English names of Places in Infobox

[edit]

Hi, This is English Wikipedia. Please do not remove English names from Infobox. Your changes will be reverted if you keep on doing this. Also, you cannot wipe out history by removed the name Palghat from Palakkad article. Please try to make some positive contributions!--GDibyendu (talk) 17:14, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you care about Kerala? What do you know about our history? --Stopthenonsense (talk) 17:42, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For editing a Kerala related article one need not be a Keralite! Salih (talk) 18:00, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Stopthenonsense. You have new messages at Salih's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
For editing a Kerala related article one should have at least basic interest in the state! --Stopthenonsense (talk) 18:11, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please see this history and this. Salih (talk) 18:28, 8 June 2009 (UTC) No need to have any kind of interest in the subject while editing an article :) Salih (talk) 18:52, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was not talking about you. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 18:40, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added a welcome template which has links to standard guidelines. You should read these pages like everyone else while you make edits in Wikipedia. BTW, you should not make personal attacks on fellow wikipedians ("Why do you care about Kerala? What do you know about our history?"). You should not bother about what others know about history of Kerala or why do 'others' care about Kerala. Rather you should stick to the point of discussion. Rest of India may not know names like Palakkad and Allapuzzha, rather they might be familiar with names such as Palghat and Alleppey. If you remove these names, which were mainly in use in British India, people from other parts of the country will not be able to relate to the article. English Wikipedia is for people from any part of the world who can read English, and articles on the places in any particular region does not belong to people of that region (neither ownership, nor responsibility). Once you appreciate these things you'll find it easy to accommodate others' ideas and so will others do with your ideas. By removing these key names you are deteriorating these articles.--GDibyendu (talk) 19:21, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was reacting to your statement, that I would "wipe out" history by doing such simple corrections in my view. Let's make it better in future. Thanks for your input. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 19:25, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suman Ranganath

[edit]

Hello, Her real and genuine name is "Suman Ranganath". I personally know her family.(my dad is a film journalist, so i know most of the film personalities) and she is Kannadiga[1]. Kannadigas don't use "-an" at end of their name. IMDB is not the reliable source, it is just like wikipedia. . She didn't changed her name . She is Known as "Suman Ranganathan" in Tamilnadu. thats it. Mugur Chandra (talk) 13:09, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Even the times of india article mention her name as Ranganathan. Please cite SOURCES. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 13:30, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Timeosindia article mention her as "Ranganath" see the source properly. Mugur Chandra (talk) 13:34, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Her interview. [2]. Mugur Chandra (talk) 13:35, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
She doesn't say Ranganath. This is a msn interpretation. I warn you, that this is completely counterproductive. This is a real person, and it should be handled with very much care. Use a source, where Suman herself says, that her name is Ranganath, not Ranganathan. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 13:37, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please cite source which says "Suman Ranganathan" is her real name. She is Kannadiga(gowdthi). Kannadigas don't use "-an" at end of their name. atleast it has some sense. OK. now stop moving the pages. Mugur Chandra (talk) 13:39, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm myself South Indian, and I believe, there are many Kannadigas with the -an ending. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 13:40, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
there may be some Kannadiga who use "-an" at end of their names. But she is Gowdthi, but they don't. Mugur Chandra (talk) 13:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Original research is not allowed in wikipedia. You need sources for your claim. Until then, it should be named as ranganathan. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 13:44, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't you source. wikipedia articles should not harm real person, she never said "Ranganathan" as her real name. Mugur Chandra (talk) 13:48, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't move the page. it is my humble request. In tamilnadu "ranganathan" is a very common surname( used by iyengers i think), when she moved to tamilnadu ,industry credited her surname as "Ranganthan" , so people called like that, but it was not her real name. "Ranganath" is her dad name. Mugur Chandra (talk) 14:01, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have you made any progress in seeking dispute resolution/outside input for this article? rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 13:34, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, I think, the problem will be solved by time. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 13:36, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stopthenonsense,

I am new to wikipedia - and my sister told me she added her website to a page on wikipedia - about San Fermin, she said I should add a link to my website on a wiki about malayalam. Have I broken the rules - why did you remove my link. Do I need to write an article before I can have a link to my website. I think users looking at a malayalam wiki may benefit if they are interested in Beginner Malayalam.

Thanks very much for help/advice —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lmalayalam (talkcontribs) 15:39, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Aryabhata's name is spelled out in Sanskrit since that is the language of his works, and there is no source attesting any association with Malayalam or any other language. If you disagree and have alternate reliable sources, please discuss them on the talk page instead of edit-warring. Abecedare (talk) 18:56, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sanskrit was already a dead language at his time. So his mother tongue couldn't be Sanskrit. No place for it in the article. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 01:52, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to discuss this novel hypothesis of yours on the article talk page, as long as you have reliable sources to support your contention. Abecedare (talk) 04:09, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
