Sock?

[edit]

Regarding this edit, who is this IP a sock of? We've been having issues with the user edit warring on another article. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 17:49, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The IP is most likely a sock of User:Vintagekits, or an account that was taught to be his but failed SPI User:MFIreland, thin evidence these were linked. Here was the last SPI filing on MFIreland, and here is a very helpful list relating to the edits carried out by MFIreland and possible socks, which shows the long term abuse pattern. Unsourced

[edit]

Hi Murry, you've restored unsourced material back to Unionism in Ireland. If you can't reference it, it can't stay. Gob Lofa (talk) 17:20, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lapsed, long time, all good? You wording was, well, crap, what are constitutional nationalist? I missed Robert Emmets removal, he was indeed a protestant republican. What part would you like a source for, tag and I will try to find one for you. Murry1975 (talk) 17:33, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Your commentary is still interesting, if not always clear. You've really never heard the phrase 'constitutional nationalist'? I removed uncited material; whatever you want to keep, you may source. Gob Lofa (talk) 17:48, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Under one constitutional national government, but used to describe two nationalist under two different constitutions (Uk and Ireland ones) what does it mean? Murry1975 (talk) 18:24, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
One more time? Gob Lofa (talk) 14:59, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have answered (presuming you mean " You've really never heard the phrase 'constitutional nationalist'?" as it was the only question that you could possibly be repeating, but then again), and asked a question. Murry1975 (talk) 19:30, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Is it a yes or a no answer? Gob Lofa (talk) 15:43, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Lapsed are you having difficulty in following linear conversations? Murry1975 (talk) 19:14, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Let's try it from another angle. What did you mean by 'what are constitutional nationalist?' Gob Lofa (talk) 19:49, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You still have not managed to answer my question
"Under one constitutional national government, but used to describe two nationalist under two different constitutions (Uk and Ireland ones) what does it mean?"
Noiw Lapsed pacifist you can either answer or just go away and edit the Corrib article. Murry1975 (talk) 19:54, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to have more than one wire crossed here. I've no idea how to interpret your question. Gob Lofa (talk) 20:02, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

you keep taking down my yola posts

[edit]

murray why do you keep taking down my yola language posts? Yola12345 (talk) 10:44, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In placenames, we only use English and Irish, unless the name is derived from another language (Wexford is a good example). Don't keep adding Yola names in modern named articles (the Irish Sea), the is a manual of style, WP:MOS and a dedicated Irish one WP:IMOS. Murry1975 (talk) 19:32, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bryan Bryne & MOS

[edit]

Saw your recent edit to Bryan Byrne. Curious as to where this MOS reference resides. Surely as someone who lives in Ireland, you know the distinct difference between Ireland, Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland. I've never seen birth attribution to an island/geographic location vs. the actual governmental state in which they were born under. Can you point me in the right direction? GauchoDude (talk) 12:57, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WP:IRE-IRL, is the piece. Ireland is the name of the state and island, ROI is where the article is at. Murry1975 (talk) 14:02, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Murry1975: Perfect! I had not seen that before, thanks for sharing! GauchoDude (talk) 14:51, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User page vandalism

[edit]

I appreciate you looking out for the vandal on my user page (curious how you noticed it, but no mind.) It's only one user who is hopping on 2 IPs. I can handle him. But much appreciated. Canterbury Tail talk 01:33, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have your page on my watchlist, I add talkpages of editors when I post on them so I am notified of a reply. Murry1975 (talk) 09:59, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Thanks for the lookout again. Canterbury Tail talk 12:10, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Fassbender?

[edit]

Hi Murray, please don't feel the need to correct someone who says that they're Irish from being that way. Yes, he's German born but identifies himself as being an Irish person. He's Irish born, raised, educated, lived most his life, parents still live there. It's not a technicality like say, Jimmy Carr, having Irish parents; he's still English. I have a girlfriend with a German father, she's not identified as German-Irish or Irish-German. This is more relevant in the USA no doubt, where many are from 2 places, living in a third. Please leave this as it is, thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.107.234.101 (talk) 16:05, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy Carr is Irish-British in his article. "he's German born but identifies himself as being an Irish person" well in his own words "I suppose the German side wants to keep everything in control, and the Irish side wants to wreak havoc!". He was NOT born in Ireland, West Germany actually. You have a girlfriend, well done, I was worried about you. Murry1975 (talk) 18:30, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I never said that he was Irish born. He's an Irish person. Stop trying to annoy other people please, just leave the article as it is. I'm not taking citation from one Newspaper interview or article. Just leave it as it is. You're clearly being a troll by insulting and leaving sarcastic remarks. Leave it alone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.107.234.101 (talk) 15:56, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"He's Irish born, raised, educated, lived most his life, parents still live there." your words from above. And we use citations not opinions on here so the TWO sources provided should be good. BTW you are trolling, you remind me of guy for some reason. Murry1975 (talk) 08:40, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, murry, I'll retract that: He's Irish raised, educated, lived most his life, parents still live there, Irish accent too, speaks the Irish language - which is an indigenous language, unlike German or English; it's not spoken anywhere else. If you speak Irish, you're from there. This has no impact on you at all, but it matters to others, so why not just leave it be? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gavquinn87 (talkcontribs) 09:14, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You are not doing things in the correct way. You are using your view, and understanding of how things work. At birth Fassbender, born in Germany to a German father, was German. His mother is from Northern Ireland, so he was also entitled to British and Irish citizenship, which he has since used in the Irish sense. I have used his own words and and those of others. He also speaks German, btw. Why don;'t ou leave it as it is sourced? Also Irish is spoken in Canada, in a gealtacht for your further learning on here. Stop using your own idieas on here. Lapsed Pacifist

[edit]

Hi. I'm curious why you're so insistent that Gob Lofa is a sockpuppet of Lapsed Pacifist. I had a look over LP's history again there, and I can see the similarity in the way that he called editors out on article talk pages and demanded answers from them, but apart from that I didn't think his talk page style was very like Gog Lofa's. Also, LP had very obvious political biases, such as never referring to Northern Ireland as Northern Ireland, which aren't apparent in Gob Lofa. There is currently a great barney going on at Talk:Flag of Northern Ireland, a page where LP was once heavily involved (see here), but Gob Lofa appears to be blissfully unaware of it. LP was also heavily involved at Talk:Shell to Sea, but Gob Lofa's edits to that article have been purely gnomish. It would be surprising if somebody as disruptive as LP was able to operate a sock account for years without more editors noticing it. Sometimes an editor who annoys you is just that; it isn't always a sock of somebody else. Scolaire (talk) 09:48, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Did you ever see The Usual Suspects? "The greatest trick the devil ever played..." I am just too busy at the moment to file the SPI. I pop on and off here too much at the moment. But Lapsed shares stuff in common with Gob, more than one would expect. Just compare you and I, who frequently overlap. There are more little ones, like Zoot Suit riots, odd ones that two completely different editors could never make, who would think of "White American" being "European-American" the exact same edit, in an obscure. There are plenty of others on those lists, if you have time feel free to read them. Murry1975 (talk) 20:21, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. Yes, you have obviously done your homework. Carry on, and I won't say anything again. Scolaire (talk) 06:48, 23 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sad to say that the IP beat me to it and with a lot less evidence than I had gathered, but the claim was concrete. Good days for the Ireland WikiProject and Wikipedia in general to have Lapsed Pacifist banished. Mabuska (talk) 13:35, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys. Sorry really busy at the moment. Will be back on when I can. IP, good work, but it leaves me wondering who you are. Until then. Enjoy the summer and don't eat too much BBQ 😉 Murry1975 (talk) 17:18, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
