[edit]

""One" was initially considered as a comeback record for Sheeran whose last proper single from a studio album dated back in November 2012. Resulting from a "debated" decision and Sheeran's consulting with few people from the industry, the R&B-pop "Sing" was instead released as the lead single."

Until a proper source is found. --Efe (talk) 18:16, 2 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The song peaked at number 18, two days after it went on sale. The song peaked almost two weeks after the its release on iTunes. --Efe (talk) 06:33, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Efe, I'm Cartoon network freak, and this is my GA review for your article. As you can see, I've split the article up into sections that mimic the articles layout, for ease. Any green text indicates I'm quoting from the article.

Lead

[edit]

*for his second studio album, x. -> for his second studio album x (2014).

*Sheeran wrote for the last time about his ex-girlfriend who inspired all the romantic compositions off his debut album, +. -> The track marks the last occasion, where Sheeran wrote aboute his ex-girlfriend. She was also a big inspiration for Sheeran's debut record + (2011).

*The minimalist song, produced by frequent collaborator Jake Gosling, derives its music from acoustic guitar. -> A minimalist song, "One" was produced by Sheeran's long-time collaborator Jake Gosling, who derived its music from acoustic guitar.

    • "Jake Gosling, who derived its music" might suggest that he initially created the sound for the song, which is not because Sheeran composed it with a guitar probably long before he recorded the song with Gosling. --Efe (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

*its being guitar-driven -> its guitar-driven sound

*An official video, which was shot in an empty Wembley Stadium and rendered in black and white, preceded the song's release on 14 May 2014. -> The official video of "One" was shot in an empty Wembley Stadium and preceded the song's release on 14 May 2014.

  • Being the first promotional single from x, the release was meant to balance "Sing", the R&B-pop lead single that was feared would alienate Sheeran's fan base. -> The track is the first promotional single from x, and was meant to ballance "Sing", the album's lead single, which would aliente Sheeran's fan base.
    • Adopted the part before the first comma. The part "the album's lead single, which would aliente Sheeran's fan base" is rather confusing. "Sing" was feared would alienate Sheeran's fanbase, not that it was intended to alienate them. --Efe (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Background and release

[edit]
  • Inside his dressing room while on a tour in Perth, Australia,[2] he composed the song on a guitar made of a whiskey barrel.[3] -> While he was on tour in Perth, Australia, he composed the song on a guitar made of a whiskey barrel inside his dressing room.
    • I have transferred "while on tour in Perth, Australia" to the first sentence. The clause "he composed the song on a guitar made of a whiskey barrel inside his dressing room" may suggest that the guitar was already inside the dressing when Sheeran found it and used it when he composed the song. While it may be true, we don't have a source saying that specifically. --Efe (talk) 14:13, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • off of -> featured on
  • You should place the image of the recording studios atop the section
  • while the rest are about -> while the rest is about
  • "One" was released on 16 May 2014 as the first promotional single from x, available as an "instant grat" download on iTunes when the album is pre-ordered. -> "One" was released on 16 May 2014 as the first promotional single from x. It was already available as an "instant grat" download on iTunes while the album was pre-ordered.
  • The release was meant to counterbalance "Sing", the R&B-pop lead single that was intended to create hype but was feared would alienate his fan base. -> The release of the song ws meant to counterballance "Sing", the album's lead single, which was intended to alienate Sheeran's fan base.
  • official video was premiered -> official video premiered
  • The video's release on 2 May 2014 needs a citation.

Commercial and critical reception

[edit]
@Efe: Reduce it into one paragraph, as the two different paragraphs are focused on the same subject: reviewers and reviews Cartoon network freak Cartoon network freak 18:24, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Credits and personnel

[edit]
  • Credits adapted from x album liner notes: -> Credits are adapted fromthe liner notes of x.
@Efe: Left out the ":" after x. Cartoon network freak Cartoon network freak 18:24, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This is probably stylistic differences. We can probably use either:
  • "Credits adapted from the liner notes of x:", incomplete sentence but with the colon to introduce the list.
  • "Credits are adapted from the liner notes of x." with "are" and "period" since it now becomes a complete sentence. --Efe (talk) 19:33, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fine-tuning comment

  • Status: On-hold for seven days.

A lot of work for you in the 7 days for you, but I give you a chance. If you have any questions, feel free to ak me on my talk page. Cartoon network freak (talk) 05:08, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello Cartoon network freak. Thank you for taking the time to review the nominee article. Honestly, I'm still in a bind. I realized now it was unwise nominating another article while the previous isn't closed yet. I have already read all the comments, and have ideas on how to properly address them. But as much as I want to, I have to first attend to the other one. If I fail to resolve all issues above, and further issues which this review would bring out, may I request in advance that this be put on hold for another week? Thank you. --Efe (talk) 11:52, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There's not much work to be done from these comments. Efe could probably do them in 5-10 minutes. Cartoon network freak would you mind if I leave some additional comments? I see some glaring issues which need resolving.  — Calvin999 08:48, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded, I'll await Calvin's comments, he'll probably catch everything I'm seeing. Azealia911 talk 10:02, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Calvin999 and Azealia911. Thank you for participating in the review. If you please read this ongoing review, I'm still dealing with my understanding how to properly format stuffs based on the guidelines in MOS. The review is about to end, and any consensus there would certainly affect this article. May I request that comments pertaining to compliance on MOS be withheld. Comments other than MOS (such as prose and general content) are most welcome. Thank you. --Efe (talk) 11:56, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Efe, as you have no time and Azealia911 and Calvin999 had to list post-listing comments, I have decided to restore the "GA nominee" on the article's talk page. When you three are ready with your edits, comments (.....), then you can contact me for listig "One" as a GA, as I did begin this review. Good luck and all the best! Cartoon network freak (talk) 14:06, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Cartoon network freak. I don't know if that's in line with the GA process (the re-tagging). Anyway, I'll look into the review immediately after the closing of my earlier nominee. Thanks. --Efe (talk) 14:10, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is in line. I have decided to retract my offer of a second opinion because I don't think it is wanted nor would it be valued. I entrust Azealia911 to give a second opinion, and he is a good reviewer.  — Calvin999 10:42, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou for the compliment Calvin. Azealia911 talk
  • The external music video in the infobox looks somewhat out of place, this is largely due to the yellow colour contradicting the pale scheme. I'd advice removing it from the infobox and placing it in a newly-formed 'External links' section.

I actually only had one comment, and it was more of a suggestion. Apologies if you were to believe I had multiple comments! Good luck with the nomination. Azealia911 talk 18:18, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I can see lots of things that need changing, but I don't really feel like helping someone who reports me to ANI with false accusations and creates an edit war on my own user talk and won't even apologise for it.  — Calvin999 09:38, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Efe: I found more little errors on the page that need changing. I also set the article on hold for seven days.

Infobox

[edit]

"Sticky Studios, Windlesham, Surrey, England" -> Sticky Studios
(Windlesham, Surrey, England)

Background and release

[edit]
  • "when the album is pre-ordered" -> when the album was pre-ordered
  • "Sheeran had performed" -> Sheeran performed
  • "which ran from 2014 to 2015." needs citation
  • I had the same problem with "Photograph" on its GAN review. However, the information is non-controversial and readers may verify on the tour page itself. Nevertheless, I will surely add a citation when I find one. But I hope this is not a major issue for the article to be passed? --Efe (talk) 14:00, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
