2024 local election

[edit]

@RyanW1995: we had a discussion on my talk page about the local election being held in February for the regional and local legislatures, and in November for the mayors and governors. But there's been multiple people here editing to remove the link about the local election being held in February. Was it changed? I'm only translating sources, and I'm beginning to wonder if I may be wrong considering how many different users are making the changes. Cordially. Aréat (talk) 22:59, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Aréat: Remember the 2024 Indonesian general election article? Well, the election for the provincial and municipal legislatures was conducted on the same day as the presidential election and the election for the national legislature. On 14 February 2024, voters in the polling stations received five ballot papers (pictured here). The grey ballot paper is for the presidential election, the yellow one is for the People's Representative Council/House of Representatives (the lower house, similar to the French National Assembly), the red one is for the Regional Representative Council/Senate (the upper house, similar to the French Senate), the blue one is for the provincial legislature, and the green one is for the municipal (city/regency) legislature. Jakarta (the capital of Indonesia) only has four ballot papers, because it does not have municipal legislatures. So, if you ask whether there was a local election in February, then the answer will be "technically yes", but it was subsumed into the national general election, as it has always been even before the fall of Suharto's New Order. Thanks. There was indeed local elections in February, then. So a link to it should be maintained on the template, even if the linked page isn't named local elections, as it often happen on such templates. --Aréat (talk) 13:33, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aréat: I don't know whether the "February local election" could be considered as a "local election". Even though the regional legislatures were elected in February, Indonesian people generally don't consider these elections as a "local election". Instead, they were treated as part of the 2024 general election. In Indonesia, the term "local election" generally refers to the gubernatorial/mayoral elections, i.e. the elections of provincial governors and city mayors. If they did happen at a local level, they should be on the template. The parliamentary election also was held as part of the general election, and it's on the template. Removing it make it falsely look like none were held.--Aréat (talk) 12:22, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
