations to discussions, not less. Secondly, shedding some daylight on the happenings at TfD is not canvassing, it is doing what you should have done in the first place. That is, seeking wider consensus for your proposal to replace all regional infoboxes with IS, rather than seeking to cherry pick them off one-at-a-time. Why you and the other proponents of this IS standardisation program are so unwilling to participate in a wider discussion is beyond me. -- Mattinbgn\talk 11:02, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK. In good faith, can you please adapt your Aussie template to include a decent quality svvg pin locator map, either national or regional. A map including in a geo template is a basic requirement whether or not the Aussie tmeplate is better suited to its purpose than a standard template. I am not trying to bully anyway, I do a lot of work referencing and adding coordintes/maps to places around the world and what promoted me was the inability to add a locator map to some of the Australian place articles. If you could include the map displayed here into your Aussie template I'd be much happier with the condition. I think those beige spot maps should be rmeoved in favour of a quality pin svg within the template not outside...Do I have a point about a map, evne if you disagree with type of infobox? Of late when you clickt the globe often because of the server it greys out or takes a while to load. ALl I ask is for you to add a pushpin_map=Australia (or if somebody would kindly make some quality regional svg maps like Template:Location map Australia Queensland for instance) that they by included within your infoboxes. Perhaps taking it straight to TFD was not the solution but ironically it was I who thought I would be bullied away from the Australian noticeboard not vice versa... Himalayan 12:01, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am not a technical editor and I have no idea how to add any fields and/or functions to IAP. Previously, editors seeking changes to IAP—Australian or otherwise—made their request at Template talk:Infobox Australian Place and if there was consensus for the change, then one of the editors with the required technical knowledge would make the change. I suggest that a similar request there would be looked at favourably. -- Mattinbgn\talk 12:08, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK thanks, I appreciate your response. I certainly do not think you are all unreasonable, I understand that you are all more accustomed to that template than I had thought. All I'd like to do is to be able to simply add a nice locator map to it!! It is a little frustrating not being able to edit it simply and trying to figure out how to add a map! That's why I nominated it, sorry for the conflict, genuinely. I didn't realise how many people felt so strongly about it.... If somebody could add a pushpin_map=Australia option and normal coordinates into the template to display a map I have no major problems. I think this can be discussed now at the Aussie noticeboard or whatever without hostility. I do mean good faith as difficult as it might seem to be to you but it would have been best in this circumstance to disucss it at the noticeboard first. I'll post to orderinchaos too to show that I am not against you all as it seems, I would just simply like to be able to add a location map and simple coordinates without having to work out x and y pins. Best regards Himalayan 13:06, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

BTW I have removed my comments from the TFD and will withdraw the nomination if you can kindly discuss this with me and ensure this is installed. I just believe it was a clash of customs, you are accustomed to editing this template, I'm not, and basically I just wanted to contribute to the Aussie articles by adding a decent locator map for towns and remove the old dot maps. My intentions are right even if you disgreed with the way I addressed it initially. Himalayan 13:36, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New pin maps

[edit]
Just an update to note I am looking into this issue when I get home this evening (WA time). If someone else wants to beat me to the punch, be my guest - the discussion on my own talk page with Himalayan contains two exemplars from elsewhere which may be useful. Orderinchaos 03:41, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good. Surat, Queensland looks fine now I think. If we can get hold of some svgs in due course this will be even better. Himalayan 12:16, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GANGgajang

[edit]

Have noticed that an editor, User:Nouse4aname, has recently moved GANGgajang to Ganggajang, when I attempted to revert the move the user cited 'Correct capitalisation as per WP:MOSTM and WP:NC'. I've checked WP:NC and it would appear that based on the overarching objectives, using the most easily recognized name; using the mane most prevalent in reliable sources; and using the name most readers are likely to search by that the article should be GANGgajang not Ganggajang. I've also had a look at WP:NC (common names) which would seem to support my view - anyhow I was hoping that some people who are older and wiser than me might be able to give some clear directions on the correct name for this article. Dan arndt (talk) 08:09, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have hit upon one of my pet hates, editors letting wikipedia policy override what happens in the real world. Unfortunately it looks as if the policy wonks have had another victory over common sense, sigh... -- Mattinbgn\talk 11:48, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Push pin maps in infobox

[edit]

Read about it this morning but totally forgot about it (Telstra has stuffed up and disconnected [and still is but my ADSL is still working *touch wood*] my home phone *sigh*) as it's been a rather full on day (At TAFE and dealing with Telstra during my lunch break and even after getting home). Cheers for reminding me! Bidgee (talk) 11:05, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've only been adding them randomly but I'll probably done for now though. I'll was hoping that while I was in Temora to get a few photos of the town but ran out of time. Bidgee (talk) 12:30, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was in Temora the weekend before last but had no time at all for photos unfortunately. There are some quite striking buildings there. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 12:32, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well I spent too much time at the TMA and left at about 4pm (wanted to get home before dark). There are a lot of photogenic buildings in the town itself. I was also hoping to get photos of the state highways but again time was the issue but hoping to be back there in the next few weeks. Bidgee (talk) 21:54, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Keep up the good work on adding the push pin maps! You might need a few of these on a rather warm day like today ;). I'm off to smash my dead camera (Why you may ask, It died when I zoomed in to get a photo of a Rakali and isn't worth fixing after emailing Samsung! [So much for warranty *sigh*] I payed $150 for it and it lasted just over 4 months!). Bidgee (talk) 06:31, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bugger ... Little portable cameras are almost becoming disposable items nowadays, even with warranty. Definitely beer drinking weather here, I reckon it climbed into the the 30s today, with a wicked north west wind. Not good for the canola ... Good luck with the Rakali spotting! Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 07:07, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yer, I'm happy my DSLR is going ok (I've had it for 2 years so far) with just dust spots and 4 dead pixels (Taken over 10,000 images though). I'll be staying away from Samsung for now on as their products are nothing but crap that doesn't last, I've got a budget of $100 for a new camera but none are in that price range (and that money was for my WA trip). Just like having a compact digital camera as it's easy to carry, you can't save the DSLR from over use and it's convenient. Well got to 29c here though Deni got 32c! Bloody unheard of in early September! Grass is drying out and it wont be long before the crops will be the same. Bidgee (talk) 10:36, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Lucky weather. Been having unheard of amounts of rain down here! Aaroncrick (talk) 12:45, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
While nice to have some warmth I'm getting get sick of the unheard of amounts rain (IE: bugger all, been some time since I've heard of 10mm let alone 20mm+). Going on a ride on Sunday I'm shocked to see how bad it is! This crop is height just over my ankles (Approx 10-15cm but should be getting up to my hips which is about ~0.5-1m) yet just a few k's away another crop is in worse condition and riddled with Capeweed (Sometimes incorrectly named as Wet-the-beds as it's Taraxacum officinale which has that name) [The yellow (Expect may be the yellow to the far left behind the gums) is Capweed and not Canola a bit like these paddocks)] but what's worse is to see the Red River Gums that have been around since our grandparents (or even earlier) dyeing back. Also it was lucky that my sixth gear broke about 6k from home as I did a 24k right so it would have been bad if it was halfway (See more about that at I've done a first!). Bidgee (talk) 15:50, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's a shame. There was a reasonable start to the season here but July/August have been terrible. A little north of here around Oaklands etc. there are some good patches and to the south in Vic. it doesn't look too bad but here it is terrible. A lot of roadside trees here are really struggling this year. Nice photos by the way. Shame about the gear but at least 6kn isn't all that far! Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 22:23, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yer, Seen it happen for too long! Surely there has to be a really good season! Thanks, One of my aims was to get a photo of a small mud brick house but not much is left now unlike about 5 years ago. :( Yer a 6k walk is better then a 10k! Bidgee (talk) 12:07, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
