Notification

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

ITN recognition for George Elder (baseball)

[edit]

On 14 July 2022, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article George Elder (baseball), which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. —Bagumba (talk) 08:17, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mac Jones, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Joker. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:15, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Boogeymen (American football) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Boogeymen (American football), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Smile emoji Hi WimePocy! Thank you for your edits to Draft:Nikolas Cruz. It looks like you've copied or moved text from Stoneman Douglas High School shooting into that page, and while you are welcome to re-use the content, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. If you've copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thanks! DanCherek (talk) 23:29, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A question about editing/deletion

[edit]

Hi WimePocy, I have a question about editing vs. speedy deletion. Yesterday, I saw that the new Sight & Sound Poll for 2022 was out. I saw that WP had an article for 2012 that contained the lists released that year. So I wrote some code to assemble the 2022 list information and parse it into the same WP list format used in the 2012 page, added some commentary on the new number 1s and some cites, and posted the new article.

Since then, that article has been speedy deleted, and the 2012 article edited to remove the lists. I'm not questioning the issue of copyright in lists -- that's a question for lawyers, I'm not one, and I assume it's already been resolved. My question is why the 2022 article deserved speedy deletion when:

  1. It contained (give or take) the same additional information as the 2012 article, so it could have been similarly trimmed.
  2. The 2012 article has, since its creation in 2012, contained a large portion of the lists.

If the 2012 article has existed for ten years with a copyright violation, how can the 2022 article require such a rush to delete? Wouldn't it have made more sense to simply delete the lists, point out why, and encourage enhancement of the article? Geoff Canyon (talk) 16:40, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Gcanyon I'm gonna be completely honest with you: I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm assuming you're talking to me because I closed the ITN blurb, but I'm not involved with this conflict, so I'm not really the person to talk to. I'm sorry about that. If you need any other help with WP, for anything, I'm here and I can try to help you. Cheers. WimePocy 04:14, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks -- the overlap of the ITN and speedy deletion discussion mixed me up about who was responsible for what (especially since I was completely unfamiliar with ITN). I'll find someone else to ask, thanks. Geoff Canyon (talk) 19:18, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

[edit]

I completely missed your vote vis a vis your description, my bad.

Unhappy yet not surprised it got pulled and closed before debate to re-post, but at least I suppose this gives receipts for when the same people opposing LeBron inevitably nominate some soccer or cricket record that receives overwhelming support. The Kip (talk) 21:04, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@The Kip: All good! We’re all friends here, hopefully. :]

Anywho, yeah, not too too happy it got pulled. The anti-USA bias there is pretty insane (re: Shane Warne’s death taking up the front page for how long? 4 weeks maybe?). And yeah, I’ve never called soccer football, personally. However, your misunderstanding is totally okay! :] Cheers. WimePocy 22:31, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reggie Corbin moved to draftspace

If this was the first article that you created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

The page Draft:Black fashion has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seemed to be unambiguous advertising which only promoted a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to have been fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, or you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
