Thank you very much for the very detailed and well-referenced article you created. It's nice too see a real new article every once in a while. (Have a look at Special:NewPagesFeed to get an idea what I mean]].

However, please do not remove tags without addressing the problems they describe.

  1. The page overlaps the subject of a pre-existing article: Outburst flood. Possibly your article is better named and has much information and many references the other does not; in any case, you should consider merging them.
  2. The language of the article is a little too specialist, please consider using easier-understood words and less specialist jargon (see Wikipedia:Make technical articles understandable). I'm not suggesting you write the article in Simple English; but, for example, there are several instances where using a simpler word would make the sentence clearer, despite the fact that the average reader knows what it means. (Take part of the opening sentence: "over various spatial and temporal scales" - surely there is a simpler way of saying that?)
  3. The tone of the article is reminiscent of an academic paper, and needs to be modified to have an encyclopedic tone. I am thinking in particular of the "Areas of future work" section.

Also, you will have noticed that I fixed the superscript on the page. See Help:Wiki markup#Subscripts and superscripts for how to do it; scroll up and down the page for similar tips.

Thank you very much and enjoy editing!

Replaceable fair use File:NAmericanGlacialLakePositions11.5ka.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:NAmericanGlacialLakePositions11.5ka.png. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. SuperMarioMan 04:21, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Please note that the contents of the above messages also apply to the other two images that you have uploaded (and which I have similarly tagged), File:FolgerTroughCHIRPLocations.png and File:Melo-5Core.png. Fair use defences are often weak in the case of maps and forms of graphs or charts – see WP:NFC#UUI, points 4 and 11. However, if you feel that the uploads are indeed "irreplaceable", do follow the instructions given above. SuperMarioMan 05:21, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sdmvd6, I have re-deleted the images you uploaded. Please do not re-upload them again, as they violate our very strict non-free content criteria policy. If you would like someone to create a freely licensed version for you, you can considering making a request at the Graphic Lab map workshop. — ξxplicit 01:17, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
