Plant-based

[edit]

CFCF, I don't feel strongly about this change, but "plant-based," as noted in the Plant-based diet article, may also be defined as including some meat-eating. No need to ping me if you reply. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 20:21, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

While that may technically be correct, it is an ill-defined neologism and I find it likely to be misinterpreted due to its current usage. I don't feel very strongly for this either, but given the choice I would stick to more established terminology that is less likely to confuse. The term has even been used on this page a little lower down, where a distinction between "plant-based" and "semi-vegeterianism" is made — which is even more confusing. CFCF, I don't think that use of "centered around plant foods" is best. Comes across as vague to me. You stated "more established terminology," but is that the more established terminology? The "plant-based" link can explain things to readers when they visit the article on that topic, and we can do a better job of explaining the matter lower in this article. But I understand your point that readers are very likely to think of "plant-based" as excluding any meat-eating. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 19:15, 29 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vegganism

[edit]

In recent years, there have been some "semi-vegan" diets. No doubt described as an oxymoron. "Vegannism" or "Veggans" are vegans who eat eggs. This is not really a vegan diet, it a semi-vegetarian diet.

News sources: Can you be a vegan and eat eggs?, Being a little bit vegan is completely oxymoronic, Vegganism: Why some vegans eat eggs, Being a Vegan Who Eats Eggs Is a Thing Now, Why the Veggan Diet Is Pretty Disrespectful, So ‘veggan’ is a thing; a vegan who eats eggs. But what’s the point?, What is vegganism and will it be the next foodie trend?, The Rise of Vegganism: A New Plant-Based Diet with Eggs, Rise of the Veggan: Why Some Vegans Still Choose to Eat Eggs, Why some vegans now eat eggs – the rise of the vegan, Vegganism Adds the Egg, and Nutrients, to Vegan Plates, Is There a Benefit to Going “Veggan”?, Vegans Are Embracing a New Kind of Diet Called ‘Vegganism’, The New Way of Eating Vegan (And Why It's Pissing People Off, PR boost for eggs with rise of the ‘veggan’. etc. This reference describes "veggans" as "ovo-vegans".

Is it worth a mention? Psychologist Guy (talk) 15:00, 30 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That's a different topic since those people are eating eggs, not meat. They are vegetarians who eat eggs and are calling themselves vegan. Veganism is an aspect of vegetarianism, but, as we know, veganism is considered the stricter variety of vegetarianism because vegans don't eat any animal products, with the exception of the debate regarding honey. And, of course, outside of the diet, there's the silk and leather debate. The best place to include the material you've pointed to is the "Eggs and dairy products" section of the Veganism article. But given its contentious nature and that it may be considered WP:Undue, it's something you should propose on that article's talk page first (meaning before attempting to add that material). Are we sure pescetarianism is an instance of flexitarianism?

[edit]

I believe this article should be split like on most other Wikipedias (e. g. Semivegetarianismo [es] Flexitarianismo [es]), or at least pescetarianism and pollotarianism removed.

  • Flexitarians don't exclude certain foods entirely The Flexitarian Diet is a style of eating that encourages mostly plant-based foods while allowing meat and other animal products in moderation (Healthline) (the same definition in ref 1 I our article)
  • Pescetarians and pollotarians do, e. g. they don't eat mammals.

I can't seem to find any refs that would lump them together like we do, including in the reflist of this article? ‎⠀Trimton⠀‎‎ 23:45, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
