More/Different info for season template?

[edit]

Seems like the consensus All-American teams and winners of the various Player/Coach of the Year awards should be listed in the yearly wrap-up so you can get all the most relevant info at a glance. I would also recommend adding the preseason Coaches poll and either add the final polls or (better yet) show all the weekly polls for the entire season. Also, in the "conference winners and tournaments" section, it seems like a waste of space to have the tournament venue and city on separate lines. It would be more useful to add the conference POY and/or tournament MVP to the table instead. Last, I would recommend adding a some kind of "Top stories" section to cover the big headlines of the season, such as Players or coaches breaking records (like Tyler Hansbrough this year) or things like the OK State plane crash several years back. I'm happy to take a crack at this for these, but wanted to put it out there first since there would be "precedence" issues, Rikster2 (talk) 22:05, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have started editing this to make it a record of the season - added season headlines, improved (I hope) the conference round ups, added awards and added the Coaches pre-season poll, etc. I also switched out the bid information for the 3 post-season tourneys and pasted in the semi- and final brackets for the NCAA and NIT and greatly reduced the real estate given to the CBI (doesn't warrant a lot of detail IMO). The idea is this page gives you the "at a glance while the tourney pages give all the detail. I added these sections as separate edits in case someone wants to revert one but keep another. At some point others need to weigh in on this format & if it should be used going forward. Rikster2 (talk) 20:49, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regular season winners

[edit]

Multiple leagues have two divisions and so in the table I've been putting, for example in the Southern, both the North and South division winners. However, obviously one team will get the overall number 1 seed in the conference tournament (Davidson in this case has a 20-0 record and won the South Division, while App State and Chattanooga share the North Division with 13-7 records). Should we just list this team? The way I figure it, most of the conference tournaments are going to eventually have articles and those number one seeds will be listed there so we can list both (or all three) winners in this table. What are everyone's thoughts? Phydend (talk) 15:52, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Western Athletic Conference regular season winner is incorrect. Boise State clinched at least a tie before anybody else did, but Utah State beat them after that, clinching the #1 seed. It was actually a four-way tie for first place, but Utah State wins the tiebreaker and the #1 seed, so they should be listed over Boise State. I'll change it. Also, why is the WAC the only conference without a tournament link? Weird.

I added in the three other teams then to the WAC since they all won a share, but maybe there is a better way to do this (I don't think it looks terrible, but the table is crowded). Also I created the WAC tournament page, so that should be all of the tournaments for this year. They definitely need to be expanded, but it's nice to have all of them at least. Exhibition games

[edit]

Exhibition losses should not be listed. Fbdave (talk) 23:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I wasn't thinking when I added the MSU game. Phydend (talk) 23:22, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Upset section

[edit]

I think the upset section could use what the ranking of the team being upset at the time was. (And if it wasn't nationaly ranked at the time, probably isn't noteworthy enough to be included here.) Jon (talk) 00:39, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's probably a good idea. Most of them are referenced so it should have the rankings in the refs if someone wants to do this. I'll get to it later if no one else does. Phydend (talk) 16:16, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A number of the entries in the section have references calling them upsets, so I don't believe it is OR, however, I wouldn't be opposed to getting rid of the section. The whole article needs expanding with more prose and less lists and tables anyway, but whatever everyone else thinks I'd go along with. Phydend (talk) 00:12, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
