Welcome

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your recent contributions seem to be advertising or for promotional purposes. Wikipedia does not allow advertising. For more information on this, see:

If you still have questions, there is a new contributor's help page, or you can write {{helpme}} below this message along with a question and someone will be along to answer it shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia:

I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! Jesanj (talk) 15:26, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen (Pathologysbumc) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Hi Stony Brook,
The usual thing to do is to create a new account. The name can be just about anything, just not one that suggests that it belongs to your department instead of just to you.
You might also like to read this page for people associated with medical groups, which has some information and links to pages about choosing usernames.
Finally, I invite you to join WP:WikiProject Medicine, a group of volunteer editors who are improving medicine-related articles on Wikipedia. One of our goals is for every person at a medical school to learn that Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that anyone can edit—which means patients, medical students, and even their instructors are welcome to improve our articles. What we sometimes call "the doctors' mess" is a good place to ask questions and get help. By the way, if your school has a particular interest, we might even be able to set you up with an introductory training session for people who would like to learn more about editing Wikipedia. This page has some information about one school-oriented program. WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:31, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. ElKevbo (talk) 15:32, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
