Expanding the article

[edit]

The article could possibly be expanded from Lloyd's Register. Looking at entry #84245, is this the ship? That gives date of completion, dimension, propulsion, Code Letters, owner & operater and much more. Mjroots (talk) 10:45, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, that's a later ship unfortunately. Benea (talk) 15:15, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shinyo Maru (1911-1936)

[edit]

The ship mentioned by Roots held the title Shinyo Maru for a quarter-century; the ancient re-named hell ship followed, after 5 years, to hold the name for only 3 years. The liner had a place in Pacific maritime history - but not military history - in its own right and does, with its sister-ships and TKK and NYK lines, merit an entry. Ironically, it also has a place in US (West Coast) history and in Japanese-American relations.

I have written the entry to cause minimal disturbance to the existing article and give a header-paragraph that might serve as disambiguation if anyone thought the entries merited separate articles, but I do not think this ship can be pretended never to have existed and the assertion that 'the Shinyo Maru was a hellship' is therefore at least 50% incorrect.
