Because the school is located on what used to be the Nike Missle Silo, the VHHS students nearly became the Rockets. as a member of the first graduating class, and a student who voted tayler hicks for the next american idol , i remeber 'rockets' as a choice. avengers, huskies, and hurricanes are not as good. the avenger was an avenger. fighter plane. the poll also asked for who will win the super bowl, the eagles or raiders?, red and gold, purple and another color were two other choices that didn't win. Fair use rationale for Image:VHHS crest.jpg

[edit]

Image:VHHS crest.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

NPOV

[edit]

While persuing this article for no particular reason, I found many statements to not be from a NPOV. Please refer to WP:NPOV. By pure assumption, it seems like much of this article was written by current or former students of VHHS. Now, while I am sure that VHHS is a great school, however, from an encyclopaedic standpoint just the facts are needed and the facts will speak for themselves. I have a few examples to get started (this is not an all inclusive list just a get going list so that editors of this article get a good idea):

  • In the 2007 ICTM State Math Competiton, VHHS took home third place. Its freshmen team and junior team took home 2nd place for each of their written competitions. VHHS even had 1st place Freshmen individual in the State, Jake Dinkel. Jake edged out two Walter Payton freshmen by one question to take the top honors and prevented Walter Payton from sweeping the 1st place individuals in all grade levels. In addition to the team's excellent performance overall, Kaz Gunning's extremely loud cheering motivated the relay team to a clutch victory and a 1st place finish. His relay team, along with the Calculator Team, Jake Dinkel, and all the other hard working individuals contributed to the 3rd place finish!

This example from the "Math Team" section basically reads like a newspaper article. Please see WP:MOS for more help on that.

  • FBLA and DECA

Please spell out what these mean as the average user may not know

  • Vernon Hills High School has always had a strong and professional theatre program. The 2000-2001 season was the first for VHHS. Pacific Overtures was a shared musical with LHS, the sister school of VHHS. Other musicals would also be shared with LHS; for example, "Les Mis" in 2002.

This sub-section (under the "theater" header) uses the initials LHS referring to a different high school (I assume). When using intitials for something, please spell it out first so the user will know what you are talking about.

There are a few more, but I hope the idea is gotten. Also, an infobox could be used to clean up the section on the Theater Club shows as well. This could be a great article if a few minor points are cleaned up. Unfortunatly I do not know a thing about the topic so the only thing I can contribute is grammer and clean-up help (I can also create the wikibox if you need help with it). I hope these comments can help an important article become better! Let me know if you need any help. Good Luck! Josborne2382 03:03, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have been doing some extensive work on the entire article over the last few days and I believe it is now sufficiently cleaned up. The Math Team section is definitely more encyclopedic, and overall I believe the article presents a more neutral point of view. I have been doing a lot of re-wording, fixing citations, verifying claims, updating, and more. There is obviously still a lot to be done on the page, but I definitely feel the NPOV issue has been taken care of, and I would like to go ahead and remove the tag.
