Serbia - GAN

[edit]

Hello Tourbillon, I would like to ask for your help regarding Serbia's (I hope near) future GA nomination.

What is not done properly, what could be improved and all in all do you think that there are arguments in favour of the nomination?

Thank you, Mm.srb (talk) 15:35, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, well I have to go through it first. But at a first glance it looks pretty good - decent size, not overloaded with pictures, much of the content is sourced and there don't seem to be any content disputes. I'll try to have a better look this evening or over the weekend. - ☣Tourbillon A ? 15:52, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks bratko, looking forward to hearing from you. Mm.srb (talk) 22:56, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Mm.srb: I made a detailed read of the article, which is as far as I can go given my limited time right now. Overall it's not bad. Basically three things should be taken care of before approaching a GAN:
  • Prose;
  • Sources;
  • Image licensing.
The prose is alright, but needs improvement. Some subsections would need a rewrite, for example Slavic settlement and state formation (very choppy), Ottoman and Habsburg rule (the first paragraph is almost word-for-word identical to the similar subsection in the Bulgaria article), and the entire Demographics (somewhat choppy) and Economy (a bit bloated) sections.
Another suggestion I'd make is to split the Balkan Wars and WWI into a separate subsection, then make an entire subsection on Yugoslavia as both a kingdom and then a socialist state, and finally a subsection on the breakup of Yugoslavia coupled with modern history. Logically, it would make more sense - Yugoslavia pre- and post-WWII is still the same state despite the changes in government and territory, whereas contemporary Serbian history involves unresolved issues stemming from the collapse of Yugoslavia.
I could make some edits in the structure (particularly History and Economy) without introducing radical changes to content. It should improve the flow and make the article more compact without trimming valuable details already present. Not sure if it will be tonight, though. - ☣Tourbillon A ? 17:57, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I had the same impressions as you did. It means very much to me to hear it from an editor who can look at the article from another, perhaps more objective position. Thank you for your time. I would be very glad if you should decide to work on the problematic parts and of course several editors from WikiProject Serbia and I would end a hand. The recategorization idea sounds great. Mm.srb (talk) 19:13, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Will be happy to help out. Will do some edits tomorrow most likely. - ☣Tourbillon A ? 20:54, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If I might make some observations, there are numerous short paragraphs of only one or two sentences, which should be fixed per WP:LAYOUT. There are also a few short subsections, which could be an impediment to flow (although the MOS treats this as a minor issue). Some images are hardcoded in size without clear significant reason. There are a number places sources are lacking, most prominently throughout the Culture section. Not part of WP:GAC but worth considering going forward, the article prose is 90kB (well above the ~50kB rule of thumb in WP:SIZE), I see a few image sandwiching occurrences throughout the article, and the CoA of Belgrade should be removed from the infobox per WP:MOSICON. Spotted those too. Will stay out of source issues for now, but the rest will be edited. - ☣Tourbillon A ? 06:38, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2020 coronavirus outbreak in Europe, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Patient zero (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Requesting some article expansion help

[edit]

Greetings,

We are working on a Draft:Avret Esir Pazarları about Ottoman times female slavery with a special focus on the state of non-elite common women slavery in those times.

We are looking for help in further update of the article draft with references about Ottoman time female slavery and slave markets from all Black sea coastal Countries and cities there of that includes Bulgaria and including it's cities like Ahtopol(Ahtenbolu), Burgas, Varna.

Please do have a look at Draft:Avret Esir Pazarları and help expand the draft with (Bulgarian) refs if you find topic interested in.

Thanks and warm regards
