Adding a reliable source around Shelley's treatment on The Shining set

[edit]

There was a question of citing an unreliable source in the 1980s section when describing Shelley's treatment on The Shining set by its director. I found a fairly reliable source that should replace the current Express citation. It is here: https://www.today.com/popculture/movies/shelley-duvall-the-shining-rcna161391 Zxy2 (talk) 12:03, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article previously stated that Duvall's performance of Wendy Torrance was criticized for demeaning the character, but this was removed on June 5. It's the plain truth, and easily verified as such. Furthermore, the coverage this week has reiterated that it was Duvall's artistic choice to portray Wendy as a battered wife, which she believed offered a wider emotional range. Personally, I will add that it was a choice made in the time of second-wave feminism and its campaigns to bring attention and relief to victims of domestic violence. There's not a little irony in calling a portrayal of a woman "misogynistic" because she doesn't remain calm and composed while her husband menaces her with an axe. The Golden Raspberry Awards is a comedy event, and its style of "comedy" is sometimes embarrassing. It should not be relied on over journalism as a source for criticism of the film. 2601:642:4600:D3B0:F957:2BB0:729:9CD1 (talk) 15:43, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox image

[edit]

Since Shelley has died and the infobox image is constantly being changed, let’s go ahead and vote on an image. I’ve pulled all the images from Wikimedia Commons that are probably qualified, unless anybody has any other suggestions.
