Notability

[edit]

I'm coming at this from a Wine Project perspective on the notability thing. As far as the Wine Project goes, we're more interested in the wine than the people, but people are good if they're interesting enough. So we'd definitely want an article on Lehmann the wine company, in fact it would probably count as a Mid Importance to us rather than Low, and would look to discuss Lehmann the man as part of the winery article in the first instance. But a biographic splinter article would be fine -the winery is one of the most notable in Australia and it's very much his creation. So if this article does fail the tests of the Biography gods, the Wine Project would rather it be renamed Peter Lehmann Wines rather than be deleted altogether - there's already a redirect to that effect linking from the Barossa winery list. Good comment. Lehmann wines are very well known here in Ontario, Canada. Slowmover 18:59, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely agrees with the notability! Not just does his wine seem to be sold everywhere (you can find several of them in Sweden where I live), he's probably the best known name (and credited as a quality pioneer) from the district Barossa, which in turn is probably the best known place for Australian Shiraz. For example, he was interviewed on Jancis Robinson's Wine Course (probably the best-selling wine course on DVD). I would guess that if you would select the two most internationally well-known persons that have been working in the Australian wine business, it would be Max Schubert (creator of Grange) and Peter Lehmann. If I remeber correctly he was the one that 'saved' barossa, when the big companies dropped the price of grapes and Lehman decided to buy and keep the wine industy alive (but need references for this), think it should be part of this page, definitly notably even by wiki standards. --Stefan talk 01:05, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is discussed in the references I added, but they are not independent of him. --Bduke 01:43, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
